warning for southern baltimore county and baltimore city itself. the heat index value has reached 110 dangerous heat. the orange shaded counties nothing sneeze about and a heat advisory in effect. the heat warning including the city of baltimore. right now the air temperature downtown is at a staggering 101 degrees. not that hot at the air but still in the upper 90s. you see what happens when you add the humidity almost statewide except sport high country to the west. we have heat index values pushing into the mid to low 100 teens. it's a cool radar but a hot evening. we'll talk about the peak of the heat, which is yet to come. that's straight ahead. day six and lot of you are without power. 44,000 people across the state are powerless. baltimore county has close to 20,000 outages. baltimore city has more than 10,000. anne arundel county more than

4,000 in the dark. howard just under 6,000. if your power is out call 877-778-2222. if someone told you late june a thunderstorm would knock out your power for almost a week you'd say never. make it six days. when the time stopped. roosevelt leftwich with the story that just won't go away -- people without power. rosie. >> reporter: folks on lake avenue are not happy. six days without power, no ac. you got the tree from the yard here, fell over, broke the poll. it's the same story repeated throughout the country. everybody is miserable. people have come out to talk to us. they want to give us a piece of their mind and bge appeals of their mind. they haven't seen anyone at all. let's put it this way. the misery index is very high. six days without power.

it's like watching the same episode of gilligan's island over and over again, and the one you don't like. the same story. however, this time it's in french. these guys are in quebec in the middle of woodlawn trying to restore the power. for the folks they are just glad the crews are in their area. others are just waiting. they are done. complaining doesn't help but it does make you feel better. >> whenever we have major snow storms we always go out. because we always go out we're last served. >> reporter: matt is staying at his elderly brother's home while they're at his brothers. communications with the utility have been frustrating. >> we keep calling and it changes almost every call. you wait a few hours, well now it's 6:30 tomorrow night. there was a bge person with a

clipboard and pen walking around and i talked to them two days ago. oh, it will be less than a day and we haven't seen a truck. >> reporter: bge said that's because their trucks are everywhere. utilities are well over 90% complete and are at a point they have to get to small outages. a group of five to 10 houses here and there. they're erring on the side of caution because they don't want to make promises that circumstances won't allow them to keep. they welcome the chance to address issues after the storm. >> they should contact us after the restoration. we'll be happy to look into the reliability. often times we find a gap between what customers feel they have and what the truth is in terms of the facts, but reality is we would be happy to sit down

with customers and explain to them what the issue may or may not be. >> take a look. what would you do with that? look at that mess. where would you begin, removing the trees, fixing the polls. there's scores of home that just don't have any power. like i said, it's just a big job. this scene right here is repeated hundreds of times through baltimore county, anne arundel county, all over our area. this is what we're dealing with. you're dealing with a lot of folks after six days they would like to see something happen. >> are they home, the one went to his parents' house. >> reporter: a lot of people are still struggling out, trying to find a way to catch a breeze, stay cool. i'll give you an example. a lot of people have been going to book stores f you go to any

barnes & noble, that's where people are going to try to beat the heat. they're going to the library to beat the heat. a lot of folks when night falls they are hoping to catch a breeze to stay in their home but six days it is. roosevelt leftwich. let's go to nearby rogers. there are some streets in baltimore county that have power while some homes across the street are still in the dark. >> a lot of people in the neighborhood are staying elsewhere. our one neighbor they got the generator. they're gone. the fans weren't working. his wife was having headaches. she's leaving. >> look at this your power all the computers they drag you into

the middle ages. a duracell truck stopped by this power you up. it's hope daily from 8:00 to 8:00. you're going to find the truck parked at the lowe's parking lot in laurel. with more than 90% of the power restored, the maryland public service commission will grade wow well they did. they monitor the performance. the chairman strongly urges those still without power to stay cool, stay in contact with the electric provide are and file complaints when necessary. >> the statewide impact on our electric system was greater than what hurricane irene was. what we'll do when we unpack this is have the opportunity to deliver in an appropriate way to

single car accident on charles street. the car was coming southbound on charles, hit the medium strip went airborne and rommed down a ravine. had to use the jaws of life to pull the driver. the only person in the car went to an awaiting ambulance and was taken to a nearby hospital. abc2 news was first on the scene as a two alarm fire inside the old ambassador theater on liberty avenue. it sits next to a gas staismghts some were worried the fire might spread, but firefighters were able to prevent that. the ambassador theater hasn't been used to show movies since, what, back in the '60s but served the past couple of years as a church. >> the 4th of july rarely come in maryland. coming up a deadly scene that played out as people tried to enjoy the fourth. plus a lifeguard fired after

new tonight, a texas high school principal is charged with using her daughter to plant a camera inside a girl's locker room, not to record the girl's changing but to record the girl's basketball speech during a halftime speech. the principal got complaints that she yelled too much. she maintains no laws were broken. her daughter was in the locker room while the camera was rolling. >> i don't understand why somebody would go to such

abc2news.com/facebook. all right. very hot conditions, to say the very least. we have an excessive heat warning, warning, not an advisory for baltimore county, the entire city and looking at a widespread advisory. i'll have to give the national weather service a call. i'm not sure why carroll and frederick would not be included. the heat index value is as high there as anywhere. rehoboth beach, dundalk it was a hot steamy scenario here with hazy conditions. also bad air quality. sometimes we get that type of heat. that makes higher ozone levels. so outdoor exercise, ill advised because of the air quality.

97 at the airport after topping out close to 100. heat index values 105 in baltimore, 105 in east. 102 in dulles. the dew point numbers climbing. baltimore getting that enhanced warning because the heat index, heat plus humidity, reaching over 110. the actual air temperatures are excessive in their own right, 101 at the maryland science center. 91 at the naval academy. temperatures reaching into the mid-90s. is there a breeze? yes. it's a hot breeze. there's no relief. it does stir the air a little bit. we'll take whatever we can get. clear skies over central maryland. things are stable here. however, there are scattered

storms farther to the north. you can see those scattered storms across really southern and southwestern pennsylvania. will some of this isolated activity slide into baltimore later tonight? it's possible. these are slow moving storms. for now we continue to stay clear in central maryland. more active weather has been pushing south down into kentucky. the overall setup is tropical high pressure. at any given time you can get the pop-up storms. the big thing we feel no matter where you are is the excessive heat. 97 degrees. this is a hot temperature on the way tomorrow. we think closer to 99 and then the heat bubble expands eastwarden saturday. so the really hot weather west of us, we think will overspread. we'll hit the low 100's saturday. saturday one of the hottest days of the year. we could break the record. chances for storms look pretty

minimal. overnight 77, prop cal, steamy and isolated storm. it's going to be a very hot day tomorrow. we'll say 100. it will feel like 100 easily. actually 105, 110 with the heat index. jamie, i'm sorry to sound like a broken record. it will get a little worse before it gets better. 102 on saturday, the peak of the heat wave. next week into the upper 80s, so there's relief in sight. the end is in sight but it will get somewhat worse before it gets better. >> i went to the weather app. i looked at saturday and it was 106 for the high. >> it's happened. before we had 109 in odenton. it is rare. >> it is hot. the sun is blazing.

when we go outside we have to slather on the sun screen. remedies you'll find at your next picnic. >> you know there is nothing like a great day at the beach or the pool but that day of fun in the sun too often leads to a night of agony as you're nursing a sunburn. most of us know the drill about sunburn. an spf of 30. a ply it every two hours or you go for a swim or swimming a lot. a dermatologist told me you have an eight-hour window to treat that sunburn if you want to minimize your risk of skin cancer down the road. she also as tipped for simple home remedies that are probably sitting right on your picnic table. >> this is my all time favorite. i spent my childhood smelling like a salad. the acid in vinegar is related to a topical nsaid, those pills
