maryland/pennsylvania state line all the way down to 695 and it will remain clear once you do get onto the jfx. here's a look at the beltway, no problems to report here. in parkville at hartford road, 11 minutes all together on the outer loop from 95 all the way up to 83. that is a look at your abc 2 time saver traffic. charley, over to you. back now to that breaking news this morning, a developing story out of columbus, ohio. live pictures once again of a five-car train derailment in columbus. now, people around this area, they have since been evacuated. we have learned in the past few minutes two people have been confirmed injured. this happened shortly before 2:00 after neighbors reported hearing a massive explosion at the site of this derailment. no word yet on what caused it or exactly what is burning. fire crews and hazmat, they are on the scene trying to get this under control. we'll have more for you throughout the morning. a baltimore city firefighter is in big trouble with the law this morning. he's one of two men charged in running a prostitution ring and this morning abc 2 news linda stow is live at the fire department with all of the

details. linda, what do you know? >>reporter: charley, that firefighter has been suspended without pay. in fact, this isn't the first time he's been charged with something like this. back in 2010 he was charged with sex trafficking, but he received probation before a judgment which allowed him to keep his job as a city firefighter. police say he's 29-year-old ja mar simmons. they also arrested franklin koit. the city police collaborated to make the bust. they executed a search warrant at 208 south pulaski street and found a lot of condoms and sexual aids. the task force says the fbi's involvement indicate there is could have been a large number of victims forced to work as prostitutes and that some of them could have been children. neighbors say they knew just something wasn't right. >> there's a lot of women going up in there and, you know, i didn't know what was going on. >>reporter: now, if you know someone who is the victim of sex trafficking, you can get

them help by calling the safe house of hope organization. that number there is 443-690- 9679. we're live at fire department headquarters, linda stow, abc 2 news. >> linda, thanks a lot. today house republicans are planning a vote to repeal president barack obama's signature healthcare reform law. it's the first time that vote is taking place to ditch the 2010 act since the u.s. supreme court upheld the mandate about two weeks ago. opponents say it's a government intrusion on voters' health decisions. >> the american people do not want to go down the path of obama care. that's why we voted over 30 times to repeal it, defund it, replace it and we are resolved to have this law go away and we're going to do everything we can to stop it. >> any house repeal effort is expected to die in the democratic-led u.s. senate. even if it did pass the senate, president obama has already said he will repeal any such action. the report investigating

the child sex abuse scandal at penn state is set to be released online tomorrow. a former fbi director was hired to investigate by penn state and those who ousted joe paterno days after sandusky was arrested in november. paterno's family say the investigators decline its offer to respond to recent news leaks after the family asked to review the findings. they released a statement yesterday saying paterno did not in any way cover up for jerry sandusky. a flight from charlotte, north carolina to rome is back in the air this morning with a new crew following an emergency landing in philadelphia. the original u.s. airways crusade there was an unusual odor on board the flight and several of them became ill. the pilot landed the plane and out of an abundance of caution, the crew was taken to a hospital for observation. no illnesses were reported, though, among any of the passengers. a hot air balloon crashed to the ground near phoenix, arizona and the whole thing caught on camera. take a look at this. you can see it dragging by the wind, that balloon is being drug across the ground.

witnesses say the balloon was being dragged through the field for several hundred feet before it finally came to a stop. five people that were inside the basket of that balloon when it crashed, all of them walked away fine with just one great story to tell. here is an amazing story of survival. a 17-year-old florida boy survived an alligator attack at the expense of his right arm. caleb langedale was swimming with friend when is a 10-foot gator dplabbed a hold of his arm. he decided the only way he was going to survive was to give up his arm. >> took my feet and i put it on his mouth and i tried to jerk my arm off trying to break it free. >> once he broke free, langedale swam to shore and he was airlifted to the hospital. trappers, they caught the gator which still had langedale's arm in his mouth. however, doctors were able to reattach the young man's arm. thousands show up each year for comicon conventions, but no matter where the convention is taking place, the lines have

chase freedom. tragedy strikes the day before the comicon convention in san diego even begins. a woman waiting in line for the doors to open was hit by a car while waiting to cross the street. that woman later died at a hospital. the event draws thousands of people each year celebrating their favorite comics, pooks and movies. some people have been sitting outside since sunday morning for those doors to open. for the second consecutive year roberta curry and her seven friends are in line for the first to take part in the "twilight" panel. we're all here to see the stars

of the "twilight" saga when they get here thursday. >> we really wanted to see the actors up close and personal and not looking at a screen. >> again, that event kicks off tomorrow and runs through sunday. "hunger games" fans will have to wait until the end of 2015 to see all three books adapted into film. "mocking jay" will be split into two movies. the first will hit theaters in november of 2014 and the second will be released in the following november. think "harry potter," it's a very similar construct. the series hunger games catching fire, that's due out in november of 2013. so there is plenty to keep you coming back through 2015. as a rumor, hoffman has been signed for that sequel. gm now has some deals for you if you're in the market to buy a new car. it's an effort to attract more customers. we're going to explain the rules for you in just a bit. also this morning, sherree. >>reporter: a fight against bullying hits our area on friday.

news time 5:43. thanks for staying with us. every 15 minutes someone in the u.s. commits suicide, sometimes it includes teens as a result of bullying. baltimore ravens running back ray rice is now working to stop bullying. he's launching an event on friday to combat the epidemic. abc 2 news' sherree johnson is here with more. >>reporter: coming up on friday ray rice is launching an event called a ray of hope. it's a kindness, anti-bullying teen suicide program.

it's to bring attention of the problem of bullying. in april a 15-year-old committed suicide after she was bullied on social media websites. ray rice held a similar event in may at howard high school to discuss bullying. friday's event will offer a 22- minute powerful film put together entirely by students and this morning we have howard county councilman greg foxx joining me to tell us a little bit more about this. good morning and thanks for coming in. good morning to you. >>reporter: let's talk a little bit about friday's event. how important is it to have this? >> it really is important. i don't think people realize the impact that bullying can have. with cyber bullying, it's still a relatively new phenomenon and we're trying to figure out how to deal with it. in the opening you mentioned grace nakomis. that's the tragedy of a lovely young lady who lives in my district. the family is from western howard county. people just don't realize that this type of thing can lead to something that tragic. >>reporter: and what do we want parents and students to

take away from this event? what do we want them to get out of it? >> really a rareness and dialogue as well as community togetherness to be a part of this as well. so awareness about bullying, cyber bullying and the dialogue between the community, between the government officials, between police, between parents, between teachers, parents, students and realizing they need to communicate this and how to solve the problem. >>reporter: just how big a problem is this? >> as you mentioned, we had an event already in howard county. that was a howard county on only event. we had hundreds of people attend. after listening to parents and students talk about the types of things they've incurred within the schools and with cyber bullying, we had over 50 kids waiting in line to tell their stories when the event ended. >>reporter: wow! thank you so much for joining us this morning, a very important event. and once again, that event kicks off on friday, july 13th. doors open at 6:00 p.m. the event runs from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

customers. gm says you can return your 2012 or 2013 vehicles for up to 60 days from the day you buy it. of course there are some stipulations involved. you have to pay the set price. now, if you're not satisfied with the vehicle, gm will refund all of the money, returned vehicles can't have more than 4,000 miles on them and they can't be damaged. the offer is set to expire september 4th. that is the tuesday before labor day. target is going high end for the holidays. the chain now teaming up with luxury retailer niemann marcus for a limited collection this winter and, women, pay attention, it's going to feature more than 50 products from 24 top designers. they include diane von firstenberg and tori birch. the products will range from $800 to $500. the collection will be available both in store and online at target. all of this beginning december 1st and it's going to stay in place until everything sells out. you can upload pictures, keep in touch with old friends and even play games on

facebook. now the social media site is looking to offer banking service. they're considering teaming up with australia's commonwealth bank to allow members to make third-party purchases and send money to their friends. more on this story as it becomes available. time now for five things you need to know on this wednesday morning. two former penn state employees are due in court today for a status conference. athletic director tim curley and former v.p. gary schultz are all accused of perjury in failing to report the action of jerry sandusky. a status conference today happens for the man known as the fake rockefeller. christian gerhart is accused of murdering his landlord in 1995. he's currently being held on $10 million bail. a university of florida band member who was kill inside a hazing incident, his family is filing a lawsuit today. he was beaten on a bus following a band performance in orlando, florida. attorneys for a women's health clinic in jackson, mississippi are going to be in court today to continue to

fight to keep that clinic open. it is the only abortion facility in operation in the state of mississippi. a new law now threatens to shut it down. if you want to cut your calories, you start cutting your food into smaller pieces. that's according to a new study out of switzerland. researchers found people who cut up their food for one meal will eat 25% less of their second meal. so once again, cut it up and you may actually eat less. today is 7-11, and in honor of that date, the nation's largest convenience store chain is giving away free slurpees. 7-11 celebrating its 85th birthday. it's estimated 7 million slurpees will be handed out today. in keeping with that theme, they'll be handed out between 11:00 a.m. in the morning and 7:00 at night. you get 7.11 ounces for that frozen treat. lynette, you strike me as a cherry slurpee favorite. >> oh, my gosh. >> you are. >> you rock! wow! i can't believe you said that.

>> i go cherry too, but i get brain freeze and it hurts. >> when you get brain freeze, you're supposed to put your tongue on the roof of your mouth to warm it. try it next time. it might work. >> really? we look at the satellite and radar right now, not a whole lot to see in terms of the wet weather. most of the showers and storms off to the south, all this is courtesy of the stationary front. it's pesky, it won't get out of the way. with that we will have a chance for some showers in the forecast for today. we'll show you that in a second. laurel coming in right around 71 degrees. dealing with humidity out there this morning. we are really feeling it. as we step outside in laurel, we can see what's going on. we do have clouds hovering, but we're also getting a few peeks of sunshine out there already. that's what we like to see. more of the same in mount airy this morning. that is going to be the trend once again as we go throughout the day. here's a check of that weather pattern right now. we can see that stationary front still to the south of us. but, depend, if it wobbles a little bit further to the north, we do have a chance for

more showers and storms just like we got yesterday, mainly along the eastern shore. but for today it'll stay west of i-95. we're also looking at an area of high pressure. this is going to have a clockwise rotation around it. so with that it'll pull in an easterly flow off the atlantic and that's what's going to be keeping maybe some cloud cover across the area and also the chance for those storms as we go through the day. we're looking at future trend, and with this it's going to show you that we do have a chance for the showers again mainly to the west of i-95 as we go into the afternoon. so if your travels are going to be taking you that way, be prepared for an isolated shower or storm to pop up in the foaflt. now we look at the future temperatures, temperature coming in right around 90 degrees in baltimore. 88 degrees in easton what we're going with there. we're going to be seeing more of the same with these hot temperatures as we head into thursday, right around 91 degrees as well. be prepared for summer-like weather. let's get a check now of the traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. 95 is in great shape. there are no delays to tell but

from hartford county all the way to baltimore county. as we check in and take a look at the south side of 95 here at interstate 195, you'll notice it's going to be the same case here, everything nice and clear if you're traveling southbound down towards 495 or northbound up towards the tunnels. as we pull up some drive times, you'll notice there are no delays to get in your way on 83, just 22 minutes from the maryland/pennsylvania state line down towards 695. the beltway also going to be nice and clear, traveling the outer loop from 95 up to 83, that stretch will take you 11 minutes. and over on the west side, you are looking at a 12-minute ride on the outer loop from 795 down towards 95. that is a look at your abc 2 news time saver traffic. charley, over to you. it's is a secret hidden in the nation's capitol protected by all possible threat? we'll show you what's being kept high on the roof over one of d.c.'s most popular museums. i bet you their ducks. we'll be right back.
