howard county general is one of two in maryland that's part of a program that promotes the use of breast feeding for new moms. roosevelt says more on one step they are taking setting it apart from others. >> the hospital is giving out free samples of baby formula provided by the makers. they say the aim is to do all they can to promote breast feeding for their new mothers. >> like right now. >> reporter: mad lynn is sleeping. the newest howard county resident came into the world just this week and will demand the best. according to studies for the cdc the who, the american academy of pediatrics her best start will come from breast feeding. >> i knew about the advantages of breast feeding as far as --

i knew there were a lot of health benefits. >> the benefits part of the reason why the hospital is stopping the general practice of giving new mothers a gift basket with formula samples inside provided by formula makers. the hospital is one of 90 hospitals that is taking part in the select program, the best fed begin beginning program. >> we just want to important them the best we can. our goal is to make sure they are all healthy and the families 457y and will continue to be a part of the community. >> reporter: they are like counselors working to show them what they need to know. with this it help she found it worked for her. >> i benefited greatly from the services, the hospital had on hand -- the consultants and

the equipment and information. if it hadn't -- i wouldn't have been able to figure out how to breast feed. >> did you know that infant formula is one of the most highley regulated foods in the united states? >> reporter: the makers agree that breast feeding one of the best for babies but the formula council said formula is a viable option for parents and shouldn't be dismissed by hospitals or anyone. there are many reasons why, why women pick formula, first responsibilities at work or school, some count produce enough milk, the cost associated with buying breast pumps and other tools and for many they just don't have the time to do it. howard general said by promoting breast feeding they aren't dismissing the need for some to use formula. >> absolutely if a family decides to breast feed, that is fine. we will take care of formula or there could be a baby who formula is the best thing for them and that's what we will do

a minor head injury. a maryland police found large amounts of heroin and more than $70,000 of drug money. cops pulled over algebra boyd shall, a dog unit was called in, the dog made a positive alert and a warrant was conducted. boyd is in custody. police say this is an example of good police work. >> getting rid of those red light cameras we told you about. one is on routes 140 and 97, they say the cameras prevented accidents. >> so if you reach a point where the number of citations being issued are lower than the amount of money that are you spending to maintain the program are you in a negative balance. we were in a negative balance for both of the traffic movements east and westbound.

. police tased a man for refusing to show his identity. they stopped him for jay walking, he wouldn't show them his identity and they tased him. the man's friend shot this video. it's illegal to refuse to show your id to police in florida

and he was warned he would be tased. a gun was found on the man but he did have a permit. you may remember this. a mississippi man tries to rob a store with a real looking toy gun. he is stopped when his mother grabs the gun and drags him out of the store. he was later arrested and today he waived his right to a preliminary hearing. his mother is till upset. >> so shocked and -- disappointed and hurt that i see my son standing there with a son i can't even sleep over it. i'm hurt and disappointed. >> the case will now go to the da. he is charged with armed robbery and is being held ono $300,000 bond. check out this scene in thailand. tens of thousands went in to the streets to mark the anniversary of the

great skills. >> reporter: monica stone is one of those secret weapons. she has had two kids here at shipley's. >> i don't think anybody is really surprised. if you knew the teachers you would -- know that they do that kind of routinely. they prepare not just for the test but for everything here. >> the hard work shows in scores. i think that the teachers do a great job of focusing on the msa's and letting the children know it's important but not giving any stress with regard to taking the test. >> reporter: not only do they have a great passing rate, they have the highest percent age age of advanced placement students. in millersville. >> and even though they did this for the second year in a row that gave them a goal to do it again next year. and they weren't the only elementary school to preform at the highest level.

the radar looking very, very good but it's down no the south and west. we have a lot of activity, rain and thunderstorms into that part of the country. some of that will push toward the north as we head in to the weekend. 85 new york city. 86 -- we look at temperatures well out to the west. headlining the hat. there is a ridge of high pressure, look at the numbers, 97 degrees, oklahoma city -- 96, 94, this heat eventually will get in our direction in the next 48 to 72 hours and that will go with -- the with humidity. this warm front, which was a stationary front will turn into a warm front and push toward the north. that brings in more of a southerly wind. that will kick up the humidity and the heat in to the weekend. then that will lock itself into place for the next five to perhaps eight days, another very warm period in to the weekend and early next weeks.

temperatures through tonight into the upper 6 -- we will be well in to the 80s. the rest of the evening, 85 degrees, partly cloudy, enjoyable evening. in to the over night still a nice night. 66, partly cloudy, another gem. here is the forecast for tomorrow. two degree guarantee around 90. sun and clouds but a dry heat. you will notice the up tick in the humidity values into tomorrow night. that's the influence of that front we showed you down to the south. while we hit 90 on saturday the real numbers will make it feel into the middle 90's. warmer on sun and with the humidity we will fire off a shower or storm and warm irfor monday or tuesday. 93 to 95 and into the 09's by the middle of next week. normally around 87, 88 degrees so we will be above average and i did math for you, no test. >> we will test you at 11.
