transformer box caught fire. hazmat crews are on the scene. we start with our team coverage and the major cleanup underway in downtown baltimore. within the last hour we got new information on the cleanup operation. roosevelt leftwich has the latest. rosie, what do you have? >> reporter: it's still a mess. this is probably some of the first work you're going to start seeing on this whole. they dumped a load of back fill and put some in the hole to help shore up the street. when that water started coming through here it basically under mind the street as well. one thing you'll see, too, you'll see this length of pipe. that's in an effort to get water to some of the areas that zoo have water. once again, let's go back to the hole. eight feet across by seven feet

deep. it undermines the street from redwood street to lumbar but everything to lombard is closed down. they've been trying to get water to the west side. the east side of light street that's where the business where the duncan don't nuts are, they have water. they weren't able to get water to the bank of america. now one of the things there was a news conference a little less than an hour ago. it's going to be a long one. it's going to take three weeks to repair the road to get this back up to snuff. they will also do proactive work. here's what the city public works director alfred fox am to say. >> we are removing a 20-inch

line from redwood to lombard street. there's another parallel line, 10-inch line that was installed in 1914. we're also going to replace that. what i mean by being proactive, we will remove those lines and replace them with new lines. once we go in, we can close this road and not have to come back again. >> reporter: one of the things we mentioned, a lot of the lines are old and this is the result of that. a lot of people got the message about the traffic. since light street is blocked off, things are moving good. as you may recall, light street is one of the big ways to go south to get over to 95. so they're redirecting traffic. there's an issue with the bus. more than a dozen buses use light street and redwood.

we have client file unless the basement. so we'll have to go down and sift through them and see what's what. it's like dead. even now, this morning, we came in. >> reporter: next door, the owner of freshy's restaurant began calculating the lost business. >> as workers focused on running temporary lines to businesses to restore their water service, those on a side street took a lighter side to it. even hotel customers found some amusement in the water breaks that turned the streets into streams. >> i had to walk an extra half a

block. i'm healthier for it. i will live a little longer. >> many of the affected businesses are concerned even when they get their water back, the customers will be slow to follow. jeff hager, abc2 news. breaks like this is why the city raises the water bill. abc2 news investigator joce sterman is here now with more on presidents city's deteriorating infrastructure. >> reporter: the city's aging water main dates back a century. the broken main under light street is believed to be 122 years old. in 189 -- 1889 there weren't even cars on the road when this was installed. with that age and wear and tear comes breaks. as of june there were already 400 water main breaks.

difficult. a pretty hot day. yesterday this hit 95. we are sitting at 100. we were 98 a few minutes ago. the new number as of 5:00, 100. a pair of nines toward d.c., and frederick at 99. we had humidity. that's why we see our heat indexes between 104 in the city. and the eastern shore baking between 101 and 103. the heat advisory will stay in effect until 9:00. we also have that code red alert. dangerous heat expected going into tomorrow. 95 for the rest of the evening, mostly clear skies, 95 around 8:00. we'll slowly fall back into the 80 and upper 70s by tonight. this is a mess going on. to give you an idea, calling it the ring of fire. that's responsible for the heat. on the outskirts we see a lot of

this is 24 hours after that massive water main break on light street. work is under way and the department of public works said it will not be an overnight fix. it is expected to take three weeks. baby bolts and sippy cups no longer contain the chemical known has bpa. the industry asked the industry to phase out rules allowing them in products in october. all makers already abandoned the chemicals due to health

of those food stands have critical violations. are you unhappy with facebook? get in line. a new report says most of us aren't happy about some of the most recent changes. which social media sites are doing the best at keeping its users happy. >> reporter: hey, facebook users, annoyed by advertisements, are you tired of timeline? turns out you're not alearn. facebook saw an 8% drop in user satisfaction this year. that's the biggest drop of any social media outlet surveyed and set the record low score. facebook users are unhappy with changes to the use per face with the addition of timeline. they also complain about privacy issues and advertisement. twitter and linkedin disapoaptd users with below average scores.

right around 99 degrees. we'll shoot it out toward frederick, same deal, ton of sunshine this afternoon, a little bit of a breeze but that didn't help much. temperatures in frederick hit 99. shore front we had a good crowd, showing mostly sunny skies and no sea breeze. so it was well into the 90s. 100 degrees in the city. frederick, we mentioned, 99 degrees, eastern shore numbers between 95 to 98. the heat, the humidity producing these heat indices around 104. 103 in dover. we have an excessive heat advisory. they just reissued that. we have the code red lay all right. good news is there is some relief. we'll show you coming up in one second. another day of some hot conditions. 93 around the 8:00 hour. the 11:00 hour, 86 still.

we're going down 78 on our way from 98 for your afternoon high tomorrow. a lot of areas will push the century mark once again. not much happening over the mid-atlantic. storms moving into the interior new england. notice the cold front. showers, storms to the south. what we're focusing on is this front. i must switch it over. we put the tracker on this. it -- northern wisconsin. that's what will slide in our direction, more so wednesday evening into wednesday night. that could bring some drenching thunderstorms and some of which could test the upper limits. hot and humid as we head into tomorrow. watch the front as it sacks to the south. that will bring in the showers. we're pinpointing the arrival time going into the evening and the night. that's the indication on future trends. dry tomorrow morning. 85 degrees. that's a launching patted --

bigger babies are tough on expectant moms, but researchers said having larger babies could mean an increased risk of cancer. those waying eight and a quarter pounds or more were more likely to develop the disease. mothers with the heavy babies were more likely to have biomarkers associated with the breast cancer risk. the hormonal changes may be what's responsible for this. a new disturbing study about dental fillings. children with certain types of fillings may be more likely to have psychological problems. that's coming from the harvard medical school researchers. those with fillings made with bpa were more anxious, depressed and stress problems compared to fillings made with metal.
