saying please don't make the power go off. >> they actually shut down the bay bridge for a good portion of yesterday of last night. so yeah the winds were just so heavy. so fortunately it's very open today. >> we have a report of the bay bridge about 40 knot winds to about 55 miles an hour. >> that's pretty amazing. >> that's why they shut the bridge down. too much of the winds coming through and we had one incident where a car flipped over because of the wind. that was about a few months ago, look at the guys 104 hit if baltimorement that's a new love yesterday. the record was -- record yesterday. the record was 102 set back in 1887 to tell you how hot it was yesterday. 81 degrees in d.c. and a muggy and mild morning out there. really pretty shot though with temperatures that are into the 70s. and we have a good deal of clouds across the area. en maryland's most powerful radar there's one little loan shower that's cranking to the west of ellicott city and that's going to be sliding over 70 over the next couple of minutes or so. so just be aware there are a few spotty showers out there

mostly isolated but we're going for 92 the two degree guarantee. we'll time the arrival out on future trend in a little bit. now a check on traffic and lauren cook in the traffic center. good morning mike. well hopefully the storms will cool everything down for artscape this weekend. if you are hitting the roads we have some trouble in anne arundel county there's a four car crash on route 295. right along the southbound lanes another interstate 195. you want to expect delays in the areament 95 will be the best alternate route. heading to downtown baltimore that yolk still causing -- water main break still causing big problems on light street shut down between baltimore street and lombard street. use mass transit if you can, if not hopkins place fayette street are the best alternate routes. out on the beltway a crash actually cleared on the west side on the inner loop at reisterstown road. here's a live look at overly. starting to pick up on the outer loop up to loch raven boulevard. but inner loop nice and clear down to 95. white marsh at route 43.

only a four minute tripe down towards 695 and no delays and that will remain the same heading all the way into the city. megan and charlie, over to you. that downtown water main break is a mess if you work in that area or? you plan on taking the kids to the harbor. >> all right now businesses is costing them a lot of money. nearly three days now they have been without water on the west side of light street and many doors have been closed and locked up and that's costing them money. >> let's hope so. abc2 news' sherrie johnson is down there with reaction from people not only who live there but who work there. >> reporter: some are frustrated but holding up pretty well. this 7/11 right here they just received their water and they have been able to open back up for business. they have been closed for the past couple of days and you can see some of the customers heading on inside there. now the city says this morning the water should be reshored to everyone who lost it because of the water main break. that's this big hole in the ground right here, crews are still repairing the water main

break and the road. they'll actually start work again this morning at 7:00. we've actually seen some of the crew members start arriving here this morning. but they start work at 7:00. and you can see here this -- they got a lot of work to do. the street has actually buckled here in the middle here so they have a lot of work to do. and we're told that it's going to take about three weeks and while the city has a temporary water supply to some buildings, others say no water actually hurt businesses. the department of public works has decided the two block affected area should be dug up and they needed newer pipes and once again we are told this should take about three weeks and you know we're also told that to repair the two pipes should cost about $600,000. reporting live in downtown baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. as a parent you worry when your child plays outdoors and here's an example of why. a 10-year-old girl outside of her own home this happened in philadelphia. was nearly abducted in front of where she lived. the whole thing caught on camera. you can see a man approach the child but she knows this isn't somebody that she should be

talking to. and she fights for her life. >> it's a sick individual. to do something like that. i want this creep off our streets. immediately. >> not only was the girl able to fight off the grown man she was able to give police a description of him. george zimmerman now speaking out for the first time publicly since the shooting death for which he has claimed responsibility involving florida teen trayvon martin. >> abc2 news linda so is here to tell us what she said. linda? >> reporter: he is sorry and prays for the martin family every day. in an interview last night he said martin was making confrontational gestures to him the night he shot and killed him. he said the teen asked him if he had a problem and he attacked him. zimmerman claims the situation quickly got out of control. supporter of trayvon martin's family want him convicted of the second degree murder charges he faces. zimmerman says he does not remember what was on his mind

before the gun went off but he does remember what the teen said to him. >> he said you're going to die tonight [ bleep ]. and took one hand off of my mouth, and i felt it going down my chest towards my belt and my holster. >> reporter: during the interview, zimmerman felt what happened was part of god's plan. martin's father released a response saying there is no way his god would have wanted zimmerman to kill his teenaged son. linda so, abc2 news. something you never want the encounter in the water big white fins. teeth. >> lots of teeth. sharp ones. but that's what happened with a group of fishermen in florida. they came face-to-face with a great white. and of course the whole thing caught on video. >> okay this roads scholar decided he was going to jump in the water. he gets out of the boat and keeps rolling as that shark is circling. >> now fortunately their experience is -- it ended with no nothing more than a cool story and cool video to share.

goods thursday morning, thank you for joining us, this is your abc2 news to go, i'm megan pringle? and i'm charlie crowson. a lot this morning as you head out the door. sherrie johnson is out live with new information on what's going on with the water main break downtown. >> yeah, linda so has more information on the damage from the storm that we experiencing last night but we're going to start things off right now with meteorologist mike masco. >> all right guys good morning. what's going on outside? it's a beautiful morning. we're going to show you again this is our weather bug camera. hey not bad out there. but still a little muggy as we're looking at temperatures right now that are into the 70s. it's pair of 7s downtown and most of the areas into the 70s. a lot of clouds across the area right now. that will be us but this is the

front that we have to keep an eye on this afternoon. it's cool air to the north and hotter air to the shout and that separation and that soundry in right now -- boundsry fought now could produce scattered showers and storms. muggy around 7:00 at the 8:00 hour. lunchtime how about 88 degrees the two degree to around 92 degrees for the afternoon hours. we're talking temperatures falling into the 0 #-z through the 8:00 hour andwell time out those showers and storms to get you prepared for brush afternoon today. and take you right into the weekend coming up in just a little bit. now a check on traffic and lauren is in the traffic center. good morning mike, we have heavy delays on route 295 this morning there's a four car crash right now right along the southbound lanes at interstate 195. traffic jammed all the way back to the beltway. so definitely stick with 95 as your alternate route. now for those of you who are heading downtown, that water main break still causing big problems on light street. it remains closed between baltimore and lombard street. to allow yourself some extra time to get around everything.

even use mass transit if you can. now if you are using the jfx, no concerns what 695 all the way downtown. and the west side of the beltway really starting to jam up. here's a live look right now at old court road. the outer loop will be even slower when you do make the drive down towards liberty road and it will remain that way all the way down towards route 40. here's parkville though. fortunately nothing to get in the way here at harford road. no delays all the way up to 83. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. megan and charlie, over to you. i'm absolutely mess, that's how some business owners describe what it is like on the streets directly impacted by the water main break in downtown baltimore. >> east side businesses, they've opened. they did that tuesday. west side, they're now getting some relief as some of the water being turned back on. abc2 news sherrie johnson is live this morning with the update and how are things going? i know one convenience store they were closed for a number of days. >> reporter: yes, things are going pretty well for them. this 7/11 story is all new information for you.

they opened yesterday at 3:00 p.m. and they have water. they've been closed for the  past couple of days and they are very excited they can open for business for their customers. you know the city says this morning the water should be restored to everyone who lost it because of the water main break. take a look at these trucks here. you know crews are already in place. they will start work at 7:00 this morning. working to repair this water main and the road. and while the city has a temporary water supply to some buildings, others say no water has really hurt business. now the department of public works has decided the two block area affected should be duck up and the 20-inch main along with the parallel 10-inch main should be replaced by newer pipes. while cars are redirected during the working the foot traffic has been pretty steady. and for some businesses, that could have been no water meant no income. and for people who actually live in the area, tough living conditions. we're being told right now it's going to take about three weeks

power lines landed on homes in this neighborhood. you couldn't get through on some roads. the rain also flooded homes and streets. some cars stalled out trying to navigate their way through the mess. in prince george's county, lightning knocked out power in one neighborhood last night's storm brought back bad memories of what happened a few weeks ago when the storms tore through the area and once again people have a lot of cleaning up to do. >> we knew that it was an older tree and that eventually it was going to have to come down. a lot of headache now. that all of this is going to be huge to clean up. >> we're starting to see neighbors continuing to you know potentially get hurt. >> reporter: despite the damage, no one was seriously hurt. linda so, abc2 news. it is ten minutes before 7:00 on thursday morning. a live look glen cove, new york on long island. the mayor of that town has said his town was clobbered by the storms that rolled through. megan? the immediate problem after that storm clearing all the massive trees that brought down
