we will have that from brian kuebler as well as the state of the statute of joe paterno, his statute at penn state, should it stay or go? it is one of those stories that makes you ask, what is wrong with people these days? 12 dead, dozens wounded. we have team coverage to make sense out of this shooting. we begin with the latest on the gunman, here is scott goldberg. >> reporter: james holmes was a student at the university of colorado denver enrolled in a phd program studying neuro science, the school says he was in the process of dropping out when he walked in to a midnight showing of the batman movie ready to live out a super villain fantasy according to police. >> the suspect was dressed in black, wearing a ballistics helmet and a vest.

>> his hair was dyed orange or red and said i am a joker. he started shooting at people who like he, had purchased tickets to one of the summer's most anticipated films. >> i never saw dead bodies, bodies period covered in blood. >> reporter: among the 71 people shot, the youngest receiving medical treatment was a 3-month-old baby, among the 12 people killed the youngest was 12 years old. one of the dead was jessica, an aspiring sports caster who unbelievably survived another shooting last month at a mall in toronto. she wrote in her blog, every second of every day is a gift. in san diego, where holmes grew up, his stunned parents asked for privacy and said their hearts go out to the victims. neighbors remember james as a cute kid. >> i refer to him as jimmy even though i know he changed his names to james when he grew up. >> reporter: the seemingly happy high school soccer player, held as the only

suspect in one of the deadliest massacres in american history. he was a member of the honor i society. the only thing on his police record up until now is a speeding ticket. we are learning about the victims killed and injured in the shooting, a sports blogger who wrote about surviving the toronto shooting died. she was active on coble media and last tweet was in capital reading reading the movie doesn't start until 20 minutes. two service members and a sailor was injured and one unaccounted for. this saddened the nation. here in baltimore it's no different and as people lined up outside of theaters today to get their look at the batman movie, thoughts of colorado and the massacre were on their minds and one question, are we safe here? brian kuebler joins us live with reaction from fans and

police. what are they saying? >> reporter: a very big night for a very big movie. we want to make it clear there is no credible the threat here. local law enforcement isn't taking chances. at the lands mark in harbor east downtown , the matinee showing of the dark nigh rises had a line of people waiting to buy tickets, people were waiting to be entertained by the summer blockbuster for months but today, were keenly aware of the horror. it's crazy to be premeditated with the gear. >> words have a way of failing of describing i feel behavior. a incident rooted in tragedy and randomness it has cities

everywhere, for children and adults it can be difficult to process. here are some ways to talk to you child. joce sterman picks up the team coverage tonight with the way to help them understand. it comes down to how old they ares you need to take a different approach depending on your child's age. experts say a child about fife or six, needs to be told that something happened but pains are in charge and taking care of them. you don't need to go in to a lot of detail. an older child will have a better understanding. you need to explain there are disturbed people in the would, bad things can happen. they need to be assured there are adults doing the best they can to make sure more things like this don't happen. when tragedies occur, we feel vulnerable, like our seasons of safety has been compromised. helping a child real highs they are safe can make a big difference. if you need to step away from the coverage, do so.

to look in our hearts and remember how much we love one another. and how much we love and how much we care if our great country. >> until the day the president was running ads criticizing romney and rom hi hitting his opponent with ads regarding small business. no word when they will run for political advertisements the state. this brings to together oh shootings, 15 miles away in littleton, colorado. in 1999, two students went in to columbine and killed 13 people and injured 21 others, students and people sadist bringing back tough memories. another shooting was in 2007 at virginia tech, blacksburg, virginia, a student shot and killed 32 people and injured dozens more. we are hearing more of the 911 calls for help in the minutes following the shooting in aurora, colorado. once police got onto the scene they had trouble finding

today, it was a struggle to get to 80 degrees, here is a shot downtown. notice some of those drops on the lens indicating we have fog and precip coming down across the area. let's take a look and show you maryland's most powerful doppler, nothing across the state. towards the north and west, that's where we are seeing the scattered showers beginning to fire up and about four hours towards the north and west, right now it looks like these will move in to washington county, frederick and later this evening could be moving through the viewing area. we have a flash flood watch activated. up until 11:00 for the entire city limits, all the countys in maryland as we head in to tonight. any storm has potential of dumping copious amounts of rain. 70s of the eastern shore.

noticer tremendous amount of activity across the area. towards the north, a nice clearing line, that's going to be with us in to the weekend. we will let you know which day is the better of the two days in a little bit. we are continuing to clean up from a pair of thunderstorms that pummeled baltimore with heavy rain and flooded several streets. workers pumped water from flooded manholes in fells point and the manager of a pirate boat excursion on the inner harbor, called a close call. >> it was pandemonium. it was high winds that kicked up really fast unexpectedly. we were getting rained on and all the sudden the coast guard came over and said it's going to be severe thunderstorm warning. the lightning started crashing and we got the commerce off the boat. it was chaotic. >> the heavy rain caused a ceiling to collapse inside the hilton on pratt street and flooded the underground

statute's fate until next week. ocean city is getting a whole lot of money from the federal government to fix up the bus leak. the u.s. department of transportation is sending $2 million to the ocean. they say the money will help buy new buses repair old ones and make improvements to bus facilities there. 200 dogs rescued from a house in harrisburg, pennsylvania, the chihuahuas were found in filth. there were a number of dead dogs as well. the owners have been charged with animal cruelty. most of the pups will be placed in shelters. . less take look towards ellicott city. day of gloom and low clouds and showers across the yeah. there is the time lapse photographies showing the

degrees. i see that we will see enough sunshine to poke through the clouds during the course of your afternoon to get to 82 degrees. the eastern shore might be the exception to the rule. the further north and west, your conditions will be a lot better further east, more in the way of clouds. mailed's most powerful doppler is clear overhead. towards the north, that's where we see scattered showers. embedded thunderstorms in here. that has triggered flash flood warnings south of pittsburgh. we will watch the progress of the storms through the next several hours. about four hours to the north and west. if we see the storms move in to the baltimore viewing area it would be around 11:00 in to the mid night hour. temperatures, take a look at new york city, 64 degrees, we were 100 degrees earlier this week. 90s not far off towards the south. how about 100 degrees. we found the 100-degree mark around parts of oklahoma city. all the way down towards dallas texas. little rock 101, this will

weather at the park. we have a little bit of rain today, all the rides we are running except for sky rush and storm runner which closed for a brief period when it was running. everything else was running, guests were having a good time. people didn't come sphwh it clouds up a little bit. get on the rides faster. sky rush with quite a wait. quick question on safety, you are all about that. off weather offices you hon monitor possibility of lightning. >> safety is our top priority at the park. we have about 15 people trained in looking at the weather and trying to decide what is going on. people that monitor the weather. we have lightning detection equipment, we have all sorts of equipment that tells us what is the wind speed, what is the velocity of the rain. how quick is it coming.
