reporter: well, today the ncaa plans to announce sanctions against penn state and its football program. meanwhile, the statue of the late legendary football coach joe paterno is gone taken down sunday morning by the university many they used tarp keepingunder wraps as much of the activity as possible. an independent report found paterno should have done more when he heard jerry sandusky was abusing young boys. he was fired after 51 years 45 as head coach. the removal attracted a crowd of people. some felt it needed to go and others thought it was. >> he jerk reaction. -- knee jerk reaction. >> i think it's better for the university in general and everyone involved if the statue was not there as a constant reminder. >> reporter: now in a statement, the paterno family says removing the statue doesn't help the victims. today at 9, this morning, we will learn more about the sanctions the penn state football program will face from

being stated to ban high capacity clips when installed in both chambers ever since the recalled call for the ban after the tucson shootings. officers say a 87-year-old man slammed into a tree and cashed in ellicott city and it's under investigation as he died in the past weekend. according to the howard county police record, the road was slick due to rain and police say the 87-year-old was driving in ellicott city when the car skid on the eastbound lane and once again slammed into a tree killing him. speed appears to have been a factor. a huge air force jet is now back where it belongs. c-17 landed in the wrong tampa airport. ryan captured this moment on his iphone. he couldn't believe what he was seeing as the huge c-17 punched down -- todd down on a airport friday.

now "good morning maryland." the suspect in the colorado movie massacre makes his first court appearance. and rebecca stevens has details. >> reporter: james holmes won't be charged. prosecutors have three days to file the actual charges. at least 71 of them. one for each victim and probably more. 12 people died and several others were hospitalized in critical condition when the gunman opened fire in the crowded movie theater showing
