break news some in baltimore county will need a place to stay after a two-alarm fire that started after 2 this morning near the 3600 block of yeno lane. the fire is in randallstown and first called in officially at 2:30. 12 units damaged after the fire started on the third floor of the rockdale garden apartments and spread across the route. this is video from the scene afew moments ago. one firefighter suffered minor injuries 100 or so on the scene. courtesy of michael swartsburg and we have a live report coming up on good morning maryland. there's no secret many schools are hurting financially and lawmakers say profits from gambling could help out. today governor o'malley and law makers are holding a news conference about the possibility of a special session to discuss the idea of expanding gambling here in maryland. talks of that special session have been going on for a while. we could learn today if it will really happen. there's now a program in

and a new police chief in anne arundel county is a familiar face. county executive john leopold announced larry tolliver is coming back. he will replace james tier who resired amid krill nam investigations surrounding executive leopold. the start date is july 31st. the backlash intensifies against chick-fil-a. protesters have been demonstrating outside the restaurants all over the u.s. including in dc. this is all because the president of the company says he is opposed to same sex marriage. chicago and boston have pulled the plug on the welcome mat of the new restaurants there. supporters of chick-fil-a are calling for an appreciation day and they want that to happen next week. while gay rights advocates are organizing a national kiss in protest at the fast-food chain. maryland's biggest casinos are getting bigger. the expansion for the maryland live casino sure to draw in more visitors. he plans to retire after the

the dog days of summer for nothing. that hot dry weather now causing a drought all over the country. we have been reporting this now for a number of days. but, if you are hoping the fall season will bring in relief you may want to think again. noah is predicting through august and october nearly all states in the u.s. including here in maryland are going to have hotter than normal

weather. that's not a welcome sight or prediction on that. >> it's not. and you know, what we need rainfall across the area. and it's just to come. we have what couple thunderstorms and rain yesterday a quarter of an inch at bwi. we need much more than. >> hard and fast. >> let's keep our fingers crossed and do it today. we have a slight risk for severe weather. we hate to see the severe weather but we will take it how we can get it. let's look at satellite and radar. it's the big picture and most of the showers and thunderstorms to the south of maryland pennsylvania as of now. back into west virginia. and we are seeing another cluster down across the southern plains. well, we do have that slight risk the storm prediction center has it in it. southern maryland is in that. and also, the ohio valley also the tennessee valley could be getting in on some of the severe weather as we go throughout the day. biggest threats will be gusty -- gusty winds and hail large hail at that. now we look at temperatures this morning 71 degrees in

weather up to the north and back off towards the south and west. and some of that will get in here going through the remaining of the morning hours. but also, we are going to be very humid for today. check out the temperatures right now coming in right around 73 degrees in aberdeen. glen bernie at 74. and 7 -- glen burnie at 74 and the moisture content is high. we are talking about that. i will detail that. we are in the 70s for dew points. let's go back over to charley. let's the games begin. tonight the world's eyes are fixed on london for the opening ceremony of the 2012 summer olympics. the 700 day torch relay ended with a huge concert yesterday and there are still tickets available to tonight's ceremony. organizers say it's going to cost about 42 million dollars to produce the show and expected to draw in a crowd and audience globally of a million people. 205 nation in 300 events in the games and in all 530 americans will be representing the u.s.

and one of those make their way to london is baltimore native and olympic champion michael phelps. first competition is for the 400 individual medley. this is his last competition he is talking about and is retiring and will hang up the goggles and end the games. during a news conference yesterday he showed no signs of stress or archingousness. >> this is a meet just -- anxiousness. >> this is a meet just like every other meet. there's a pool a lane lines and scoreboard and we do what we have trained to do. >> he has 16 medals to his name. 14 of those are gold and if he wins 4 more in london, he will break the olympic record. news around the nation on this friday, a michigan teen is laughing has way to the bank after his city shut down his hot dog cart. city zoning laws don't allow food trucks to compete with restaurants so this young man had to stop selling his franks. packaging company heard about the troubles and they bought his cart for $2500.

three daughters. earlier this year he had celebrated his 111th birthday by throwing out the first pitch for a minor league baseball game. his advice for the long life is love, and always believe in people. i think that's advice we should all carry on. >> exactly. that hit my heart. so that's good news there. the sentiment he left and we are definitely dealing with moisture out there once again this morning. it's humid. look at the dew points. 71 in baltimore right now. dc coming in at 70 and you know what i will have a detailed look on the moisture content. the dew points a little later at 5:30 so you want to stick around for that. one of the facebook friends scad question and i will answer that earlier a little later in the newscast. but for right now, moisture coming in at 68 degrees in york and 69 in hagerstown and temperatures are warm. 73 in baltimore -- baltimore and 78 in dc so we are close to 80 there. but, we have a heat advisory once again that will go into effect at lunchtime for the areas here shaded in orange.

they have been look at baltimore off to the east and south. and we are going to be feeling it. and with that, well we have showers and thunderstorms that could spark up as we go into the afternoon. we look at the satellite and radar right now and we are looking at cloud and we have some spotty showers and storms to the north in pennsylvania and a big cluster complex of storms into west virginia right now. this is slowly pushing off towards the east. so, the storm prediction center does have us in a slight risk for severe weather for today. biggest threats is damaging wind and large hail. you can see it for the areas here shaded in the yellow color. so we are looking more into southern maryland for today. and also portions of delaware and as we look at that weather pattern this cold front is going to get slower to get to us. but it will make its way through going through the overnight. but ahead of it, very hot and humid. you get the clashing of the air masses and that's why we could see severe weather going through time. future trend picking up on showers and storms scattered in nature going throughout the
