charles in with a check of the forecast. >> good morning. so glad to have you back, megan. let's talk about the weather. as we look at maryland's most powerful radar, close to home, things look pretty good. we are nice and dry. as we slide to the south around lexington park you are look at showers and thunderstorms and around salisbury this morning, we have showers and thunderstorms popping up around that area. going throughout the day hour by hour, 6 a.m. the temperature at 72 degrees. i am keeping the chance for showers in here even as we head through the morning. look at what we have by 3 p.m. the temperature topping off at 86. scattered storms throughout the day. let's check the abc2 traffic with lauren cook worse rear dealing -- >> reporter: we are dealing with the water main break in downtown baltimore. you can use hopkins place as an alternate or mass transit would be a great option. now if you are using the jfx to get into the city, no delays.

an 11-minute ride from the beltway to east fayette street and here's a live look at what 695 looks like at packville. no probable -- parkville. no problems up to 83. using 95, to get into the city, this is 395, no delays through the fort mchenry tunnel. but watch out in east baltimore the sink hole is a huge problem on monument street. look this is the repairs underway -- look at the repairs underway. the city said this is such a huge problem that it may turn off some residents' water within the next week it should be repaired. until then use or liens -- oral -- orlean street. >> you think you would be safe walking your dog. >> that's what 574-year-old thought until she was attacked. this woman fought back and has a incredible story. >> reporter: its appears the robber had her eye on the 74-

year-old taking notice of her morning routine and her age. but gwyn sirota was willing to fight the woman who attacked her in her home. you may find the video graphic. show was walking her dog around8:30 like she does every day. she lives in the valley crossing community in cockeysville and said hello, to a woman and noticed the woman turn around. that alarm her and she went back to her house and walked inside the unlocked front door and sought woman inside her home. the woman attacked her and shefought back. the suspect then pulled out a kitchen knife. she was not stabbed but she had stitches inside and outside of her mouth from fighting. a neighbor what hunch something was not right when she saw the dog out. >> i range the bell once and she didn't come to the door and range rang it twice and the doog dog what strange whine so i rang the bell a third time and she was standing there and after a minute, she comes out

and she was bleeding profusely and her face was out to here. >> reporter: the suspect left out the back door with the wallet, credit cards and cell phone. linda so, abc2 news. he lived for 68 years but police hope whoever killed herman regis will spend years in prison. they found the body in northeast baltimore last thursday. his family had not seen or spoken to him for sometime. they had to get fire fighters to get inside the front door where they found the body. officers say he was murdered and they don't have suspects yet. family members and victims packed the courtroom to face the man who accused of killing 12 people in the colorado movie theater. james holmes were charged with nearly 150 counts yesterday in court including 24 counts of first-degree murder. the judge banned cameras in the courtroom. but witnesses say holmes had the red hair. family members of the victims who showed up in the courtroom

had a lot to say after seeing holmes. >> i felt resentment that anybody could take away someone's life for just going to the movies. and i also felt sorry for him in the sense that here was a brilliant person that could have done a lot of good but what went wrong? >> some of the people who showed up to see holmes in the courtroom wore batman t-shirts. one what splint on her arm from the shooting. if you live in crafton you may be take -- crofton you may be talking about the man who talked about blowing everybody up at work. he is in jail this morning after making threats late last week. he's been seeing doctors for a psychiatric evaluation. police discovered two dozen weapons in his apartment and he has not been charged until police say they gather more information on this case. and when you hear stories like this or the movie theater shooting we have been talking

about, it sparks a debate over gun control and there's a poll by the pew research center. 46% of americans say it's more important to protect the rights of americans to own guns. however 47% say it's more important to control gun ownership. the latest poll is sim is lar to one done back in april. -- similar to one done in april. ladies if you are headed to ocean city soon, you need to know where you're walking and with whom you are talking. sherrie johnson is here to explain and what's now led the warnings coming out from ocean city police. >> reporter: within the past month, there's been three attempted sexual assaults in ocean city. police warn women to be extra careful. authorities with the ocean city police department say someone is targeting young women finishing up a night of partying and taking advantage of the situation. on each attempted assault, the girls were able to fight back and get away from the attacker. now police tell us all three of the attacks happened between 50

and 62nd street in ocean city. >> walking in poorly lit areas and secluded areas and he approached and made a conference and then attempted to zek sexually assault them -- sexually assault them. >> reporter: police are have not caught suspect but they encourage people to be vigilant. >> the number one factor is safety. but specifically what advice are people giving people. >> reporter: yes, police are offering advice if you head down to the ocean. the buddy system is very important. never walk alone. and if you have to go somewhere by yourself, tell someone where you are going and the route you are taking to get there. be sure to not drink too much and be aware of your surroundings. and walk in well lit places. charley. >> all right. abc2 news sherrie johnson thanks for that report this morning. we have learned the traveling medical technician accused of causing a help titus outbreak wrote a suicide break saying he couldn't handle the stress and this a week before

his arrest. >> he worked for four maryland hospitals including johns hopkins ept with a arrested after reportedly finding him impaired in a hotel room. he is suspected of presidenting -- spreading hepatitis c to several hospitals at 7 hospitals in the u.s. lightning scene lighting up the skies during the olympic games. those rainstorms intense heat not causing problems for the thousands who are there attending the olympic games. all right that's a spectacular sight but we have lightning of our own across the lower 48. a lot of spots this morning, as we zoom in closer to home, not dealing with the thunderstorms directly but traveling to the south in southern maryland, around st. mary's county and calvert county and crossing the bay there, are thunderstorms across the area dumping a lot of rain. so if you get trapped in the thunderstorms that's a good thing because we need the

live look at statue of liberty at ellis island in the big apple. things look pretty clear out there. over the past few days we have had a little bit of fog kind of covering lady liberty. good to see things are clear this morning. if i ever was near him i would cut his tongue out so he could never talk. >> that was words from a an 83- year-old woman who said she was scamed out of thousands of dollars. listen to this. grandmother of 9 from georgia didn't want her face on tv because she says someone called her last week and pretend to be one of her grandsons.

person told her he was in jail for a dui crash. another person called claiming to be her grandson's lawyer. she ended up wiring nearly 6,000 dollars to mexico to pool she didn't know. police say there is not much they can do sin the money was sent out of the country. -- since the money was sent out of the country. a detroit woman who was fighting a flesh eating bacteria died. she picked it up after having a boil removed at a hospital. it's unclear if she died from the infection or complications from the type 2 diabetes. woman who took a sick baby from a hospital in 1987 is on her way to prison a judge sentenced her to 12 years for taking a baby and raising it as her own. that baby she is 25 years old. she was able to solve her own kidnapping after seeing a picture on a missing children's website. petway pled guilty to kidnapping and apologized to the biological parents. the woman's birth father says the sentence is not enough. >> she may be sorry because she

got a period of time. but i don't think she was sorry. to me she was under the state of mind to kidnap a baby and get back home to connecticut you are in the state of mind to get back home and you know what you done to me. so, i don't have sympathy forher. >> lawyers for petway says she was mentally suffering after miscarriages and still births at the time she took the baby. a kent state university sophomore is in big trouble with the police of the officers arrested the 19-year-old after police say he twite tweeted to shoot up the -- tweeted to "shoot up the campus" he is charge with aggravated menacing and he may be expelled. he is on bond after pleading not guilty. it was a really big traffic mess for some drivers in parts of northeast china. a rainstorm swept through the area. look at this leaving the roads flooded. it was waist deep watter. >> what's worse some of the
