right around 72. those temperatures will jump up as we head through the rest of today. maryland's most powerful radar is dry right now, but we do have the chance for some scattered showers and thunderstorms to move in here, just pop up as they do in the summertime. as we look at the forecast trend, going all the way up to 94 degrees for today. if we get more sunshine in, that is definitely possible. if those clouds come in with a thunderstorm like they did yesterday, then temperatures may be held down to maybe 90 or 91, but we like that downward spiral that we're seeing as we go through next week. but still the chance for the thunderstorms still in the forecast. let's get a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. we are dealing with several accidents. trouble out on 95 where there's a crash right along the southbound lanes at the fort mchenry tunnel toll plaza. more problems in baltimore county where there's a serious crash in hairford this, is at mount carmel road at hairford farms road. if you are headed out to the harrisburg expressway, here's a live look at hunt valley and

shon road. no problemsing down towards 695. you'll notice the jfx remains nice and clear, no delays, just 11 minutes to travel from the beltway all the way downtown to east fayette street. traffic is starting to pick up on 695. if you are headed out to that outer loop, you're looking at a 12-minute ride from 95 up towards 83 and the west side more congested. it's going to take you 13 minutes right now to travel that outer loop from 795 down towards 95. megan, over to you. it's 6:31 right now. and new this morning a controversial boy scouts policy is promoting one lifelong member in maryland to make a pretty difficult decision. as suzanne kennedy reports, he has decided to turn in an honor that took him years to achieve. >>reporter: this was one of the happiest days of steven kolella's life. since he was fossil fuel, he wanted to be an -- since he was 5, he wanted to be an eagle scout. now he's made the difficult decision to give back a medal he worked most of his life for. >> if this organization no longer represents something that i believe in, then i can't be a part of it.

>>reporter: the boy scouts of america recently reaffirmed its policy to ban openly gay members. that decision prompted this 23- year-old fredrick resident to relinquish his status as an eagle scout. >> the card that i sent back is something that i carry around in my wallet everyday. it's a symbol and it doesn't have any material value and it's been a huge part. >>reporter: more than half dozen eagle scouts nationwide in cities like jacksonville, banger and minneapolis have turned in their medals. >> it saddens me that everyday it's possible someone is being told you aren't good enough for this organization, you can't be a part of it. >>reporter: the boy scouts of america released this statement about these medals being returned, saying a majority of our members agrees with our policy, no single policy will accommodate the many diverse views among our membership or

society. palella wants his decision to help others. >> my hope is that it can influence a new ideology for the organization and that it'll inspire other people to stand up for what they believe in. >> only 5% of all boy scouts receive that high status of being an eagle scout in 2011. we have a warning for you this morning so you don't get ripped off. listen to this, catholic charities says someone is making posts on facebook and calling people over the phone, promising to pay off their overdue bge bills. all you have to do is give them $150. sound fishy? well, it is. catholic charities says this is a scam. someone is trying to take advantage of people who have fallen on hard times. >> it also in a sense of desperation that bill would be discharged today and paid today. >> catholic charities wants to remind you, they say they do not ask for donations over the phone or slis the people over

websites like facebook. the trial of anne arundel county executive john leopold has been pushed back. it was scheduled to start on september 4th, however, his attorney says he needs more time to go over all the information in the case. leopold was indicted back in march for allegedly misusing his police detail for personal and political gain. a consumer alert to tell you about right now. federal health inspectors have found unsanitary conditions at a north carolina cantaloupe packaging shed. so keep this in mind because that has prompted an expanded recall of melons that may be potentially contaminated with listeria. they were distributed in 10 different states, including maryland. this recall involves whole athena variety cantaloupes that were shipped in mid july. you should throw out those melons and go to the doctor if you're not feeling well. more information can be found on our website. this is how family vacations are not supposed to go. the coast guard had to rescue two adults and three children after their boat capsized. this happened just off the

it may sound like a soap opera, but this is a real-life love story and it's a great one. a couple gets married, they get divorced, they actually marry other people and they fall in love all over again. it's what happened to two 85 years old in western new york and tomorrow the happy couple will tie the knot. >> he's married. he said he is very excited. >> i bet he is. you see, wilma davis and lena henderson were married as teens. they had five children together, but they divorced 48 years ago, although they have always stayed in touch and remained friendly. now they're preparing to walk down the aisle again. of course, though, some things will be different this time around, for example, their

friday morning, good morning, and thanks for joining us, i'm megan pringle. this is your abc 2 news to go. we'll start things right now with meteorologist lynette charles. on friday you always want to know how the weather is looking. >> exactly. the weather looks like, so i'm showing you. i'm taking you outdoors right now in urbana we have patchy fog. carroll county, fredrick county getting in on the patchy fog early. that will begin to burn off as we go through the morning hours and especially by the afternoon. we will be seeing a sun/cloud mix across the area. west friendship upper 60s, westminster right around 73 degrees right now and those winds are calm. they'll pick up a little bit more as we go into the afternoon and change directions, they will be more out of the south and southwest. maryland's most powerful radar is dry right now, but this does not mean that you need to keep that rain gear at home. you need to keep it with you, keep it in your briefcase and pull it out as we need it as we go into the afternoon as we do have the chance for some scattered showers and

thunderstorms in the forecast. this is what your forecast looks like hour by hour. by 8:00 temperature close to 80 degrees. 91 by lunchtime, 94 is what i'm going with today. it will be hot and it will be humid. let's get a check now of the traffic with lauren cook. good morning. how are those roads? you were talking about lots of accidents the last time. >>reporter: yes. good news out on 95 where a crash has just cleared from the southbound lanes at the fort mchenry tunnel and the delays really starting to dissipate. we do have a serious crash up in baltimore county. it's right in hanford. police say a car has crashed into a utility pole. so mount carmel road is now shut down at hareford farms road. it will be closed for the next four hours. if you are headed to the area, stick with cedar grove or etna instead. no problems to report on the harrisburg expressway. it will be delay free from shan road down to 695. this is traffic in overly, traffic picking up at bel aire road, but pretty easy ride up towards towson. traffic not the same case on the northwest corner of the

beltway. that outer loop really starting to jam here at old court road and it's going to get even worse as you make the drive down towards liberty road. that's a look at your abc 2 time saver traffic. megan, over to you. we've seen her so many years by her son's side, cheering him on in the stands. when cal ripken's mother was abducted, we all wanted to know who did this, but no one wants answers more than the ripken family. today cal ripken, jr. will talk about this and he's doing it first here on abc 2. sheree johnson has more on what's happening. >>reporter: we are live here at camden yard where at 10:00 this morning cal ripken, jr. will address reporters about his mother's recent abduction and return and then at 7:30 this morning, he'll also appear on "good morning america" also to talk about this case. he's basically trying to put pressure, trying to find this suspect. he's encouraging people, if you know anything, if you saw anything to contact local authorities. right now police still don't have a suspect in custody.

on july 24th, violet ripken was bound and abducted from her hartford county home for about 12 hours in her car by an unidentified man and then returned home. police released the surveillance video and sketch of the suspect on tuesday. it was taken the same day she was kidnapped. it shows a tall man walking in and out of a store and aberdeen police say this is a very active investigation. they've not offered information about a motive just yet. there is a $2000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. cal ripken, jr. , also known as the ironman is a hall of fame former orioles player and, once again, that news conference starts at 10:00 this morning right here at camden yard. he'll address reporters. also at 7:30 this morning on "good morning america," he'll appear and also talk about the case as well. reporting live at camden yards, sherree johnson, abc 2 news. >> as sherree mentioned, we're about 45 minutes away from ripken's exclusive interview here on abc 2. about his mother's kidnapping. then he'll be speaking again at 10:00 this morning when he addresses the issue further. that's at a press conference in baltimore. we'll cover both for you. there's going to be more than just eating going on at chick- fil-a restaurants today across the country. gay rights groups are calling it same-sex -- the national same-sex kiss day and this is all in response to comments that were made by the company's president, dan cathy who says he supports a traditional marriage which was the scene wednesday as supporters of cathy came out in record numbers to chick-fil-a. the controversy is even getting attention of politicians. >> what i tweeted is i'm a kentucky fried chicken fan. that's where my loyalty lies. >> the young man or woman at this very moment is drawing up a business plan on the back of a scrap piece of paper on a chick -- and there's a chick- fil-a somewhere nearby. >> today same-sex couples are asked to go to chick-fil-as, kiss and share their photos or video on social media websites.

a man who owns 75 wendy's restaurants is showing his support for chick-fil-a. this message was posted in the marquee of a restaurant. this is colombia, south carolina. it simply reads we stand with chick-fil-a. officials from wendy's say that the sign was the personal opinion of that franchise owner, not the company. wendy's says it is proud to serve all customers with any beliefs regarding sexual orientation. well, it took just seconds for keith matthews, you may remember this man, to lose most of his auto shop and almost his life. this was the tornado that hit him early in june, his business. that twister tore through a small section of fallston up in hartford county, destroying everything in its path. matthews suffered really serious injuries including broken legs and ribs. tomorrow friends and family are holding a fundraiser for him. they're going to setting up a car wash near the site of his auto shop. that's on bel aire road.

you can get your car cleaned beginning at 10:00. depend, the proceeds will go to keith matthews and his recovery. when was the last time you heard this getting a pay raise. for a lot of us it's been a while. according to consulting firm mercer, the majority of companies do plan to give a 3% pay raise next year. not going to be across the board. mercer says executive level employees and top performers will likely benefit the most. the next time someone walks in to michael phelps' home, they may be blinded by all the sparkle and all the bling from his olympic gold medals. phelps won his 16th career gold medal last night in london which was, of course, individual gold of the london games. he won the individual medley beating rival ryan lochte and proak the record of all-time olympic medals, capturing his 19th earlier this week. it is inspiring his training partners at the north aquatic
