we are watching you closely kent island. look at the storms that blew through here. they are blowing again. should we cancel plans? let's find out now. >> i think we have spotty showers out there. there is another out towards west of maryland. kent island severe storm. look at the skylin improving. baltimore city had a severe one. the rain came in after 5:30.

spotty showers for much of the viewing area. notice the severe weather near elkton. much of the eastern shore getting slammed with the thunderstorms. winds in excess of 50 miles per hour. look at the lightning. 900 bolts of lightning from this line of storms that blew through here. that will continue the progression towards the east. new castle county thunderstorm warning until 7:30. the storms are putting the break brakes on. we'll watch the skies until 9:00 and the course of the evening. rain-cooled 75 in town. 90s over the eastern shore. we have another band of showers and thunderstorms towards deep creek maryland. we'll track that coming up. >> thank you. >> for the second time in less than a month we are reporting on another mass shooting on the

south side of miwaukee. let's go to scott for the latest. >> reporter: the shooting started outside miwaukee. a morning worship service suddenly became a crime scene. >> first officer on the scene is a 20 year law enforcement veteran and accomplished tactical officer. when he aarrived on the scene he engaged an active shooter outside of the temple. multiple rounds were exchanged. the officer was shotter multiple times. his currently at the hospital being treated for multiple gunshot wound . the shooter was also shot. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams swarmed the scene along with ambulances and paramedics. >> the personnel who went into the scene identified four deceased inside the temple. three deceased outside of the temple. one of whom is the shooter.

>> it stopped a tragic event that could have been worse. there was a service going on at that location. >> reporter: family members can only stand in anxious groups waiting for word of their loved ones. >> it is agonizing. >> reporter: one thing is certain this investigation is just beginning. >> there are multiple agencies involved local, state and federal. they are all trying to coordinate the response here. heavy smoke in the back of home this where an 80-year-old lady lived. firefighters were able to knock this down. it looks like the fire started in the back bedroom. that's where they found the

woman. >> all i saw in the back. a lady 80 years old lives there. the fireman had to break in the house. the woman did not make it. >> smoke detectors were working. in annapolis firefighters were busy with a two alarmer. the fire started yesterday morning. a 45-year-old woman had injuries to her left hand. tonight investigators are trying to find the cause of this fire. a midshipman died in a car accident in pennsylvania. a 21-year-old junior majoring in ocean engineering fell asleep in he is pickup when his car drifted forward down an embankment where it was hit by a tractor trailer in greenich township. he was going to be the captain of navy's gymnastic's team this

year. shots fired into a crowd at college park. we are talking 200 or more on a parking lot at the mcdonald's on baltimore avenue. nobody hurt. police saw the shootin . they arrested two men 18 and 20. campus police say they were not maryland students. we are minutes away from shutting down pratt street. it will be closed from 7:00 tonight until tomorrow morning at 5:00. this is for construction for the baltimore grandprix . ever see a kid misbehaving and the parents stand there doing nothing? not this time. not mom or dad. find out who told the teen to get in line. >> women getting dirty for a reason. we'll take you to orchard ridge where a community is growing one nail at a time.

was traveling with his teammates to a tournament. he thought he could be southwest airlines first come first seat system by boarding before he is group was called. he had no idea he was about to be busted. >> we have a young man that would like to apologize to the plane for cutting into the line. >> reporter: over the pa system they asked matt to cut to the first of the aircraft. >> i felt awkward. during the boarding process i took advantage of this airline. while some of my teammates were call today the front of the line i was not. and yet i cut in line. i hope you will all find it in your heart to forgive me. for i am a young man. i am smarter than i am. enjoy your flight. and remember fly southwest because they let my coach do this to me.

humidity 94%. winds southwest kick bringing in a muggy feel across the area. let's take you back to manchester. watch the clouds roll in with the storms again. look how that comes threw in a bling of an eye producing severe weather. ellicott city look at the storm clouds coming through that part of the area. wind gusts 35 miles per hour. not impressive winds but certainly enough to cause some problems today. baltimore city showing that severe storm rolling through. again, that was a quick hitter. these storms where 15 to 20 minutes then they were out of here. look at this ominous skyline. in terms of what is going on active severe thunderstorms are out east of us. we have warnings in extreme eastern cecil county because of the strong moving storms into southern new jersey. a thunderstorm watch maintained through the 9:00 hour for much

of the city limits. i think they'll drop it down some in the latter portion of the evening. maryland's radar showing a few spotty showers from dundalk. the storms that moved through is making a run through delaware, newark, delaware seeing powerful storms. we had tremendous lightning in new jersey and eastern pennsylvania. i'm watching a line forming towards the west of the state. this is still several hours away. during my 11:00 newscast we could track more storms across the baltimore area. be aware of that. there could be more storms overnight. 75 in town. 82 d.c. notice an unsettled planner. 80 degrees around the 8:00 hour. there could be spotty storms at 78. tomorrow another active day with late day showers and

thunderstorms developing. temperatures in the 80s. there is the first round coming through. here's the second round. this line holds together we could address some more strong storms in the forecast as we head into tonight. that warm surge continuing from the southerly direction. that's what is going to fuel these showers and storms. we'll keep the forecast reflecting showers and thunderstorms into tomorrow. tropics active. we have ernesto out there with winds 50 miles per hour. not going to be a threat for the gulf of mexico. we'll roll through this. scattered showers. spotty storms. 75 degrees. tomorrow two degree guarantee of 87 degrees with partly cloudy skies. if the cold front gets south we'll have a dry day. i think there will be a spotty storm in the forecast. dry air by tuesday. here comes the humidity again. wednesday and thursday upper 80s to around 90 degrees with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

>> when was the last time we had a forecast without the 90s? >> i was wondering that. it is not bad. just spotty storms into next week. habitat for humanity hosted a women build day. this is in the orchard roots community in northeast baltimore. habitat homeowners put in sweat equity hours before taking home the mortgage. >> being in the house where i put a wall out is priceless. you can put no price tag on that. >> it is demonstrating the power of women. dedication can make anything happen. >> habitat for humanity makes it possible for people who don't qualify to become homeowners. 30 habitat homes are going up

welcome to maryland spotlight. i'm kim knight. there are so many wonderful women in maryland. i think we need to recognize them. joining me is one of the spirited women, monica, the founder of my city. tell me about yourself. tell me about yourself. tell me about my city for her.

>> my city for her is a company i started five years ago. i noticed an increasing trend of women getting in decision making position and becoming entrepreneurs and business owners and community leaders. i felt they deserved their own media company to talk about their experience and transfer knowledge amongst each other and share success stories. that's the company i started. i created the foundation in tandem as a meaningful commitment to give back to maryland and the community where we are based. >> let's talk about that. spirited women awards coming up. >> coming up august 15, 2012. there is more to do. they'll be at the four seasons. it is going to be fabulous. how that came about is i won a national award from the red cross six or seven years ago. i got this award and i thought this is wonderful. what can i do for the red

cross? i decided to have fundraising luncheon. at the time i won the award morton's was very involved. it is like to power luncheon spot. i think women should have power luncheons. we got our idea and put our heads together and did the first lunch at morton's six years ago. we raised the money. very grass roots. it was a success. we said we'll have to do this next year. next year the award for the red cross was no longer happening. it was a one time thing i was lucky to win. i thought we have amazing, spirited women in baltimore. we should do a reward that continues the momentum and recognizes heros and gives back. we started that the first year. it snowballed. every year the winners are more

phenomenal. >> as you do it you'll raise more money and network with more women so they can advance. the me about the different categories. >> they are very specific. we start with spirited woman line. it is designed for a younger woman starting out in her career and making meaningful commitments in the committee. board membership, volunteer work, stuff like that. we view that as our way to groom the next generation of women leaders. then we have a woman in balance. that's an award designated for a working mother managing to make it look easy and graceful while she balances. we have a new award this year which recognizes local entrepreneur women in business. we have the spirited woman of baltimore award 2012. this year's winners are phenomenal. >> the top winner is maria
