now according to police, the encounter began in baltimore city around midnight wednesday where the man reportedly went to his ex-girlfriend's house and held her and her child at gunpoint and threatening their lives. she escaped early thursday morning but the man took off with the 2-year-old. officers tracked the man to a home in the 9000 block of. >> when the officers arrived, baltimore city and howard county police were confronted by the suspect in the back of the house outside and asked him to show his hands and knew he had a weapon overnight and assaulted this woman. and ultimately the suspect was shot in the confon station. -- confrontation. >> the 2-year-old was found safely with a family member. case is investigated by both baltimore city and howard county police and megan that officer who was involved in the fatal shooting is now on administrative leave until the thing is sorted out. >> charley crowson live at live

desk. we learned a teenage boy passed away after a house caught on fire in prince george's county. he is the second victim in the accident. a 5-year-old girl passed away on wednesday. her father is still in the hospital in critical condition. firefighters think a window air conditioner connected to an extension cord and power strip caused an electrical overload. the three victims were napping when the fire started. baltimore county teacher is on administrative leave after being arrested. aaron joseph waved a gun at a construction crew removing trees from a lot next to his house. he teaches at franklin high school and has been with boughtmore will you be public schools for 12 years. should you have to pay a power company for the first 24 hours of a storm outage. that's what's going to be decide by psc today. a hearing is scheduled on september 24th to decide if power companies can charge customers during outages. that charge is intended to ensure utilities are not

kids who don't have one. but rec centers will be shutting down. and it's not sitting well with a lot of people. linda so joins us now and what's planned for tonight? >> reporter: well people who want to save the rec centers will protest the closures. it's a symbolic funeral march and prayer vigil. five rec centers are slated to close tomorrow. supporters are upset the city keeps shutting them down. the protest is organized by the save our rec save our city coalition. organizers started the movement this summer to get people to stand up against the closures and the city leaders who are making the decisions. the normer naacp president for baltimore and pastors will be among guest speakers. linda so, abc2 news. 4:36. did you get rain yesterday? >> i heard a lot of thunder but didn't see rain. >> big storms across howard county. >> we had severe thunderstorms across the area.

through here as we head through the rest of the morning. this batch has dropped some severe thunderstorms across virginia. so, luckily, that has expired but again things could be fueling up going into the afternoon. now we will watch the batch back off towards ohio it will slide more into the afternoon time frame and we can see morethunderstorms possibly severe keeping you updated on the information. i will zoom into the thunderstorm now and that is pushing towards tawnytown. so if you are going that way this morning, be prepared to run into some lightning and also some gusty winds. we are also looking at some thunderstorms and also some heavy rain along i-70 at this time. so traveling this morning, it's going to be a little bit of a challenge if you are heading out west. now future trend picking up on temperatures coming in from 82 to 86 by lunchtime. you will want to eat the lunch indoors instead of outdoors because it's going to be a very warm day on tap. a very stormy day on tap as well and humidity is going to be with us once again. we will do it all over again
