hello, everybody. i'm beth troutman. we've searched the web for the best videos of the day. let's get started, "right this minute." a car crashes so violently, the engine takes flight. >> but that's not the story. >> it's how the injured driver freaked out on rescuers. find out why. remember the guitar hero with no arms who had just been
4:01 pm
invited to jam with a big-name band? >> it's really overwhelming. >> well, guess what? >> he got to play with them. we've got the video. ♪ the video of this plane crash is going viral. now meet one of the miracle survivors. >> do you feel like there was just someone out there watching ut for you? >> alwou're really, really blessed. >> and see some not useful household tips like fighting freezer burn. >> here's what you do. >> grab a spoon and eat the entire carton in one sitting. take a look at this footage captured by kgtv's chopper called sky 10. this is in san diego on the i-5. that red car you're seeing crossed a few lanes toward an exit and hit the retaining wall and hit the wall so hard that
4:02 pm
the engine flew out of the car. >> what? >> there's the engine on the side of the road. as you can see, emergency responders came to the scene, but that's not the story. when the emergency responders came to the scene, you've got firefighters, you've got cops. the driver, who was very much alive, who survived the crash, began acting erratic. they thought he was trying to flee from the scene so officers ended up putting handcuffs on him. they couldn't put him in the ambulance effectively with both of his hands cuffed, so watch what happened. they uncuffed one of his arms and this man begins struggling. he is fighting tooth and nail with these guys. he's fighting off firefighters, he's fighting off the two officers. one officer you see very closely is poised -- it looks like he's about to tase him, but he thinks better of it because the other officer has ahold of one of the metal cuffs. one of the cuffs is still around this guy's arm. now, this is the crazy part.
4:03 pm
they end up getting him to the ambulance, take him to the hospital. the california highway patrol determined that this man behaved this erratically because he had suffered a severe head injury in the crash. >> oh! >> that actually makes a lot of sense. >> we contacted the california highway patrol and all they could tell us about this man is that he is 35 years old, he's from dana point and they did determine that no alcohol, no drugs were involved. it really was just this head injury. and he is not being charged with any kind of crime. a violent heist left an elderly man bloody and it happened in less than a minute. this was in california. three guys dressed in black come in, jump over the counter. they attack the older man and his wife, start smashing the cabinets open, grabbing what they can. you see there's a dog in the store but the dog doesn't seem
4:04 pm
to slow these guys down. one of the guys grabs this 87-year-old man who goes after the suspects and throws him to the ground. as he went down, he smacked his head into one of the jewelry counters. one of the other people in the store made a run for the door and they threw him down as well. >> oh, he had a gun on that guy. >> they pointed the gun at everybody. >> oh, you can see the blood on his forehead when he sits back up. >> yep. this woman comes over, rushes over to him immediately. you can see the panic on her face. 53 seconds this heist took. >> did they take a lot of stuff with them? >> they were able to get away with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and items, but in these few frames, you see one of the suspect's face clearly. police don't have anybody in custody yet, but right there you can clearly see one of the suspect's faces. the scary part about all of this, these men were armed. so this 87-year-old man went after an armed man.
4:05 pm
check out this cctv footage that i found on itn. this happened on august 1st but it is just now hitting the web. that man is a police officer, martin knight. he just took his clothes off and he is going in the water in south end u.k. he is swimming because that 13-year-old boy is struggling drowning. >> oh. >> what an awesome officer. >> he's very quick on his feet and his swimming stroke because he got to him very quick le. he was able to drag him to shore and save his life. >> was the boy out there trying to swim? i don't see any parents or anybody nearby or did he get swept into the water. >> apparently he was on a day out with his step mom and swam out 200 meters and possibly ended up getting tired. that is when the police officer saw him and immediately swam to the boy. >> that is his good fortune that the officer knew how to swim, jumped in and had strong arms
4:06 pm
and a good swim to get to him. >> look at this part when they zoom into the boy. you can see him kind of sinking in the water. >> it's so smart of this officer, too, to strip down really quickly before he got in the water because his clothes would have weighed him down against the struggling boy. he just did everything right and he did it in a split second. >> he could have been a victim too if he would have been laden down with all his gear. good job, officer! this armless guitarist is george bueebenahee. he's a really talented musician. the goo goo dolls found him about him and they talked to him. he was really excited about the opportunity. >> it's awesome, but it's happened so fast and it's really overwhelming, but it's been my dream. >> he did two opening numbers and then at the end of the show when they played "iris" they invited him back out. he said about 2,000 phone cameras lit up to film him
4:07 pm
playing with the goo goo dolls. ♪ >> can you imagine you're up there and johnny resnick is right behind you singing the song you've heard on the radio all these years? >> do you know how many musicians out there are just dying of jealousy right now? >> to have the conversation that we had with them, you know, last week and to hear him talk about this concert coming up, but then to see him on stage and the band right next to him and the crowd and the lights just makes it that much more impressive and exciting. i love this guy. >> let's sing this together. ♪ >> they're singing together in a duet. >> like he's on stage with like a huge act. four months ago this was just a dream in his mind. now look at him. it's awesome.

all four passengers, including the pilot, survived this crash. we wanted to find out a little bit more about what it was like to be inside this plane and what this experience was like, so right this minute we have one of the passengers of that plane, dr. nath williams, he was the passenger in the front seat of this plane when it went down. first of all, just kind of recount this experience. >> i don't remember hitting the ground or anything like that. i had never flown in a small aircraft like that. i was really excited to fly. so we were just filming what was going on during the day. we ended up getting a little bit more than we bargained for on the video. before we knew it the trees were right over the trees. the trees started hitting the wings of the plane, and we went down. it happened really, really quick. >> how did that feel? >> when we hit and landed, we ended up upside down.
4:12 pm
we were hanging from the seat belts. we released the seat belts and all of us one at a time climbed out and realized that the pilot was in the worst condition. he had a broken jaw, he had a broken cheek right there and broken ribs. >> how long did it take before you guys got assistance and got out of there? >> there were two campers. they were there probably within 15 minutes or something like that. they brought us some water. they actually went to go get help. they found a retired firefighter and paramedic. it just so happened that a firefighting crew was driving past on a dirt road. somebody flagged them down. they came over. they had radios. they radioed for life flight. also they had chain saws. they cut down a landing zone next to the plane so the life flight helicopter was able to come in, pick up the pilot and myself and brought us to the hospital. >> what kind of injuries did you sustain? >> i came out of it with a concussion, scrapes and bruises. we were all kind of beat up a little bit, but all of us went
