leaders were working behind closed doors trying to basically drum up support. lawmakers are balking over the provisions in the measure. right now lawmakers are talking on the floor and part of one of the sticking points was the argument over gaming and vfw halls, some of the pull tab things to raise money for the facilities. today union members showed their support for the bill saying it will create jobs. >> the reality is that here it is about pushing this out to the voters and giving the voters the opportunity to vote up it or down. and overwhelmingly the voters support this. they see the money and the opportunities going out. they want to keep it home here in maryland. >> reporter: now earlier they did pass on the so-called "pit bull bill" and passed it to a third reading. but they're talking about gaming and could be a long night. the senate is supposed to go into session at 7:00 after the

crash. and jamie costello has more on this topic. >> reporter: it is rush hour you don't want to hear this, three out of the 11 luxury models passed the new tests which looked at front corner impact crashes. these are front end collisions that are not head on. when the corner hits a pole or tree. the institute for highway safety a group financed by the industry said we should be concerned. the vehicles are safer than they used to be 167,890,000 people die each year in crashes. >> reporter: a fourth comes from the overlap frontal crashes. in the test crashes of 2012 models, three of the 11 luxury cars, foreign and don'tics, earn wad is considered good or acceptable ratings. >> it represent as problem that's not being addressed by most vehicle crash designs. >> reporter: you can see the

burning now in oregon, nevada, utah, idaho and washington and california. 40 homes have been destroyed in washington state west of seattle and in california, firefighters are struggling to contain a 300-acre wildfire at joshua tree national forest, an area that's hard to reach. >> where the fire is it is in a remote area. there are some passages back in there. this a reason why we're bringing in the air attack. >> and making it difficult are the scorching temperatures and in the area they're experiencing a look of rain. crews are trying to do all they can to work around the clock until they get the fires in a situation under control out west. we don't have that problem here but other issues that we're dealing with in terms of the heat. >> i think what you see out

there is sort of the extreme summer 2012, much of maryland. drought situations as well. >> right, right. >> the storms we're seeing in some ways welcome and we see the severe weather. >> let's look speaking of that. they are popping up all over. and where are we seeing those now. they are in the northern section of harford county but then further west we have more than that. o'hare is the cell. a second storm popping up now. the end of 795. and here are two non-severe storms we're tracking. a more significant line here. and so these storms have been at times rated severe. we'll see what happens. any can bring down the limbs and we talk about it. one of our number one weather

killers. lightning you have to be careful with that. >> and the current conditions 84 degrees. the dew point at 68. the air is humid. winds from the east. it sets up a storm boundary that easterly breeze brings in the marine air influence from the west. and weather through the day t was a mix of clouds and sun. at times thinks looking om mouse. the last 30 minutes and as we're looking the storms are coming over the mountains out to the west today a wild view and take a look at the powder near mid80s now. a warm set up and a humid, too. winds are from the southeast but the dew point numbers. that means a environment and it is warm out there. it feels like the 80s and humidity. scattered showers and storms further west. that's what we'll monitor and

track. this is a slow moving boundary it will take time to get through here. i think that at one point we thought we would dry up but it is looking like the evening. things could stay unsettled and beyond there. how about the droppics now. we want to keep a sharp eye. a chance of development into a tropical storm but the issue out here right now over the waters is a lot of dry air at the surface. we're over the ocean t is in the midlevels the development of the next storm may be limited but storms developing here that's for sure they could last into tomorrow afternoon. showers and storms and 88 for the guarantee a chance of showers will continue and some sunshine. now into the next three days. we dry things out by thursday. most of fry is dry.

right now lawmakers at a special session in annapolis are debating gambling. last night a house committee voted to change the tax rate to off set the economic impact of a casino. now the house of delegates has given some approval to a dog liability bill. the house made some changes to the bill approved by the senate.

one of the biggest changes narrows liability standards to the owner of a dog not on a leash. and the bill was passed creating a standard for owners of all dogs. the institute for highway safety says that drivers should be concerned after some of the latest tests. they were implemented by the institute looking at front corner impact crashes and only 3 of the 11 model luxury vehicles passed the test. there not government mandated. there not required to make changes but it is likely though they will in order to receive those high safety ratings. and if you are eating out, you suspect the food to be safe. but you can eat at places with less than stel your inspection reports you never know unless they are shut down. and restaurants are not required to sclose what is found. and a bill has been pitched to give them letter grades but the bill has to work its way through a hearing and a vo
