nice and clear. in parkville at hartford road, a nice easy drive up to 83. a pit bull was on the loose and a child got the worse of it. >> we are details on what happened. >> the boy, the neighbor who witnessed this, they must be pretty upset this morning. >> reporter: needle to say, yes, the community is pretty shaken by this whole ordeal. a child attacked by a pit bull. this all happened in the 1400 block of st. michael's court in end wood. the pit bull bit the 11-year- old boy in the face and arm. neighbors say the dog and its pregnant mate are both bluenosed pit bulls. they got out of the yard roaming the edgewood community just hours before the male was shot five times by a sheriff's deputy after the dog charged at the officer. neighbors say the opener of the dog moved out of the house but

session that challenges the court of appeals ruling that all pit bulls are considered, quote, inherently dangerous. a lot of local animal shelters are worried that they will see an influx of pit bulls. an accused gunman is said to have muttered words about the organization's anti-gay policies before shooting a security guard. charlie is at the live desk mop are toking the situation and keeping you updated. >> we now know the suspect's name is floyd lee corkins from herndon, virginia. he is being held by the fbi on deadly weapon. the fbi is in on the investigation looking into who this was a hate crime or possibly domestic terrorism. -- he is being held by the fbi on charges of assault with a

they say they seized about 26 plants with a street value of before $26,000. they want to stay in this country and today, a local organization is going to give them the tools to do it. hundreds of immigrants or dreamers, as they are often called, are expected to be at a mass application clinic that will help move aspiring americans forward to this maryland. they are launching this clinic to try to get as many undocumented maryland youth as possible the tools to atry to get their citizenship. yesterday, the government started accepting applications for that temporary status. if you want to take part in the workshop, here are the details. it starts at 5:00 tonight at the casa multicultural center in langley park.

looking at plenty of sunshine as we head throughout the day. no rain in the forecast for today but it is going to be back. let's check out the wind speeds right now. we can see out of the north and west, that is indicative of a cold front sliding through the area. it has gotten through d.c. as of now. the winds will pick up more as we go throughout the day northwest at about five to 10 miles per hour. we are looking at the dry air filtering in behind the cold front. wet get a bit of a break for today. get out there, eat that lunch outdoors, mow that lawn. do it on the outside today because this is coming next. we have another cold front that will be moving through the area. this is a secondary one and this is the one that will bring in cooler air as we head into the weekend. so things are going to be looking up as you head into the weekend. that cold front begin to work its way in here as we go into friday. friday evening. so your commute home could be on the wet side.

news around the nation this morning. not only have the searing heat, dry weather and strong winds brought more wildfires to the west than last year, the fires

are now bigger than ever. there have been almost 43,000 wildfires reported so far this season. they've consumed about six million acres. that fire you are seeing now is video burning from about a 30,000 acre fire in washington state. west nile virus is on the rise across the country and here in maryland this year. it is so bad in dallas, texas that the mayor theres that declared a state of emergency in that community. west nile virus has caused more than a dozen deaths. state officials are expected to begin aerial spraying in an effort to stop the rapid spread of this mosquito-born disease. a michigan man jumped from a plane on his 70th birthday but he didn't do it just once. he did it twice and then he did it 70 times. he had been sky diving for 46 years. he says he plcontinue
