while the trial date is not set for the man who killed and ate his roommate. >> the latest development on one family's status with prodresssive insurance. an annapolis man is behind bars after trying to kidnap a woman and her child has they got off a city bus in east port. >> reporter: she's owned a business in east port for 33 years, but she had never hard of anything like this before. >> that's very scary. that's very scary to hear. >> reporter: police said a 28-year-old woman and her child stepped off a city bus in front of the east port shopping center monday night when a man riding the same bus followed her hand attempted to kidnap her at gun point. >> he grabbed her by the arm, made a few comments about having a boyiend and that she was going to be his girlfriend now

and took her bag from her. she was able to scream, get the attention of some other people and he started walking away quickly oar are based upon the woman's description, police began looking for 33-year-old william ranaldo brown, jr. he was taken into custody a few hours later. >> he is known to police. he was recently released from federal custody two months ago for handgun violations. we recently had a run-in with him where he was the victim of a cutting and we were afraid of retaliation in that case. >> reporter: a long cut along the length of his arm made brown easy to identify. it came after he struck a young child a few weeks ago while high on p.d cp. people are applauding less for their quick capture. >> i hope he does a long stretch in some federal prison for that.

that's ridiculous. >> reporter: in annapolis, jeff hager, abc2 news. >> brown faces a series of charges including armed robbery, assault and kidnapping. he has been held at the -- at the anne arundel detention center. >> three were found shot in a home in west baltimore last night. police were called out for the report of a gunfire in the 600 block of linnard street. they didn't find anything. a short time later they got another call, this time for an injured person. officers went back out to the neighborhood and found the three people who were shot. the three were' nounsed dead at the house. >> the house is no stranger to the police department. we have had issues with people inside of that house in the past. obviously, never to this magnitude but we're looking into the history of the house, history of the people we found inside and trying to piece some

things together. hopefully we'll be pointed in the right direction. >> police have not relsed names for any of the three but are asking people with information to give the police department a call. police are also looking for two men who they say pushed a woman to the ground and took her purse. it happened about 10:30 in the 1200 block of william street. the incident is being investigated as a robbery rather than a purse snatching. i think we'll give this, what, a 10 today. beautiful. look at the downtown shot after 6:00. it is a gorgeous evening. temperatures will slowly fall back into the 70s and upper 60s. 87 in town, nearing the 90 mark, frederick at 88. it's all about the dew point, how it feels out there, when these values are running into the 50s. you do know this feels comfortable. more humidity on the way tomorrow. let's map out the next 18 hours.

the report which said that alexander kinyua would be of no help to his attorney. he was accused of killing a border back in july. he cut up the victim's body and hate his heart and part of the victim's braifnlt shortly after the arrest, the defense asked that kinyua receive a psychiatric evaluation. the doctors said kinyua could not help with his defense. >> everybody agreed. nobody haddian thing to dispute report, so the status is new that we're on hold until we get some advice from the hospital that his status has changed. >> reporter: he said this determination should not be confused with whether kinyua was responsible at the time. that will be determined much, much later.

roosevelt leftwich, abc2 news. now to a health alert involving the west nile virus. state health officials said a second case has been reported in maryland. officials said the patient is a 70-year-old woman living in the washington metro area. they said her brain is swelling but they don't know if that's a direct result of the virus. last month another case was reported in central maryland. health officials said it is not abnormal to have one or more cases this time of the year. most of us read the ingredient lists on the side of makeup but johnson and johnson has announced some of the products contain dangerous chemicals that will be phased out. they will have it removed from all of their products for babies by the end of the year but those used by adults wouldn't be reformulated until the end of the year 2015. a car accident that kill lad

local woman is just the beginning for a family. what happened next and the legal bat thal follows has been playing out online for quite some time. >> reporter: it's the headline that went viral. my sister paid progressive insurance to defend her killer in court. matt's sister katie was killed in a car crash in walt baltimore maryland. the suv that hit her ran a red light. the 24-year-old was killed instantly. kate thy had a $100,000 insurance policy with progressive. the family was paid $25,000 and thought progressive would pay the rest. they were wrong. >> progressive took the position that my sister was at fault which under maryland law would free them of the obligation. >> reporter: out of a sense of

honor and walls because katie fisher had student loans that had to be paid the family decided to go after the money. in maryland it's against the law to sue an insurance company. so they had to sue the man who killed katy. armed with that then did after prodresssive. >> my sister's insurer sat across the room. their lawyer argued for the defendant in the case, argued that he was not negligent. >> reporter: so outraged he wrote on his blog if you are insured by progressive and they owe you money, they will defend your killer not to pay you. progressive responded with the same tweet over and over saying, in parkts we properly handled the claim within our contractual

obligations. and that, in the eyes of some made matters worse. the tweet has sense been taken down and said he was defended by his insurance company nationwide. there was a question last to who was at fault and a jury decided in the fisher family favor just last week. we respect the verdict and continue to work with the fisher fami to reach a resolution. what mass your message to progressive if they're watching. >> when there's an adjust ter who sits in a room and say this policy has this pay an x amount, should we pay or descrag this out, add this to the calculus. >> keep an eye on that one. matt fisher said his family still has not gotten a check from progressive. about 4100 pounds of soup with meat and clicken are being

week. >> they are getsing a chance of a lifetime to learn more about baseball and a lot or about life. the city and the cal ripken foundation selected the boys to participate in a week long baseball camp. they will join others at cal senior's field and participate in activities beyond baseball. we're talking water sports, hiking. they will meet at the old memorial stadium. have a good time. >> more than 100 volunteers were on hand in east baltimore community school. plenty of planting and focused on hop scotch, four square and other good stuff. the company donated clothing and food as well as some seminars on

job skills. >> building everything from benches to help spruce up planter boxes to really create more of an engaging and environment environment to get kids to come outside, to get kids to be more active. there was a big and emotional day for some of our local soldiers and families in reisterstown. about 30 soldiers who deployed a year ago for "operation new dawn" are back home. it's all about pride. >> i am so proud of my son. to me he's done amazing things. he went from a young man who was kind of timed, shy, stayed to himself, went through basic ait and was deployed. the shirt, the hat says it all. i talk to everybody about what
