downed power lines and going to cause delays around route 25 and liberty road. both eastbound and westbound lanes at white rock road. otherwise things are smooth out there but be mindful of the fog. as you head out on the water you're always looking for fun and relaxation. but that was anything but the case in pasadena last night when boats collided injuring nine people and five children. >> five kids? this, abc2 news' sherrie johnson is here with the latest on what happened and we've also learned a state lawmaker was on the boat. >> reporter: delegate donald dier was on the boat as well as four children who were seriously girardi. i spoke -- injured. i spoke with the supervisor and at last check he was in serious condition. the accident happened last night on the river. nine people were on board two motor boats when they collided

about 7:00 p.m. it caused one of the boats the sink and witnesses say one of the boats was pulling kids with an inflatable tube. >> and they was tubing. so they had a tubal on the back with to -- a tube on the back with to kids on it. they were coming out at a high rate of speed and the boat came and they were coming like this and the boat came and just rammed right into the side of them. towards the front. and the boat that was in the wrong actually split in half and has already sunk. >> reporter: now, so far there was no evidence that alcohol or excessive speed were involved in the collision but that investigation is still ongoing. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. and intense night for police in queen ian's county. an officer shot and killed a panel. it all started when police say that man escaped from the somerset county prison and he broke into a home in centerville. stole a gun and then started shooting at officers and when they were chasing him police

say the man then ran to a nearby farmhouse. that homeowner he heard the commotion and grabbed his gun and then held the suspect until police arrived. police say the man was threatening them and that's when officers shot and killed him. an investigation is still underway into what happened. the 21 train cars that derailed have been hauled away and now the investigation into what went wrong. the ntsb said it's going to be some time before they have a good understanding of what happened monday when the cars derailed. two young women died when the train jumped the tracks and the ntsb has new details about the crash. that's coming up this morning at 5:00. happening tomorrow the alleged gunman in the family research council shooting in washington, d.c. is expected to be arraigned. a grand jury indicted floyd corkins on charges of assault with the intent to kill and transporting a firearm across state lines. police say that corkins walked into the frc's building last week and matters something about not liking the politics

and then shot a guard. authorities say that he is pro same sex marriage while the frc is against it. sentencing is still going forward with the former uva lacrosse player acsed of killing his ex-glfriend. attorneys for orge huguely asked for a new trial saying there we multiple errors before and during the trial. he was found guilty of murdering cockeysville native yeardley love. well, remember what you were doing? one year ago today that things got a little crazy around here and the earth started to shake. >> a 5.8 quake hit east coast and now its epicenter just south of d.c.. a number of buildings and monuments sustained damage and many still being repaired today. >> during a ceremony to repair the national cathedral. if goal is to raise -- the goal is to raise $100,000 by midnight tonight to fix the cracks in the cathedral. >> repairs are underway in the

thank you for joining us morning, the west nile virus outbreak is now considered one of the largest in the united states. so far, more than 1100 cases have been reported. about half of them are in the state of texas. now nationally, we've seen 300 cases of west nile virus around at this time you know of the year. but this time it's much more. and there have been 41 deaths this year alone. experts do think thmild weather, early spring and very hot summer helped statimule mosquito breeding and that spreads the virus. news time now is 4:40 and we could soon learn more about the raid that went down that os

a book reportedly written by ths.e.a.l. who waon the ground in pakistan. the book titled "no easy day" scheduled to be released september 11th. u.s. special operations command has neither reviewed nor approved the material in the book. well, they thought it would be fun, police not so much. a few boys saw flooding rapids as an opportunity and they jumped in. they can be seen cheering and waving noticing down the waters on the air mattress. police quickly stepped in telling the boys they had to get out of the water. no word yet on whether they were cited by police for their escapades. the weather is a big concern in tampa getting ready to host the republican national convention. >> all eyes are going to be on tropical storm isaac. reporter chris trekman has more from tampa and how they're trying to prepare. >> reporter: it's full speed ahead for the republican national convention. despite the potential for

disastrous weather thanks to isaac. mayor bob buckhorn says he is prepared to cancel the rnc if there's any chance public safety is threatened. >> i don't think it's going to be a factor in this particular convention but we are prepared in the event that it is. >> reporter: buckhorn a democrat says he'll pull politics -- put politics aside. they've been preparing for that possibility for months but for the time being, it's a waiting game to see how serious the situation becomes. >> we could have a tropical storm. we could have a category 5. we could have nothing. you know so each of those would cause us to have a different type of response. >> reporter: organizers say they've also been planning for the worst in the event a hurricane strikes the city but exactly where delegates will go and what city the backup convention would be held is a secret. >> i'm not going to speculate. we have contingency plans for a variety ofishes that could -- of issues that could arise but

you can do that again today because it's going to be spectacular out there. plenty of sunshine in the forecast and we can see the cool temperatures once again this morning. 57 degrees in york right now. frederick coming in at 59 degrees. more of the same in winchester. baltimore now 66 degrees and 71 in d.c.. we're feeling good out there this morning and make sure you do take a jacket if you head out and about because you will need it like we have needed et for the past several days. mainly lots of foggy conditions in a lot of spot, visibility is reduced take it easy on the roadways. you can see that on future trend here. we're also watching a coastal system that's going to try to get its act together but it should stay away from us for the most part. but what et could do is throw a few clouds in our direction as we head into tomorrow and the weekend. i think stay dry for the most part. if we do get wet it will be along the eastern shorement maybe some east showers but all in all high pressure is going to do its thing as we head into

the weekend. we will stay mainly dry like today. we look at tropical storm isaac. this is the storm right now, this is the one that already is pushing off towards the west. it moved over the lesser antilles yesterday. now it's heading towards hispaniola and also cuba and then it's going to be making its way as we head into florida. we can see that this the sustained winds now 45 miles per hour moving to the west pretty -- pretty quickly. so west at about 17 and we can see what's going on there, there's that track and you can see the cones. the wide cone there it takes its over florida. so still do believe at this point that florida will get in on that objection. but for -- action, but for today plenty of sunshine in the forecast. back to you guys. all right, time for a quick check of the roads out there and 95 south at eastern avenue. as a remainder traffic still backed up in historic ellicott city due to the train derailment. in sykesville downed power lines and that's now been cleared. slow traffic being reported in dundalk near the francis scott key toll plaza. there are ramp restrictions

news time 4:50. join join. an important recall this morning a. seafood company now yanking some of its smoked salmon products off the shelves because of pockets of -- possibilities of bacteria contamination. it's recalling the wells lee farm brand smoked salmon at b. j.'s wholesale club. this was sold in maryland. no illnesses though have been reported. the us da found at least one indiana farm now linked to a recent salmonella outbreak in cantaloupe. chamberlain farms agreed to stop distributing the melons, almost 200 people have become ill after eating the tainted

cantaloupe. the usda says farms could be connected to the outbreak in other states. the hot weather took a toll on farmers this year. it means driving up costs at the grocery store. >> karin caifa tells us how one bel air garden by wright is doing. >> reporter: hot temperatures, drought conditions, summer has been tough on american households. but food and energy costs are even greater for 27,000 square foot supermarket. >> one of the ways that we're looking to improve our bottom line is by decreasing some of our expensions. >> reporter: baltimore's bell garden buy wright has been locally owned and operated for almost 50 years, raising prices isn't her favorite option. she knows her customers are watching costs too. with energy consultant she looked at these vents pumping cold air and costing cold casual. >> we identified a couple of key areas, our opportunities to improve in the store is. one of them was the general

>> exactly. going to be a hot topic. with the drought and above average temperatures what's winter going to look like? i actually did a blog about that. go and look at the blog and we'll see what's going on. i did my predictions there and no type of snow or rain in the forecast for today and even for the weekend we're looking pretty good. i'm going to keep the trend going for the people that love the sunshine. what's going on right now as we talk about glen ell. the temperature 62 degrees right now. take it easy out and about on the roadways this morning. and you always want to put the low beams on instead of the high beams when you put the low beams on you can see less of the fog and more of the road. we do have that dew point coming in at 61 degrees and once again when the dew point and the temperature are close together, that's when you are dealing with some visibility issues. now 69 degrees is the temperature in chesapeake beach this morning with the humidity coming in at 92% and dew point at 67. the winds are light and they'll

pretty much stay that way throughout the day. and emmettsburg temperature is at 61 degrees right now with the dew point coming in at 59. we look at maryland's most powerful radar as of now and we are dry. we have all five sweeps on scanning the skies trying to see if we can find any type of precip but nothing for today. a nice day out there and make sure you do enjoy it. this is for today. temperature coming in at 87 degrees and we should be at 85 now for this time of the year. no complaints whatsoever. a little warmer than yesterday. patchy fog will develop again late and then by tomorrow more sunshine. showers east possible. but it will be mainly a dry day as we go into time. and here's a check of the seven day forecast for you as we have that morning fog today and then showers possible east as we go through the weekend. and we will be more humid as we head into monday. over to you guys. all right, we're a few minutes away from 5:00 right now and let's take a live look at traffic right now. you're looking at 695. pretty slow out there. we don't want you to leave us but this would be
