baltimore washington expressway an accident there. more this smooting on the shooting a-- morning on the shooting at the eastern shore. he first fired on sheriff's deputies and he was shot and killed then. abc2 news' sherrie johnson is here with the details and what information is officers releasing this morning. >> reporter: well, charlie police tell us they were ambushed by a suspect who came out of a field and started shooting. the man escaped from a prerelease center in somerset county. he broke into a home and stole a gun and then started shooting at the officers chasing him. the suspect ran into a bean field which was on 301 at shell cross farm lane in queen anne's county. he surprised them coming out of the bean field and he ran into a nearby farmhouse. the owner heard the commotion and grabbed his gun and held the suspect until police arrived. >> states he is not going back to prisonment you're going to have to kill me. he backs away from the officer

and continually walks away and continuing to -- ignore commands. he then reaches behind his back in a threatening manner as if he's reaching for something. the officer is then in fear for his life and fires striking the suspect. ems personnel respond but he is pronounced deceased at the scene. >> reporter: none of the officers were hurt at the scene and an investigation is into the incident is nouns way. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. well, there's still time to figure out what caused that deadly train crash that detailment that happened in ellicott city. and this as concerns are raised about the safety of the tracks, abc2 news linda so spoke to howard county executive this morning. >> reporter: workers are back on the track the morning and you can see they're using heavy machinery to remove the last of the derailed train cars here. csx will work to figure out a

better way to secure the area. people who live and work around the area say it's a problem because they see young people walking along the tracks and up on the bridge often. elizabeth nass and her friend rose mayr were both killed on the bridge when it dumped coal on top of them. thorp buried urn -- they were buried under the crushing weight. they plan to examine the girls' cell phones which were used to publish pictures on twitter just moments before the derailment. they say it's going to be a lengthy process and they plan to remain on the scene at least through today. we've also learned csx plans to resume train operations along this track as soon as they get those derailed train cars removed. now funeral arrangements have been set for the two college girls, a viewing will be held today for elizabeth nass. her funeral is tomorrow at the church of the resurrection at ellicott city. on friday, there will be two viewings for rose mayr at the

okay, "good morning maryland," thank you for joining us. i'm megan pringle. >> and i'm charlie crowson. this is your abc2 news to go and we begin with a check of the forecast with lynette. >> good morning, charlie and megan. good morning all of you. ellicott city coming in at 66 degrees right now. so we're going to be seeing pretty good sunshine as we go throughout the dayful those winds are -- day. those winds are on the light side and the dew point at 61. what we are dealing with once again we have reduced visibility so some patchy fog and you can see that in easton this morning. 65 degrees and that dew point at 65. so that air is saturated and we're at 64 degrees right now in jessup and that dew point coming in at 58. outside in urbanna with the sun/cloud mix. a gorgeous day outside. make sure you grab that jacket though. not the rain gear, the jacket for today. maryland's most powerful radar is dry right now. and we can see as we go through your hour by hour forecast this is what it looks like that

morning fog a few clouds by lunchtime. but that temperature by the afternoon, 87 degrees. over to you. all right, imbibing check of the traffic on this thursday morning for you. that's 83 at shawan road a number of accident out there. one of them in college park. that's down near fiji county. in harford one highway is closed that's 165 on the northbound and southbound because of an accident there. also in baltimore near st. paul at east 25th street, so backups out there as you again your commute on this thursday morning. the ends of the week until they clean up the wreck in historic ellicott city and it could take even longer before we knee what that hassed the crash that -- know what caused the trash that killed the two young girls, abc2 news linda so has more on the safety problems being brought up. >> reporter: and workers are back on the track this morning removing the last of the derailed train cars. you can see they're using the heavy cranes to lift them you have and haul them away on the

truck. joining us this morning is county executive ken allman. can you talk to us about the safety and what's going to be done as far as working with csx to perhaps secure this area a little better? >> sure, they had a community safety expert here over the last couple of days taking a look at areas that can be made more and you are. moving forward. you know we have to remember that csx owns all the infrastructure, the rail line so we want to work with them and make sure that we minimize the chance that a tragedy like this can ever happen again. >> reporter: and we've talked to people wholy and work in the area. they feel a lot of young people on the tracks and what's your message to anyone who may be watching? >> i don't want to over blow it. i'm here all the time. it's not like you see people hanging out there all the time but certainly kids can get up there and people can get up there. you have to work to get up there but you can get up there and we want to make sure again we minimize the chances of a tragedy like this ever happening again. our thoughts and hearts continue to go to the family's victims there. when

two viewings are set for rose mayr tomorrow at the harry whiskey funeral home from 3:00 to 5:00 and then 7:00 to 9:00. her funeral is saturday morning and the information is on the website and also how you can donate to a scholarship fund. go to abc2news.com. more this morning on the boat crash that happened in pasadena. nine people were injured including a delegate. don dwyer and several children on board the boats. abc2 news' sherrie johnson has been following the story working the phones and what can you tell us? >> reporter: megan, delegate dwyer was one of the people on bet as well as several children who were seriously injured in the collision of two motor boats. now i spoke to the nursing supervisor this morning and at last check, he was in serious condition at shock trauma. and six others with also at different -- are also at different hospitals. it happened lastnitis on the magothy river and nine people including four adults and five

children were on board the boats when they collided about 7:00 p.m. it caused one of the boats so wink and one of the boats was pulling kids with an inflatable tube. three nearby boats responded to pull those injured from the water taking most of them to the fibson island area. one adult and one child refused treatment at the scene. so far there was no evidence that alcohol or speed were involved in the collision. but that investigation is ongoing. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. it is the worst outbreak of west nile virus that the country has seen in many years. that's according to the new numbers that were just released from the cdc. yesterday, more than 11 cases have been reported in -- 1100 cases have been reported in 38 states, since the disease was first detected in the united states that was back in 1999. officials do believe the warble weather could have created the conditions necessary for mosquitoes which this is a

mosquito born illness to transfer it to humans. did have -- kids have a lot of rue tones the get use to. one of them should be a great homework rhee tune. health officials say the key to any homework schedule is structure. they suggest you get your kids to do their homework as soon as they get home from school. you want to establish a distraction free area for them to work. and if the homework session is long you may want to consider a five minute break for the children. they can then refresh. now if your kids are going to baltimore public schools you may want to take them by the mayor's back to school rally. also enjoy some lye music and performances. the rally runs from 3:00 to 7:00 at the city schools plaza on north avenue. bring your child's shot records with you. five things you may want to know on this thursday, lawyers for james holmes will be back in colorado in a courtroom today. they're waiting to hear from a judge on whether or not cameras will be allowed for future hearings in that case against

holmes. he's accused of the shooting spree that killed 12 in a movie theater in colorado. first lady michelle obama on the road today and scheduled to meet with the relatives of the sikh temple shooting in milwaukee. six people were killed this month and mrs. obama plans to meet privately with the families of the wounded and killed. and as of midnight tonight, casey anthony no longer having to report to her probation officer and can leave florida without permission. anthony has been on probation for check fraud charges. unrelated to the 2008 disappearance of her daughter, caylee. her lawyer says he plans to -- she plans to remain in florida. where were you a year ago today when the east coast shook? the virginia centered earthquake rattled up the nevers audiotape the way -- nerves all the way up the coast forcing spleuchans in emergency response plans. what are you are doing when the earthquake hit? all right, after taking a year break, tv mobile bringing back the unlimited data plan.
