the morning hours. and they as we go more into the afternoon, things will dry out and we will get clearing but this is what we are working with this morning as we sled into harford -- slide into harford county around bel air. we have showers coming in across the area. heaviest rain towards dealtate maryland pennsylvania line and showers around jaretsville and sliding -- jarrettsville and across i-83 wet weather and baltimore county and carroll county and westminster. tawnytown getting in on the action this morning. so as you head out, make sure to have the rain gear an umbrella. you will need it as the kids head off to school. temperatures are at 73 degrees right now in catonsville and churchville. easton at 74 degrees. and as we look at the hour by hour forecast, you will wake up at 6 this morning, 5 temperatures at 75. morning around 9:00, the temperature at 80. showers possible and by lunchtime partly cloudy and we dry things out with the temperature coming in right

around 85. let's check the traffic with mike masco. >> reporter: good morning. just construction delays this morning a few road closures due to the construction and west of town, we find one spot. i just -- just towards the east of 940 heading along 695, you will notice there's construction out there this morning. so expect speed to be tied up. some in fact there's the one construction delay two lanes closed on 7 a northbound at 9:40. another delay south and west of town making are way towards the baltimore national pike. and 695 split that's right near 40 westbound, you find construction going on right now. outside at 695 old court road, showing not a bad ride thus far this morning. we will go over to mdot and show out695 approaching -- you the 695 approaching the harford road. another check on traffic in less than ten minutes. 4:32. this is not how the first week of school is supposed to go.

this morning, students, teachers and parents will start the school day praying for a teen shot in the cafeteria at perry hall high school. linda so is live with what they can expect as they head back to school today. >> reporter: when students show up later this morning, expect to see a lot more police, security and counselors on hand to a help student as they go throughout the day. also we have learned later this morning county police chief jim johnson will hold a briefing to give us the latest on the investigation. that's expected to happen around 11 this morning. the alleged shooter 15-year-old student has not been formally charged. it's unclear whether he will be charged as a juvenile or an adult. the motive is unclear but police say the victim was not targeted. the associated press is reporting the suspect's father says his son was bullied at school. we are told the 17-year-old student who was shot in the cafeteria is in critical condition at shock trauma. students say things could is been worse had it not been for

out under the hash tag of perry hall and this is the power of social media. we are seeing this. much of the information about the school shooting was coming out through places like facebook and twitter. also, one person this morning that guidance counselor beinghailed a hero. >> he is charley. that school employee who stepped in and stopped the shotter. linda mentioned this earlier. he's identified by students and friends as jesse wasmer a guidance counselor. students say he stepped in to break up fights at the school before. this is not the first time he has stepped in to end a violent situation. and now a facebook page has been set up thanking him and right now it has more than 13,000 likes. >> when yo hear of a tramming -- you hear of a trank i did like -- tragedy like this and a hero doing something like this it balances everything back out. >> witness say that other teachers also helped subduty gunmen and their names have not

been leaked but we will keep you posted as we get more information. >> some students are doing their part to heeling with the healing -- help with the healing process putting together a rally to help everyone move forward and spread antibullying message. >> we are organizing at friday on 8 we hope everyone will come out and bring a candle. there will be people raising money. someone else is making stickers. we are planning on making ribbons you know just to get everyone together. >> now one of the reasons for the rally is because bullying is believed to have played a part in the shooting yesterday. the rally is set to take place at 8:30 friday night. money raised will go towards the victims at the school. 4:37. another baltimore county student is working to recover. this student has injuries from being hit by a car. it happened in wood lawn the first day of school a 13-year- old was crossing the street when he was hit by a car. anita taylor and her husband

were a few feet away from their home. >> something said get up and look out and i saw the young manlaying in the street i went back to get a blanket to cover him and keep him from going into shock. >> he had to be flown to the hospitalbut we were told his injuries are not considered life-threatening. those who go to school in anne arundel county will have their first day of class after a long summer break. anne arundel county has a two- day back to school process. some started yesterday and others will begin today. in the wake of the shooting, in peryea hall, the question for parents is what the school is doing to keep their children safe. we will keep you updated throughout the morning on how students and parents are preparing for the new school year in anne arundel county. >> let's get a check on your weather. >> all right. let's talk about what's going on right now in terms of temperatures because we are warm and also sticky. very humid this morning. as we look at temperatures close do 8-- close to 80 and

in a lot of spots. this is courtesy of a cold front that will move through going through today. but ahead of it, we are humid outside and warm right now. showers coming down around harford and baltimore and carroll county. as you head out, grab the rain gear. you will need it this morning. you will be able to put it away in the afternoon. looking at the winds, they are on the light side but they are coming out of the southwest direction. once they turn to the north and west, you will know the cold front pushed through and it will do so as we go into the afternoon. that is front we are waiting to push through the area. behind it high pressure will build in nicely. we will see several days of some sunny weather. but in the meantime, isaac is strengthening as we go through the gulf and it is trying to find an eye a. well defined eye that has not been with the system. being see it is trying to wrap up. we see the outer bands pushing into new orleans also mobile and also panama city. so florida, the panhandle of florida getting in on some of that wet weather. we can see up to about 12

inches locally about 18 inch of some rain with the system. tropical storm isaac the winds sustained at about 70 miles an hour as of now. category one is what it looks like as it will make landfall as we go later into the evening and as we go into tomorrow morning. it's going to -- we will keep our eyes peeled on that. but let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with mike masco good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i one incident -- one incident to talk about. this is a little after 95. be aware of that this morning. and again that will tie you up on the wilson avenue. speeds have been reduced. and talking construction. we are up towards the west of pikesville seeing construction along 695 between security boulevard and 795. going down to the south near glen burnie, some construction delays along 97 exit 13 and exit 12 being affected on the southbound lanes. outside we go for a live shot. we will show you this is 695 at

wilkins avenue. so far so good this morning. and another shot i will show you a clear sailing commute this farce at -- thus far at 695 at harford road. if you are going from -- no drive times we will do it later. guys. >> all right something to look forward to. 4:48. tropical storm isaac could become a hurricane and make landfall in louisiana as early as today, this comes 7 years after hurricane ated the region as you can see by the bumper to bumper traffic, people are trying to get out of there as quickly as possible. a mandatory evacuation not in effect for new or loons but people there -- new orleans but people were told to leave w so many people leaving the road, one gas station has completely ran out of gas. >> as pool along the gulf coast get ready for isaac, they are using all they can to make sure they are behind things that are safe and well secured in st. bernard parish. inmates are make sandbags and pack them into trucks sent into

the flood prone air yays. some inmates have been moved to get out of the isaac's path. >> military bases are sending planes to arkansas for safekeeping. base in little rock received hundreds of airmen and dozens of aircraft. they were evacuated from floridain the panhandle and mississippi. the national weather service want to learn from isaac. they have been launching extra weather balloons to get data on the storm. the agency wants to know the storm's wind direction as well as speed. the information and data collected from other weather balloons in the region will be examined to predict the path of the storm. the gulf coast is preparing for isaac and it's in line for new orleans that could barrel in exactly 7 years to the day since katrina destroyed much of the gulf coast. meteorologist shea ryan joins us with a report on how things are going and we saw a live shot of the french quarter down there. usually pretty alive this time of night. not so much today. >> reporter: that's exactly

what we have seen out here. it's been very quiet people are willing to not take risk and you can see the winds are starting to pick up. they will calm down almost to two or three miles per hour and they pick up quickly. the airport has been reporting 33 myles-mile-per-hour wind gusts out here. i am a -- miles -- 33-mile-per- hour wind gusts out here. i'm meteorologist so i carry this with me. when we first got out here about an hour and a half ago it was gusts 12 miles an hour. we are seeing the winds picking up. and, of course, the worst is still ahead of us. but again, as we walked around we have seen a few people on the streets the stores have been boarding up. not all but quite a few. but it seems like people are being smart about this and taking caution probably more so

than what most folks or most areas would when you've got a cat 1 storm headed your way. shea ryan live from new orleans, back to you. >> before we let you go this morning, talk if you would about the direction of the storm. many people saying a westbound storm hitting west of new orleans could pose a problem with the surge wall expected to be around 10 feet. >> reporter: yes, that's true. when you are not northeast caught rant of the storm, -- caught rant of the storm when -- quadrant of the storm when you are the front of it you will get the maximum impact not only from -- you can see how the winds are picking up,-- not only from storm surge but the potential for tornadoes is also on the highest on that side of the storm and because of the geography and behind me is the french quarter and beyond that we have lake pontchartrain and we know we had a lot of issues

with levees during katrina. and the question is will the levees hold. how strong will isaac be before it makes landfall. and the story i think will unfold here in the next 24 hours there are a lot of questions, the great news is people are being more cautious and not taking risk. so hopefully, this will be be a much better situation -- this will be a much beer situation in a couple days than seven years ago. >> shea ryan live in new orleans. stay safe and we will check in throughout -- in throughout the course of the morning. >> reporter: thank you. social media giants like facebook and twitter see great opportunities in the campaign. so much so they are make their presence known at conventions. so we will look at how facebook is getting into politics. plus, textbooks can be a huge financial burden on college students. but you don't have to spend a fortune at the bookstore. we have advice of getting the most out of the textbooks and cutting costs. we will be right back. clear clear had wççñçñ
