and it's mock along. here's drive times and 95 southbound at 659 downtown that's a 15-minute commute. guys. we begin with a continued fight against west nile virus. >> this is becoming more and more of a story almost now 90 deaths including a illness in delaware and the nation's capital. >> we have tips on what to do toprotect sur self and family. >> reporter: it's been a bad year for mosquitoes in the washington area. a hot, dry spell followed by heat and high humidity and mosquitoes thrive. the health department says there has been a death linked to the disease an elderly male from northeast dc. the department also said an elderly female in southeast was hospitalized for west nile. the department would provide no more information. >> some of the things could be frightening. >> i feel sorry for the person who died. >> reporter: we talked to people in northeast like thomas lewis who wore a jacket even in today's heat. >> trying to stay away from

mosquitoes. >> reporter: how do you do that? >> don't go out too much where they hang out. only go out when i have to. >> reporter: at brookline hardware they stock up array of sprays and devices to kill mosquitoes. >> this's been an influx and people are concern. >> reporter: she gives out lots of advice. >> for people to remember to go around and look for standing water and drain them. flowerpots a. lot of times, you may not need to have that sauce your under the flowerpot take that away so no water collects. >> reporter: empeople are fatal -- many people are fatalistic about it. >> i don't spend too much time worried about it. we have 10 mosquitoes bites so if we are going to get it, we are going to get it. >> that's one attitude to take. however there have been 13 cases of west nile reported here in maryland. again that was sam ford reporting. news time 6:34. crews in baltimore county spent the evening spraying for mosquitoes in the fight against

west nile virus. there's been nearly 2,000 people across the u.s. infected by the virus. and now word of a confirmed case in baltimore county in the millford millionaire yeah. >> the main goal is to get rid of the breeding fight so we reduce the number of mosquitoes. >> west nile virus cannot be spread from person to person but through mosquitoes only and to protect yourself, a few tips to keep in mind. the cdc recommends long pants and sleeves during dusk and dawn hours. that's the prime time for mosquitoes to be around. >> they recommend wearing insect repellant and installing and repairing screams on doors and windows and getting rid of the any standing water around the home that kiddy pool, dump it out. >> abc works for you. we have a expect section at the website devoted to west niles read up on simpkins tons at -- symptoms. >> a traffic alert this morning. starting at 9 this morning, you

can expect delays on charles street which will be closed from northern parkway to cold spring lane. this is due to the funeral for officer forest taylor. taylor passed away last week after being seriously hurt in a crash from earlier in the year. he was a 17-year veteran on the police force. after a service at the cathedral of mary our queen he will belaid to rest in annapolis. all right. flags are flown at half-staff in honor of a harford county sheriff deputy killed yesterday in a car crash. corporal charles liwato lost control -- licato lost control and struck a guardrail before slamming into a tree. this was early yesterday morning. 14 years on the force. the sheriff dfs plans to drape the headquarters -- department plans to drape the head quarters and cars and badges in black in memory of the corps. this is a story that rocked many of us in maryland and around the nation for that matter the first day of school.

early yesterday morning at the age of 87. modell brought our beloved ravens here from cleveland in 1996. he hoisted the lombardi trophy as owner in 2001 and his influence was bigger than just football. he and his wife pat donated millions of dollars to charity in the city including the seed school and johns hopkins and kennedy krieger ins tiew. he impacted the nfl -- institute. he impacted the nfl but techly with number 52. >> one of the most awesome man i met in my life and for me to know him, the know the guy had a plan for me to meet the manlike that with all the impact he had on the world. so, it's hard losing someone that powerful with that much influence. >> reporter: now the lombardi trophy will be right next to his casket on the field and modell died of natural causes at the age of 87. once again that tribute will be held at m and t bank stadium tomorrow saturday from 11 a.m.

to 1 p.m. here at m and t bank stadium. reporting live, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. maryland state trooper is making a traffic stop when he was hit by a tractor trailer caught on camera. it happened to david avila in june. he was going to let the driver go with a warning but a trackor trailer driving too close be careful watching it's graphic. good lord. it slammed into the police cruiser and hit him. >> i guess i heard the rumble strip but just before the vehicle came across or came towards me, -- i took a quick glance over my shoulder and i saw it. >> unbelievable. that trooper is still in physical therapy for the injuries received. it's hard to watch we know. the driver who hit him broke the move over law and it's for emergency responders. he wants drivers to know that they must drop the speeds to 10 miles or pull over to the left when seeing an emergency vehicle on the shoulder.

the tractor trailer driver paid a fine for breaking the law. 6:49. health news for you this morning. a mammogram aimed at finding breast cancer might actually raise the chances of developing it in young women who have genes that put them at a higher risk for the disease. the added radiation from mammograms might be especiallyharmful to them and an mri probably a safer method for screening women under 30 who carry the gene. the study can't prove a link between the radiation and breast cancer. consumer alert, prepaid credit cards may soon be budget friendly but can be misleading. some hit you with as many as 15 fees and reloadable cards don't require a bank account and work like debit cards. there's a lack of federal regulation on the cards and consumer financial protection biewrgo now look into the prepaid -- bureau now looking into the prepaid markets and forcing them to clarify the fees. you have your choice of colors to wear today.
