friend. we will get the latest from the hospital as they await the rival of their first child a baby girl and, of course, they will remember the day forever. and one of the things they will remember is the weather. >> i will wonder if charley will be as cool as he tries to come across with the baby thing. >> are you kidding? et mush. >> he will be a great -- he will mush. >> he will be a great dad. >> fabulous weather to bring the child home from the hospital. a little cool this morning. but going throughout the day, fabulous. get out and enjoy. let's talk about what's going on right now because we have the temperature coming in at 52 degrees in jessup. 55 in camp springs and frederick 46 degrees. looks like frederick is where everything is happening. so temperatures a lot chillier there and also we are dealing with patchy fog this morning with the humidity at about 100%. that means that the temperature and the dew point are the exact same for the air being saturated and you are getting the fog at the ground. maryland's most powerful radar not picking up on a whole lot this morning and that continues throughout the day. and we still have several days of dry weather ahead of us.

and today is one of them. as we will see plenty of sunshine going through the morning hours. it will continue cool going into 10:00 this morning and then by lunchtime we will warm up nicely. 76 degrees. don't forget the sun shades as you head out the door. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. patchy fog to talk about this morning. >> reporter: yes. you want to be extra careful traveling in carroll county or frederick county. but conditions are improving a little bit here on interstate 70 east of 144. you will want to reduce the speeds and please be extra careful if you are traveling in the areas. if you are heading out to the beltway, here's a live look at the west side at liberty road. looking at an 11-minute ride. no delays on the outer loop from 795 down towards 95. the beltway in great shape from parkville all the way up to towson and the northeast corridor of 95 no problems to report there. if you are traveling southbound to the white marsh area from route 43 to 695, you are looking at a 4-minute ride. that's your abc2 timesaver

traffic. megan over to you. >> thanks. when you send a kid off to school you want to know they are going to be safe. recent incidents involving guns at school they are raying concerns for parents and they are prompting changes this morning. abc2 news linda so is live at the middle school this morning. and i know they have been discussing changes because of the recent incidents so what are they talking about. >> reporter: in the coming weeks, you will see more school resource officers at many middle and high schools in baltimore county. also those officers will be given hand-held metal detecting wands to be used if they feel like something is suspicious. these changes prompted by the recent gun incidents involving students bringing guns to schools. yesterday, police say a middle schooler here in essex brought a loaded semiautomatic gun to school and waved it at the teacher and classmates before pointing it at himself. the teacher wrestled it away and there was a incident where

son and her nephew come over please check it out. but they found above the stairs still leaves everybody in the house with chills. >> and that's when they found him the guy sleeping in the heating unit. he had packed coats and stuff in the heating unit. >> he was living in her attic. the man actually ran down the stairs and out of the house. she was calling police. the unwelcomed resident is actually not a stranger. he had come to the home before and helped remodeled it. police don't know how long the man had been living there but they say that they couldn't have been more than two weeks. that's because they say he was in jail for unrelated crimes. an 8-year-old boy in upstate new york took his more's car for a joyride and could barely see over the steering wheel but luckily no one was hurt. andrew hopped into the driver's seat of his more's car and decided i am going -- mother's car and decided to take it for a spin.

he made it half a mile away from home and went back. he turned around but that's when he ran into some trouble. naive. >> -- >> trouble navigating through streets. >> i was trying to come into the street and i jumped the curb and i got really scared. >> andrew ran over a stop sign, hate hydrant and -- hit a hydrant and crashed into the neighbor's yard. his parents say they are hiding the keys out of his sight. ever got a speed camera tickets? a lot of you are nodding. you probably have because they seem to show up in mailboxs all the time. so it's no surprise they bring in a lot of money but just how much do they bring in? what happens in vegas sometimes ends up on the news especially when it looks like mother nature is the one tearing things up in the city. we will look at what's going on there ahead. what does fall smell like?

all right. heavy thunderstorms turned las vegas streets into rivers. this is tuesday. this is what it looked like in the middle of the busy intersection right there in sin city. firefighters and helicopter crews rescued more than 20 people stuck in the cars

because of the rising flood waters. water levels were several feet high in some areas. the storm knocked out power to thousands of customers for nearly two hours yesterday. it's hard to get in trouble in vegas when the streets look like that. >> exactly. but they got in trouble of their own driving through the flooded roadways. luckily for today, things will dry out and they will get a chance for cleanup and have another trech of-- stretch of dry weather which is what they are used to. we have wet weather across the middle of the nation accompanied by a cold front that's going to slide into our area going through the weekend. but in the meantime, this is what we are going to be basking in. sunshine throughout the day. bus stop forecast has fog and cool temperatures and will be nice this afternoon coming in at 81. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. well the fog is really starting to dissipate in carol and -- carroll and frederick county. but be careful in the areas. and traffic is starting to pick up on the west side of the beltway. you want to expect some volume

five things to know heading out the door this morning for a third day in row classrooms in chicago will be empty. the chicago teachers union says no deal has been reached in ongoing talks with negotiators from the chicago public schools. more than 25,000 teachers are on strike for the first time in a quarter of a century. the national farmers union scheduled to hold a rally to urge congress to pass a farm bill before september 30th. it mate be november before the u.s. congress complete the $500 billion farm bill as lawmakers

can't agree on how much to cut support to farmers or food stamps for the poor. the obama administration says that the government has already approved some of the 72,000 applications from young illegal immigrants speaking -- seeking to avoid deportation and get a work permit. those who would be eligible to apply came to the united states before they turned 16 years old. new census information is expected to be released today. the census bureau will announce findint from the2011 annual report income poverty and health insurance coverage in the united states. -- and arnold palmer received the congressional gold medal today. he is generally regarded as one of the greatest players in men's professional golf. he won 7 major championships in his long career. a big day for baltimore city schools. today, the foundation hosts a grand opening of the first three school libraries and this morning abc2 news education

reporter sherrieionis here with more. that's something students need but we don't think about it often when we think about schools. >> reporter: that's right. something they definitely needed especially baltimore city public schools. today we are at thomas johnson elementary middle school here in south baltimore. you know what, the sign says it all welcome. you know, today is the grand unveiling. this is just one of the three that will be unveiled today. this morning, i have the principal here of the school. he is here with me james tell me how important is this project for your school and other schools? >> well, he think this library is incred -- i think this library is incredibly important. the students will have a beautiful space and library. 4,000 new books and 4 macintosh computers and interactive work stations. they are going to get so many things they didn't have before. and it is a great thing for the great students. >> reporter: now it's no secret that you know a lot of the baltimore city -- city schools

have renovations and restructuring going on. leaf walk elementary school had phase one of the new renovation project. so it's no secret they need upgrades and so how exciting is this for you to be having this unveiling at your school today? >> it's true, baltimore city is really working on projects to improve the buildings in our school district. and i can easily say that our library will be one of the most beautiful libraries that anyone will visit. so it is a great thing for the students to have that kind of a library. not only will they be more enticed to read more often, but also they are going to have a lot of pride i believe in their school because of this library. >> reporter: i mean, the before pictures and the after pictures it's a chance to go up and tour and it's just amazing. i mean it makes you want to go in and sit down and curl up and read a book and learn. >> the previous library was a very base he can library -- basic library. it was dull with colors and the books were getting to be a

little dated, and with the new library we have new books and a beautiful space. >> reporter: thanks so much for taking time out and congratulations to you and your students. wonderful library. the grand opening starts today at 9 a.m. to 10:30. the governor will be here and the lieutenant governor will be here. also, baltimore city be public schools c etch o will be here. an exciting time. three new libraries unveiled for baltimore city public schools. reporting live in south baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. some of the best and bridest walked through the did -- brightest walked through the halls of johns hopkins university. and the university rankings has come out with the top 100 universities in the world and john hopkins is 16 on list. at number 1, m.i.t. that took the top spot from the university of cambridge into the uk which fell to number 2. and stevenson university has it's recognition to be proud of

listed as one of the up and commerce by u.s. news and world report. it is come in just under the 19 regional schools to be begin the designation up and commerce. they are recognized for the- vattive changes for academics and student -- for the innovative changes for acad --academics and student life. according to the mayor's office, the city made 19 million dollars in revenue all from tickets issued by the speed cameras in a year. that is 4.2 million more than was budgeted. officials say that they plan to spend that money for the additional traffic projcts so i know that's news no one wants to hear. i don't know if you got one but it's like man, they got me. >> i got one. >> you did? >> they got me. all right. let's talk about the temperatures right now.

we are chilly this morning in stevenson. 51 degrees. 52 in churchville and 50 in rockville. westminster at 59 and dealing with patchy fog around that area. 55 right now in centerville. easton at 54 and good morning cambridge. you are at 58 degrees. now we look at future trend, high pressure is in control once again of this weather. that's going to provide sinking air and you have sinking air and don't get the cloud and if you don't have the clouds you won't get rain. we will see rain in the forecast as we go into the beginning of the weekend. and it's going to be courtesy of this cold front that's going to slide off toward the east. and the good news is though it will be out of here so it looks like sunday we will have a dry day so looks like a 50-50 looking weekend. we have tropical storm nadine strengthening and sustained wind at 45 miles an hour. and it is moving to the north northwest at about 16 miles an hour and it is staying away from the u.s. for today, temperatures coming in at 81 degrees mostly sunny and warm. 56 degrees clear again and cool this evening.

thanks for joining us a bus monitor bullied by children is 700,000 dollars richer. do you remember this story. karen klein is from upstate new york and she accepted a check from a canadian supporter out may remember back in june, she was bullied by a group of boys riding on a bust. whole thing recorded and put on youtube it was heart breaking to watch. it turns out one of the millions who saw it and says he got to do something. he launched an online campaign and his goal was to raise 500,000 dollars. the goal was met and then some. it was met in few hours but the donation kept coming from all over the world. >> it's no idea. i didn't expect anything close
