and today is one of them. as we will see plenty of sunshine going through the morning hours. it will continue cool going into 10:00 this morning and then by lunchtime we will warm up nicely. 76 degrees. don't forget the sun shades as you head out the door. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. patchy fog to talk about this morning. >> reporter: yes. you want to be extra careful traveling in carroll county or frederick county. but conditions are improving a little bit here on interstate 70 east of 144. you will want to reduce the speeds and please be extra careful if you are traveling in the areas. if you are heading out to the beltway, here's a live look at the west side at liberty road. looking at an 11-minute ride. no delays on the outer loop from 795 down towards 95. the beltway in great shape from parkville all the way up to towson and the northeast corridor of 95 no problems to report there. if you are traveling southbound to the white marsh area from route 43 to 695, you are looking at a 4-minute ride. that's your abc2 timesaver

traffic. megan over to you. >> thanks. when you send a kid off to school you want to know they are going to be safe. recent incidents involving guns at school they are raying concerns for parents and they are prompting changes this morning. abc2 news linda so is live at the middle school this morning. and i know they have been discussing changes because of the recent incidents so what are they talking about. >> reporter: in the coming weeks, you will see more school resource officers at many middle and high schools in baltimore county. also those officers will be given hand-held metal detecting wands to be used if they feel like something is suspicious. these changes prompted by the recent gun incidents involving students bringing guns to schools. yesterday, police say a middle schooler here in essex brought a loaded semiautomatic gun to school and waved it at the teacher and classmates before pointing it at himself. the teacher wrestled it away and there was a incident where

a student brought a rifeel to school and shot another student cafeteria. for parents, the ideal of a hand-held metal detector when suspicions are raised is a tough sell. >> i really don't like it. it makes me uncomfortable. >> it may deter who would think they would have guns in the schools. >> reporter: now the superintendent of county schools here says they are doing a comprehensive study that may bring about more changes to school security. linda so, abc2 news. if you are a parent, you want to talk about this. we want to know what you think about security at schools. do you think metal key tethers are the -- detectors are the answer? head to the facebook fan page and weigh in. we want to know your thoughts. time for news around the nation. a south carolina woman found something unexpected in her home she shares with her children. you see on saturday, she just put her kids to bed and that's when she heard some stomping coming from the attic the area above her room. well thinking it was an animal up there she called her older

son and her nephew come over please check it out. but they found above the stairs still leaves everybody in the house with chills. >> and that's when they found him the guy sleeping in the heating unit. he had packed coats and stuff in the heating unit. >> he was living in her attic. the man actually ran down the stairs and out of the house. she was calling police. the unwelcomed resident is actually not a stranger. he had come to the home before and helped remodeled it. police don't know how long the man had been living there but they say that they couldn't have been more than two weeks. that's because they say he was in jail for unrelated crimes. an 8-year-old boy in upstate new york took his more's car for a joyride and could barely see over the steering wheel but luckily no one was hurt. andrew hopped into the driver's seat of his more's car and decided i am going -- mother's car and decided to take it for a spin.

five things to know heading out the door this morning for a third day in row classrooms in chicago will be empty. the chicago teachers union says no deal has been reached in ongoing talks with negotiators from the chicago public schools. more than 25,000 teachers are on strike for the first time in a quarter of a century. the national farmers union scheduled to hold a rally to urge congress to pass a farm bill before september 30th. it mate be november before the u.s. congress complete the $500 billion farm bill as lawmakers

reporter sherrieionis here with more. that's something students need but we don't think about it often when we think about schools. >> reporter: that's right. something they definitely needed especially baltimore city public schools. today we are at thomas johnson elementary middle school here in south baltimore. you know what, the sign says it all welcome. you know, today is the grand unveiling. this is just one of the three that will be unveiled today. this morning, i have the principal here of the school. he is here with me james tell me how important is this project for your school and other schools? >> well, he think this library is incred -- i think this library is incredibly important. the students will have a beautiful space and library. 4,000 new books and 4 macintosh computers and interactive work stations. they are going to get so many things they didn't have before. and it is a great thing for the great students. >> reporter: now it's no secret that you know a lot of the baltimore city -- city schools

have renovations and restructuring going on. leaf walk elementary school had phase one of the new renovation project. so it's no secret they need upgrades and so how exciting is this for you to be having this unveiling at your school today? >> it's true, baltimore city is really working on projects to improve the buildings in our school district. and i can easily say that our library will be one of the most beautiful libraries that anyone will visit. so it is a great thing for the students to have that kind of a library. not only will they be more enticed to read more often, but also they are going to have a lot of pride i believe in their school because of this library. >> reporter: i mean, the before pictures and the after pictures it's a chance to go up and tour and it's just amazing. i mean it makes you want to go in and sit down and curl up and read a book and learn. >> the previous library was a very base he can library -- basic library. it was dull with colors and the books were getting to be a

we are chilly this morning in stevenson. 51 degrees. 52 in churchville and 50 in rockville. westminster at 59 and dealing with patchy fog around that area. 55 right now in centerville. easton at 54 and good morning cambridge. you are at 58 degrees. now we look at future trend, high pressure is in control once again of this weather. that's going to provide sinking air and you have sinking air and don't get the cloud and if you don't have the clouds you won't get rain. we will see rain in the forecast as we go into the beginning of the weekend. and it's going to be courtesy of this cold front that's going to slide off toward the east. and the good news is though it will be out of here so it looks like sunday we will have a dry day so looks like a 50-50 looking weekend. we have tropical storm nadine strengthening and sustained wind at 45 miles an hour. and it is moving to the north northwest at about 16 miles an hour and it is staying away from the u.s. for today, temperatures coming in at 81 degrees mostly sunny and warm. 56 degrees clear again and cool this evening.
