through their yards, cleaning up branches and small trees. those stories ahead. it is wednesday morning, thanks for joining us, i'm megan pringle. charley crowson off this week with his brand new baby daughter, olivia. in the meantime, lauren cook is looking at the roads. busy out there? >>reporter: yes. we are still dealing with that serious house fire, it's actually an apartment fire in northeast baltimore. i'll let you know how that will affect your commute coming up. in the meantime, that weather yesterday was nasty. >> it was nasty. and we have lots of storm reports, lots of wind damage, wind gusts out there. and also still dealing with some flooding on some small streams and creeks as we go into carroll county and also fredrick county. let's start with some storm reports this morning. you can see all the blue dots. those indicate the wind damage that we saw yesterday, and this is what's going on right now with the yellow dot in howard county. well, that is wind -- the wind gust, rather, is what we're going to be dealing with there. so we can see basically that all day long it was a rough type of day in the afternoon time frame as well. we can see what's going on in

terms of some wind damage around westminster, that was yesterday. it happened at 3:25. and for today we are going to begin to clean things up. it's going to be much better outside. but we're still talking about the flood warning that's in effect until, actually, 11:45, it was extended. you can see it for the areas in the green, so carroll and also fredrick. as we go throughout the day, we will see improving conditions. we're already drying out along the eastern shore and that will continue. let's get a check now of the abc 2 news time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. glad to see that rain is finally out of the picture. yesterday was just terrible. we are dealing with a serious apartment fire going on right now in northeast baltimore. load stone way will be shut down as the fire department does investigate. linda stow will bring you a live report from the scene coming up in just a few minutes. if you are headed to the area, stick with conneaut way as your alternate route. problems on 695 this morning. we are dealing with a crash on the outer loop. that's going to be right between the peninsula expressway and cove road. and you're taking a live look right now at the west side of

the beltway at baltimore national pike. the outer loop starting to slow down just a little bit. and for those of you using 795, here's a live look at cockiesmill. nothing to get in your way. it will be a very easy ride headed down towards the beltway. that's a look at your abc 2 news time saver traffic. megan, over to you. we're following prz this morning, something lauren just mentioned in her traffic report, seven people, including a child had to be rushed to the hospital, this after a fire broke out at an apartment in northeast baltimore. it happened at 5003 load stone way. that's where the apartment building is located. abc 2 news' linda stoe live at the scene right now. linda, what can you tell us? >>reporter: the fire is out, but you can still see fire trucks that line the street. the building in question that actually caught on fire is across the street. right over there you can still see some of the charring that went on from this fire, the windows are broken out. this is what we know, at 3:45, 3:55 this morning, firefighters were called here to parkside

garden apartments. it's a three-story garden-style apartment building. when they got here, they saw the building fully engulfed. the first, second, third floors were on fire, the flames shooting through the roof. several people actually had to jump to escape the flames. firefighters also had to rescue several people who were hanging out from their windows. in all, seven people were taken to area hospitals, two in serious condition, one of them being a child, a boy was taken to hopkins trauma. no firefighters were injured. firefighters are still investigating what caused this fire. we just spoke with a woman who escad the building. she said she was sleeping, she lives on the ground floor, she has a 3-year-old son and a 5- month-old daughter. she smelled this smoke, heard people running outside. that's when she looked and saw the flames. she managed to get herself out along with her kids safely. she says it's a miracle that no one died in this fire, considering how intense that fire was. but, again, the cause of the

fire remains under investigation this morning. we're told management is on scene here to help those displaced. there are still a lot of people standing outside because of the damage that was done. the entire building, we're told, all of the units were dablged. we're live in northeast baltimore, linda stow, abc 2 news. baltimore city police have a suspect in custody in connection with that shooting last week that happened on the campus of morgan state university. he's 20 years old. his name is kelly elbree. he has been charged with first and second-degree attempted murder along with assault and a number of weapons charges. police say that the incident appears to have stemmed from a drug deal inside of a first- floor bathroom of the student center at the campus of morgan state. >> we do have numerous witnesses who were there at the scene and in talking with us, we were able to identify mr. elebe as the suspect. >> the shooting victim still in the hospital this morning, but he is said to be recovering and should be okay. be careful if you're

driving through washington d.c. that's because cameras are going to be watching you on the road and it's not for speeding. you should be careful when you're stopping as well. sandra endo explains. >>reporter: in washington d.c., obey the four simple letters, s-t-o-p or pay the price. >> give us a break. the stop sign cameras are out? give us a break. >> i don't think they should put it on the stop signs now. i think that's a little too much. >>reporter: the nation's capital is following the lead of california where photo- enforced stop signs have been raking in the dough. >> i just got a ticket in the mail with a picture of my vehicle and my license plate. i just think they're a revenue for california. >>reporter: these cameras placed in the santa monica hills were put up in 2007. offenders fined $100, brought in $2 million last year. >> if it's something that's not

posted and people aren't aware of it or they don't announce it and just kind of put it there and they don't know it's there, it's kind of misleading. >>reporter: but drivers are warned. washington d.c. is gearing up to install 16 stop sign cameras by the end of the year, mostly at intersections near schools. run through one of these and it'll cost you $50 in the district. last year d.c.'s red light and speed limit cameras raked in $55 million. city officials say it's not about the revenue, it's about safety. >> the police department's only goal is to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities. >>reporter: in order to avoid a penalty, under the law, the car has to come to a full and complete stop before the crosswalk in order to count as a legal stop. at this intersection near an elementary school, cnn saw a number of drivers rolling through stop signs, prompting one motorist to welcome the cameras. >> people go through stop signs like they don't exist, so i think it's a good idea.

>> sandra endo reporting from washington d.c. before the cameras are installed, d.c. officials say that they are going to give people there a 30- day warning period to make sure that they know that those cameras are there. some drivers, they got a chance to save and fill up. this happened in nevada. listen to this, a gallon of regular unleaded $1.84. the gas can man, an organization fueled by a group focused on energy policies paid the difference. representatives say this was to remind people that only four years ago we were paying about $3 less. currently the average price for gas in nevada is $3.83. here in maryland it's up about four cents cheaper than that. camping anyone? turns out you want that iphone 5, many people are, they just can't wait until friday. already lining up in certain places to get that new iphone. and there are some new hosts on the show "the voice."

good morning, maryland. this is your abc 2 news to go this wednesday morning. we have a lot happening right now. linda stow is live following breaking news right now. an apartment fire that happened

in northeast baltimore. she'll have the latest on what's going on there. seven people taken to the hospital. sherree johnson has the latest on a man accused of committing a lewd act in front of an elementary school. right now police are looking for him. first let's get a check on your weather with meteorologist lynette charles because we saw severe weather yesterday. a lot of you have some cleanup to do today. lynette. >> exactly. we did get that severe weather yesterday with plenty of gusty winds, damaging winds, and also some flooding out there. but today is a different morning. we are looking at plenty of dry time right now. we still do have some clouds out there, but we are beginning to see a few peeks of some clearing out there. let's go into bel aire, you can see what's going on right now, the clouds, and you're starting to see a few breaks in those clouds. that will be the scenario as we go throughout the day, we'll get gradually clearing. 58 degrees is the temperature, the dewpoint at 55. so we're back in the 50s. that means that air is really beginning to dry out. we can see the temperature in owens mills 52 degrees. dewpoint at 51, so we're nice and comfortable. the last stop this morning is towson with a temperature of 56

degrees, dewpoint 49. it feels good out there. make sure you do have a light jacket, though, because the temperature at 8:00 still 59 degrees. as we go throughout the day, 3:00 p.m., 72 and breezy. let's get a check now of the abc 2 news time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. we continue to follow a serious apartment fire in northeast baltimore. it happened right after 5:00 a.m. on load stone way. and it is a side street, but it's still going to shut down this particular way. so you will want to stick with conneaut way or park drive as your alternate routes. linda stow has been bringing live reports from the scene all morning. seven people injured all together. no reports to -- no problems to report through the fort mchenry tunnel or the harbor tunnel. 83 also nice and clear. if you are headed out to the west side of the beltway, that will not be the case. as we check in and take a live look here at liberty road, outer loop just crawling right now. that will continue down to route 40. here's what it looks like in parkville. fortunately no problems on the

inner loop making your way down towards 95, and the outer loop sluggish up towards providence road. megan, over to you. let's go to that breaking news that we've been following this morning. seven people, including a child had to be rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out in northeast baltimore. it is happening at 5003 load stone way. it's an apartment building, and that's where we find abc 2 news' linda stow. linda, do police know anything or fire officials know anything about the cause of this yet, or is it too early? >>reporter: it's still too early. they're investigating the cause right now. it's been about two hours since the flames were put out. you can see it's that apartment building over there across the street. you can still see some fire trucks here on the scene. what we know is that around 3:55 this morning, here at the parkside garden apartments, firefighters arrived to find a three-story, garden-style apartment building fully engulfed. they found the first, second, third floors in flames, with flames shooting through the roof. several people actually had to jump out of the windows to escape the flames. firefighters also had to rescue

people hanging out from their windows. seven people were taken to the hospital. we're told six adults and one child in serious condition, a boy was taken to hopkins trauma. no firefighters were injured. again, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. we spoke with one woman who escaped the building. she was sleeping with her 3- year-old son and 5-month-old daughter when she heard people running. she looked outside, saw the smoke, smelled the smoke. luckily she got out safely. again, no one died in this fire. she says it was a miracle that no one else was seriously hurt because she said it was so intense. but, again, seven people, six adults were taken to hospitals, one boy taken to hopkins trauma in serious condition. we're live in northeast baltimore, linda stow, abc 2 news. 6:49 right now. anne arundel county police are trying to find a man accused of touching himself outside of a county elementary school. now, this all happened while day care was in session and sports teams were practicing. abc 2 news' sherree johnson

joins us live this morning with the details on how you can help find this guy. sheree. >>reporter: well, megan, yes, i'm here in millersville right in front of anne arundel county police headquarters. i just spoke with officers, and they tell me they still have not found the suspect, and, yes, they could use the public's help with this. this all happened monday night around 6:00 near seven oaks elementary school in anne arundel county. while day care, yes, was still in session and community sports teams were practicing, police say a man committed a lewd act in front of the school. now, surveillance cameras captured the man acting suspicious. police released these pictures of the suspect. school was not in session during this incident, but authorities want to find this person. county police have a new initiative called operation cotter that will deal with situations like this. but it's a very uneasy feeling for parents. >> we would have no idea how long the individual has been there, and so they could have been there during school hours and just we not know about it.

>>reporter: if you have any information on this incident, you're asked to call anne arundel county police at 410- 222-6155. reporting live in millersville, sherree johnson, abc 2 news. nine minutes away from 7:00 right now. a 10-year-old boy is recovering from serious injuries. he's recovering at johns hopkins children's center after he came into contact with a power line. fire officials say that this boy was walking on randall ride in saverna park carrying a bamboo pole and that pole hit a power line. we're told his injuries are nonlife threatening, serious, but he is expected to make a recovery. consumer news for you this morning, h and m right now recalling children's water bottles because they are a possible choking hazard. take a look at your screen. they're 16-ounce water bottles sold at h and m stores nationwide over the summer. the bottles are pink or blue plastic with a flip top lid. the company has received one report of an incident where those bottles, the spout broke off into a child's mouth.

getting a higher education right now seems to be costing more and more, especially when it comes to room and board. college-bound students, those kids are trying to find creative and extreme ways to pay for their tuition. students are doing everything from donating their eggs to actually pawning personal items and hosting for an -- foreign exchange student as well. one student even rented out her car and used her bike to get around to class. we'll have more on this story online. kohl's looking for seasonal workers right now. the department store is hiring more than 52,000 people nationwide for work during the holiday season. that's a 10% increase from a year ago. the chain hired last year. right now other retail giant stores like toys r us, target, wal-mart too, they are set to announce their seasonal hiring plans very soon. we'll keep you posted on that. five things you may want to know as you head out the door this morning, the state's attorney's office in florida expects to release a new set of

operations from the storms. tonight's meeting starts at 5:00 tonight at city hall. we have been spared a lot of damage from yesterday's storms after all that weather. but the same cannot be said for a lot of people living closer to d.c. look at this, powerful winds uprooted trees, causing them to fall on top of homes. now, those downpours made a huge mess across the roads. we're looking at that damage. i know a lot of people were really nervous looking out the windows of their homes, offices, wondering what they were going to find bh they got home from work, right, lynette? >> exactly, megan. check out what we have, in new carrollton yesterday we had trees down, westminster poles down. rockville, we had i-270 flooding and fredrick major flooding across the area. and for today we still do have a flood warning for streams in fredrick county and also carroll county until 11:45 this morning. at the surface for today, that cold front moves through the area. behind it we're dealing with breezy conditions, cooler conditions and dryer conditions. so we are going -- we aren't
