appreciative. >> >> oh, i am so grateful. i would like to find who they are to thank them. >> great story. a police officer inhaled too much smoke and was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. it was a neighbor who sheafed couple from a fire in randallstown. a neighbor noticed something wasn't right eye was paint -- >> i was painting my garage floor and smelled the smoke. when i came to the end of the driveway, i saw smoke coming from the neighbor's door. so i ran over and started banging on the door to get the people out. >> two people had to be treated for smoke inhalation but the fire was contained to the kitchen. first lady michelle obama is in m. tonight. she spent the afternoon on the campus of morgan state where she hosted a private fund-raiser.

the events were closed to the public. maryland created 1400 jobs in august but the unemployment rate rose. it's up from 7% in july. the numbers were released by the u.s. department of labor. maryland saw an increase in the unemployment rate. nevada continues to have the highest and north dakota has the lowest. temperature wise it's comfortable. nice start to the weekend. we have a clear sky, a little sunlight and temperatures in the mid-70s. bel air upper 70s. humidity has come up in the last few hours. that's having an impact. clear now but a new front is on the board and beginning to march in our direction. it's sparking showers across northern indiana, northern ohio. as we go into the latter evening, mid-60s by morning and

clouds on the increase. we'll talk about how conditions will change saturday this time, saturday evening. general motors is recalling more than 450,000 cars tonight. some of them are rolling away unexpectedly. they affect the malibu g6 and saturn ora. the problem is in the transmission cable. owners will get a warning letter in the mail. there will be fewer jobs at american airlines. american filed for bankruptcy last year. now more than 2200 flight attendants have signed up for severance payments. the company is trying to cut $1 billion in labor costs. apple's biggest fans lined up to get their hands on the iphone 5 but before you buy, find out what one feature is that a lot of people are saying

arundel county, this is aren't 97 and 530. as you head south on 97, this is where the accident is, always a problem in the afternoon commute and certainly a problem today. you can see it's an active seen in the middle of i-97. it's not clear how long if -- it will take to clear. at one point it was a five-mile backup. only one lane getting by state police trying to reconstruct the crash. we do know one person has been killed in the crash. we will continue to follow the story both tonight and on abc2news.com. that as a tough area traffic wise on a normal day. hope they get that cleared out sooner than later. the naval academy all sunshine. conditions have been good. man, what a day to go sail the

it's going to be a period of time where it's not the best. the wind from the southeast is a warm one it. tends to pump up the humidity, still in this very, very early part of the fall season. above 60s. starts to notice the humidity. don't worry. if you're a fan of the dry air it comes back by sunday. tomorrow a fairly humid somewhat sunny start. then this next storm boundary, you can see it cutting its way into the upper midwest. this disturbance will come through, bring the chance for showers and storms and behind it cooler air filtering in late saturday night and especially through the day on sunday. that will make for a cooler scenario. the front will be lining up through central maryland. maybe an hour either way on this. the line of showers, maybe gusty

iphone 5, apple's biggest product launch since the original iphone is being overshadowed by controversy and criticism over the new papping system. for the larger screen and faster service, 10 million are expected to sell in the first couple of weeks but critics are finding one big flaw. it replaces google's map. fox news calls apple mass awful, saying it's a flop. the huffington post points out some of the hilarious errors, showing out of business chains like woolworth, not showing town and cities and showing airfield farms as an airport which could cause a plane to land in a field of cows. apple has removed the google map
