center. if you know anything about the section of east baltimore, that community has been trying hard to turn things around. >> they have. they are doing a goods job of it, too. we are here in east baltimore to honor the lives of the dawson family. an event kicks off tonight at 6:00. it's been ten years since they lost their lives. it was known as one of the worst tragedies. october 16th, 2002, the home of cornell and angela was fire bombed. they and their five children died in the fire. as a result of the deaths, neighbors, leaders and faith based groups worked together to build a monument to the dawsons here at 1401 east preston. that monument has become the dawson safe haven center for children and families. i have reggie with the housing

department and pam carter joining me, the director with the center, good morning, thank you for joining us. tell us about what is going through your mind ten years after the death of the dawsons. >> it's a great feeling for me today to be here, ten years after the tragedy that's occurred here. it gives me a warm feeling that we are able to keep the memory of the family alive and focuses on what we can continue to do in the future. >> tell us about what you are seeing, what you do to help the community. >> what we do is work with the children in the community, we have 45, 46 children come to us after they are dismissed. we work with them with school work to enhance what they are doing in school. we tutor them and me tore
