morning. we can see 100% humidity now in arbutus and also columbia. now we go through your planner and we do have that cool morning by nighttime though we'll start to warm up nicely. still plenty of sunshine but the clouds will be on the increase throughout the day. we will top out around 70 degrees and that temperature is actually above average. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. you have lots of accidents to talk about. oh, yeah. in addition to the fog we have several accidents major problems right now on the harrisburg expressway where a crash shut down the southbound lanes between freelands road and old york road. abc2 news paul jaffey sent us the photos from the scene. this accident happened just before 4:00 this morning and it involved three arts. three people -- tractor- trailers. three people have been critically injured and do expect the southbound lanes to be shut down during the morning rush. a live look right now on 695 and parkville here at harford road. there is a crash right now on the inner loop you will want to

not one that just includes the travel and the lodging but figure in meals and tips and taxis and a little just in case cash. and when you have that budget, set up a travel savings account. skip the extra latte a day and put the money instead in your travel account and then you can pay cash for the fabulous trip. now, if that doesn't work for you, there's also travel layaway. believe it or not a lot of companies are doing there and one of the big companies sears actually has a whole website. they have about 100 trip listed on that right now so you can pay a little at a time for that fabulous vacation. if none of that works for you, there's always home swapping. yes, home swapping. we know there's places you like to go and who wouldn't like to visit baltimore with all of the attractions so you can find someone in a fabulous location and trade homes. that way the lodging is paid for. it's a good way to save a buck. >> you mentioned something about some of the items we may of look when going on the trip -- overlook when going on the trip. you mentioned the meals and

also the cups of coffee, what are other things people tend to forget? >> reporter: there's transfers from the airport and factor in the tips and of course trinkets, very rarely do people go on trips without buying something but also say you should have a really good chunk put away for just in case money. in case there are any emergencies and you're somewhere that you need cash, you ought to be able cocarry with it -- to be able to carry it with you comfortably. >> always come back with a souvenir. news time is now a little bit after :30 and a new college grad owe more money. a new report shows two-thirds of the dallas of 2011 -- class of 2011 finished school with loan debt. those walked off the graduation stage owing around $26,000. that is up 5% from the class of 2010. well, lance armstrong continues receiving support from one local charity. the cancer fund for young adults says the former pro cyclist will continue working with the group. however armstrong has been

dumped by nike, anheuser busch and he gave up the top spot for the anticancer charity live strong. well, have you ever made a call from a cell phone from your pocket? or your purse? well, maybe it was inside the jacket pocket? you never really touched the screen to dial the number. but a phone number gets dialed anyway. it happened more often than you may think and it's now a problem because accidental calls sometimes called butt dials are going to emergency responders. like 911 which you expect. in some cases parents upgrade a phone and give the old one to their kids to play with but the phone has since expired. >> the 3-year-old talking to momma and momma finally get the phone because i stayed on there. she said i had no idea that you know this phone was still dialing 911.

big event coming up this sunday in hunt valley. it's the 20th annual komen maryland race for the cure and the fight against breast cancer. abc2 news is a proud partner with the organization. and we'll be out there live for you throughout the day on sunday morning. brittany fowler joins us once again and we were talking about it earlier, the money is used from race for the komen maryland and you were saying system of the specific hot -- some of the specific hospitals in maryland? >> we're very fortunate in maryland, we have very strong institutions and the 25% that we send off to national headquarters earmarked specifically for research typically maryland more than that 25% comes back. so really 100% of what we raised in maryland typically stays within the state. we fund programs to johns hop kins and we fund programs at mercy. university of maryland baltimore. it's a lot of research that's taking mace right here in maryland. >> this is a big big event on

sunday. we're talking about tens of thousands of people coming out. so you need to come early, be prepared for some long lines. and just be patient. >> correct. the race is at 6:00 a.m. and we really encourage everyone to get out there as soon as possible. we have multiple parking lots that are open and we also have shuttle buses that run between the parking lots and the race village. to get people in and out quickly. the mta is also running so people can also take public transportation to the race site as well. >> to giving you're dun about 44% in overall giving for the year of 2012 but people can give after the race. correct our race site stays ohm until december 31st. >> we have multiple fundraising challenges that are actually going until a month after the race. even if you can't come out on sunday you can make a denation following the race and really show their support for the maryland women. >> information there on the screen. komen maryland race for the cure sunday morning the 21st.

"good morning maryland." i'm charlie crowson. time now for the abc2 news to to and we begin with a check of the forecast this morning with meteorologist lynette charles. what's going on out there? a little bit cool this morning but not like it was yesterday though. >> we see pilesville with the

temperature at 50 degrees, that's actually move average. we like to see that but you still need the jacket as you head out and about this morning. the winds from south at about 5 miles an hour. that will be the case as we go throughout the day. it's going to get even breezier. bethese that right now 50 degrees there. the dew point at 47 and still dealing with the winds continuing throughout the day. now ims burst is a bills -- emmitsburg is a little bit cool they are morning. we have a little bit of everything this morning and we will start to see some wet weather moving in on maryland's most powerful radar. as we head plaiter into the afternoon -- later into the afternoon and especially the evening overnight into tomorrow morning. here's the planner for you as those showers will begin as we go into the 7:00 time frame. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynette. we unfortunately have several accidents across the region. in 83 in northern baltimore county where a crash shut down the southbound lanes between freeland road and old york

road. abc2 news paul jaffey sent us those photos from the scene. it involved three tractor- trailers this morning two of which hit each other head-on. three people have been critically injured and again the southbound lanes will be shut down through the morning rush. so you will want to use york road instead. more problems out on 695 where we have an accident in parkville. it's right along the inner loop here at harford road. do expect a seven minute delay right now traveling from 83 down to 95. as far as the west side of 695 is concerned, here's what it looks like at baltimore national pike. everything moving right along just a three minute delay right now on the outer loop from 795 down to intertate 70. we have some problems in anne arundel county a crash along the southbound lanes of route 295 at 19 r5 and another crash on route 50 along if eastbound lanes at cape street. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. charlie over to you. when your children head off to school you shouldn't have to worry about the safety and that's why beginning today some changes are coming to the baltimore county school district.

they're going to start using meal detecting wands in an effort to keep your kids safe and abc2 news linda so is live this morning in perry hall high school where linda this all started i guess in essence at that school back in august. >> reporter: yeah, you'll remember the shooting that happened here on the first day of school. when a student brought a gun to school and shot another student in the cafeteria. it's in response to school violence incidents like this that starting today, every school resource officer in baltimore county will have access to hand held medal detecting wands. now those wand will not be used for random searches. but resource officers will use them when they feel there's reasonable suspicion that someone in the school has a weapon. the council police chief says it's part of the solution to keeping kids safe in schools. recent incidents prompted this change of course the shooting here at perry hall high, there was another scare at stemmers run middle school, and then just this week, a bb gun that was found at owings mills high. parents seem to be on board

with the new policy. >> it would be less likely to bring something like that or you know that could cause harm the another child in the school. i would think. you know what i mean? whether it be a knife or a gun or whatever it is. >> reporter: so when your kids go to school this morning, this new policy will be in effect. school resource officers in baltimore county will have metal detecting wands and they will use them if they feel a student has a weapon. we're live in perry hall, linda so, abc2 news. 6:48 and right now crews are on the scene of a three alarm fire in cecil county. the image now. look at the size of the fire. here's all we know right now. a home on willow drive in elkton went up in flames just before 4:00 this morning. no word right now on any injuries, we'll have more as information becomes available. both on the air and online at abc2news.com. take a look at that picture. well, today a family has the unimaginable task of burying five loved wins at once. -- ones at once.

a grandmother and her four young grandchildren are being laid to rest after their house caught fire last week in baltimore. the memorial service is being held this morning at 10:00 at mount pleasant church. the funeral will follow immediately at 11:00. the four grandkids none of them were older than 7 years old. if it doesn't, anne arundel county executive leopold is going to pay his own attorney fees if the ruling is not in his favor. after she complained he made inappropriate comments. leopold says he is spite told a government funded -- entitled to a government funded defense. he won't pass the legal bills on to taxpayers if he doesn't get favorable ruling. but this morning, 21-year- old sits in jail. the fbi says that quazi mohammad rezwanul ahsan nafis went as far as to load a gun with what he believed to be

explosives connected to what he believed to be a detonator then parked the van outside the building. he walked to nearby hotel and that's where police were waiting for him. turns out one of the people he got the explosives from was an undercover fbi agent. >> when you obtain a truck and you bring it to the site of a major federal facility and you try to detonate it that goes way past aspirational to me. >> he is from bangladesh and has only been in the country since january. he has ties to al-qaeda he said in court and is charged with trying to conduct an act of terror in the united states. authorities say he came to the u.s. explicitly to carry out the attack. for the first time in nearly 20 years u.s. government says crime rates in the numbers are up. the u.s. department of justice says telephone surveys of 75,000 people showed an increase of around 22% in assault. that pushed up the overall rate for violent crime for the first time of a number this high

since 1993. well, it's been several days lost in montana's national park and now the hikers have sharing their -- are sharing their story. dr. jason hiser and his friend neal peckens got back to virginia tuesday after surviving a patch of wintry weather and rationing out the food. the experienced hikers got turned around after their map blew away and one of them fell down a steep terrain in the snow. they heard the rescuers' calls. >> the worst part of the whole thing was the fact that we were not able to communicate with anyone back home that cared about us. >> the hardest think was to keep staying in the same place and not moving. >> very grateful for everyone that -- that is you know shown us so much support. >> despite losing 15 pounds each during their trip, both men are doing fine this morning. and they say they'd like to have another hiking trip in the future. if their wives will give them the okay. well, in just a few weeks you will head to the polls to vote on a number of issues, one

an earthquake. turns out it was a meteor streaking across the sign and it was roughly the size of a car. now, you want to talk about the meteor or do you want to talk about the snow? >> about the snow. i think that we're doing to get some snow in here. not going to be what we had last season at all. but for today no type of snow whatsoever. we are dealing with temperatures in the 50s basically from kent island to baltimore even bel air this morning. let's take you outside in bel air. you can see what's going on. well, we have some clouds out there and also some clear skies so that sun/cloud mix will continue as we go throughout the day. so if prepared for that. now at the surface high pressure is out into the atlantic right now. we're waiting for the comfort to move through -- cold front to move through. ahead of that we have some showers and thunderstorms. and those will make their way in here as we go mainly into the evening into the overnight tomorrow morning. so we look at future trend not picking up on a whole lot right now. but 7:00 this evening into 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 even in the
