"20/20". an alarming number of children have been maid sick after eating detergent which they thought was candy. almost 500 children have ingested the pods made by tide. tide has made new child proof packages, but the old ones were never recalled, leaving them on store shelves. showers are developing to our south and west. we have our first official lightning strike, actually two. you can see that bolt of lightning just north of rockville, maybe hearing the rumble of thunder. they will track north and west of the i-95 corridor moving through ellicott city up through catonsville on the west side of the the beltway near frederick. you'll see showers out of this

filed five years ago claiming that hbc's are not equally funded as their predominantly white universities in maryland. the judge ordered a mediation to come it a resolution. that failed in november. now they find themselves at the end of this six-week trial. >> the numbers don't add up. we need equal funding. >> reporter: attorneys for the state would not comment until the trial was over. the state said it had no legal obligation to enhance the hbc's or make the facilities come parrel to maryland's white schools. some students disagree. >> to provide opportunities and not do one for other side. >> reporter: dr. earl richards president of moore dan state university said this is not just about black students. equal funding can help students

of all color. >> there's something to be learned about the mix, about the diversity that i think contributes to not only higher education but a way of doing it. >> reporter: attorneys tell me it could be two weeks before a decision is made. at the federal courthouse in baltimore, don harrison, abc2 news. we are thinking pink at abc2. today we within the to the breast cancer center and wanted to find the myth surrounding breast cancer. >> i think women are terrified by this disease. this disease is all over the media, which is a good thing. it brings awareness to so many women but women are afraid.

everyone knows someone who has breast cancer. i think one very common myth women will come in after being diagnosed with breast cancer and say no one in my family has breast cancer -- not my mom, sister. the fact is over 85% of newly diagnosed women do not have a history of breast cancer. the number one killer of women is heart disease. the number one cancer is lung cancer. breast cancer is more common but more women die from lung cancer. most women diagnosed with breast cancer are survivors. there are over 2.6 million raise breast survivors in -- breast cancer survivors in the united states today. self-breast exams do not replace mammograms. we should been couraging women to be active participants and be aware of their own bodies.

if they feel something, seven months before they're scheduled to see their doctor, they should contact their dr. sometimes, i think women avoid the mammograms because they don't want to know. the message i try to get across is if breast cancer going to happen, it's going to get whether you get a mammogram or not. why wouldn't you want to find it early and cure it and be known as a breast cancer survivor. >> due to october, the awareness and the komen race, october is their busiest month when it comes to breast health. the race is two days away but the race is on to get more people out there on sunday morning. >> walkup registration is open in hunt valley. that's where we find cheryl conner. >> reporter: they're doing a lot

with komen maryland. there is a push to get more people to register because numbers are down compared to last year. >> yes, they are. we're down quite a bit but we've had steady registration and we will be here tomorrow and anyone can register on race day. >> reporter: we hear so much about race for the cure. it's much more than finding a ciewmplet the money also goes toward treatment. >> we fund programs that support women that are going through treatment. screening programs are very important. we have a lot of programs to get women in screening and stay with them through the whole cancer process and recovery. so this really is a local organization. 25% goes to national headquarters for research. >> okay. so registration until 7:00 tonight.

a seattle woman is getting national attention. nichole hakimian 1-year-old son was sick so she boarded a bus to take him to the doctor. >> receipt after that she told me i had to get off the bussments i said why is that? she said your baby smells really bad and it's not fair we have to smell all of that. >> she said she was forced to get off the bus four blocks away from the doctor's office and walked into a clinic to change the diaper before walking the rest of the way. she's four months pregnant

what do you do when you see a boa constrictor on a bridge? this is a lieutenant who was willing to go hunting for the python. the snake was likely released by a former owner or escaped and will not likely survive because it gets cold. it was taken to a local vet. this is olympian, one of three sea turtles nursed back to health with the help of an aquarium. these pictures are compliments of the aquarium. he was rehabilitated here in baltimore and treated for over inflated lungs and possible pneumonia. he was given a satellite tag so they can track him. you can track his travels as well at the aquarium's website.
