weather to our south. this is a tight end look at sandy. see that we have conditions now, basically in the red phase here, which is the most intense part of the storm, knot of the bahamas. -- north of the bahamas. hurricane sandy continues to which you churn up the coast, winds 75 miles per hour. this is north at six, this track is still a big concern for us here as the storm continues to march in to the delmarva, peninsula. potentially by monday, midday. that's why we are keeping such a close eye on sandy. >> i'm looking here, we have thed a advisory. winds at 75 to the north at 7. a pick up in overall speed. but still a crawl, down towards the south. we are be watching the storm next 24 hours, crucial to the development and addressing the idea of major waves that will move in.

this is our wave watch model, showing you, bullseye in the center, 20, 30-foot waves expected. major surf along the front up towards the delmarva beach, 8- 16 feet in to the weekend. this is still a historic storm, long duration event that's going to last from monday through wednesday, ings will go downhill sunday night, south and east, during the day monday, you are going to notice the winds picking up in a big way, lasting in to wednesday. eastern bay flood risk will increase and we will keep a eye on the high title cycles, elevated water levels, due to a full moon that will be setting up. we will get in to detail with that through the course of the news cast in the next couple of days. high winds, heavy rain, a big potential. two storms. it's about storm shield app. download that now and power potential, the loss from the storm is going to be a big

sandbags, play type coming out along with plywood and generators , the stakes are higher when you are preparing for a hurricane. ken is trying to beat the rush, the rush to get his boat out of the chesapeake bay ahead of hurricane sandy, he learned his lesson nine years ago. >> isabelle, we didn't think anything was going to happen. it was fine until 1:00 in the morning. woke up the next morning, everything was under water. >> reporter: ray morrison, no longer wait until the storm is upon him, choosing to prepare for almost anything. >> identify heard snow, high winds is what i'm most concerned about. i don't know what the rain, how much of that is going to be and where it's going to hit, whether it's going to be up the bay, or maybe delaware bay or up to peninsula, between delaware and chesapeake bay.

>> reporter: emergency managers in baltimore and harford counties are preparing for the worst. mindful of the possible flooding along the bay and the real danger posed by high winds and heavy rain. >> we do intend to receive a significant amount of rainfall, somewhere between 6 inches to maybe 12 inches of rain over a 24-36 hour period. we also believe that we will have strong gusty winds, bringing down some tree limbs, also power lines et cetera. the possibility of power outages is an absolute reality we need to deal with. there is no way to tell where in the county that may occur. folks need to plan accordingly. >> reporter: emergency managers say there is important and quick dos or don'ts, they want you to have three days of drinking or supply of drinking

water, fresh water, for each person in the household on hand in skas of power outages and flashlights and batteries. they don't want you to use candles. if you should go out and raining heavily, they don't want you to go through standing water. you don't know what is under theres you could tie up important emergency resources for over people should we have widespread flooding. jeff hager, abc2 news. you remember when isabelle hit in baltimore city, there was a lot of flooding . that's where the condition is with sandy on the way and flooding in fells point and downtown. >> they are prepping. brian kuebler is live in fells point where they are starting to fill the sand bags. >> reporter: we know one of the most vulnerable parts of the city during storms is right here in fells point. it's why the city dutched a

pile of sand at the pier for residents and businesses to get sandbags. workers are giving away six bags peperson and checking ids to keep track of that. it will go on until 9:00 and do so until 9:00 tomorrow night. they want folks to be ready because this storm could have a quote isabelle-type storm surge. a possibility many business open rs down here are well aware -- owners down here are well aware of. >> we have the tv channels and looking at the models. it doesn't look good. >> what goes through your mind? >> a lot of prayers. >> reporter: now, in an hour, the city will open two more locations like this one, is sand distribution locations, one a few blocks away. one on the other side of the harbor in federal hill at rash field. those all three will be open through 9:00 tonight and 9:00 tomorrow night. for now, live in fells point,

brian kuebler, abc2 news. >> sandy is such a large storm, everyone in the east coast is getting ready for the big storm that's coming through. tj winnick is live in new york ty where you don't see hurricane preparations everyday. what does it look like? >> reporter: good evening, it's been called frank enstorm, expected to make landfall in new jersey early next week. >> reporter: states along the coast coast preparing for a tropical cyclone as hurricane sandy turns in to a winter super storm. daniel is telling residents to be ready. >> assume that you will be in the midst of flooding conditions, likes of which you may have seen at any of the major storms that occurred over 30 years. >> reporter: in florida where the storm is being felt, they are on the beach early, working

to shore up the dunes to add a lay r of protection. sandy will be hit with a blast of arctic air, giving it more energy and super charged by the jet stream. >> that's going to be the difference between hurricane and a nor'easter, we will combine the two and have the worst characteristics of each. >> reporter: in massachusetts, boat owners are pulling boats out of the water. >> i talked to fishermen and believe what they said. they said they think it will be one of the worst storms in ten years. >> reporter: for kathleen, it's the memory of another storm that motivated her to heed the warning and stock up on supplies. >> last year, we had a big snowstorm before halloween. i got caught with that stuff. i learned the hard way. >> reporter: the storm is expected to impact 50 million people along the east coast, and could cause $1 billion in damage. tj winnick, abc2 news.

alarming abc 2 news investigation in to bad behavior by school bus driver is getting action . last night we showed you hundreds of bus drivers caught on tape blowing through red lights and speeding. >> we are talking abut drivers from baltimore county and city, caught on camera breaking the law, sometimes with your kids on boards. today baltimore city council says she is pro posing a bill requiring the city to supply copies of every camera city ticket. the district doesn't require the contractors to notify them about red light and speeding citations. another abc 2 news investigation, indicted in howard county. tommy clack, serving two years in prison for a paving scam in arundel, faces nine counts, a theft scheme and acting as a

contractor without a license. investigators reported on him for a year uncovering a paving scam he was running that targeted seniors over charging them for work by tens of thousand of dollars. now, maryland's most accurate forecast. let's get you up to speed on sandy. sandy is a power house hurricane as we look off the florida coast. still well defined center, look at the reach of the storm, well out, thousands of miles off of florida here. leading edge of the storm, the outer bands, edging in as close as southern virginia now. the storm getting a little more in to the neighborhood, look at del ray beach in florida today. see the bands coming in off of the outer edge. the core of sandy, hundred miles offshore is getting wind and rain here in fort lauderdale as well. bring you back here locally, the sun was actually out at the

beach as we make our final preparations on the maryland coast and across the state so far the weather is quiet. here are the the latest statistics. a category one hurricane, north at 6 miles per hour, and the position is 770 miles south of ocean city maryland. its track that's of primary concern, in to sunday night, the timing shifted on the storm. now we are talking late sunday, primarily in to the day monday and tuesday, that turn from out at sea that turn inward towards delmarva. of course the other wild card, where the storm comes in, but also, exactly what type of phasing we get with the cold air to the west. the cold front coming in, jet stream energy ramping the storm up to really historic levels as it moves in to maryland towards monday and tuesday. the cold air will be blasting in. as we take a look at the set up, the trend shows, sandy

coming up the coast, jet stream diving in, and the storm strengthening towards sunday nite. there are wild cards, questions with the storm for more on that one. head to mike masco. interesting day, we have been watching the storm up folding and developing and intensifying. we feel confident on the storm off of hatteras. around 50, 60 miles. when does it come incomes when does it take the left hook in to shore and it's going to be up to two track scenarios. we will show you, two thoughts we are going to maintain a two track scenario deal. worst track through the even shore, over ocean city, and shooting it up towards queen ann's county and over baltimore. not far out of the realm of possibility of gusts around 55- 60. rain is a big player. 3-5 inches of rain.

if we do see that the track goes towards the north, we are going to get something out of this. it's not going to be as intense. winds 35 miles per hour, gusting to 45. 2-4 inches of rain with coastal flooding becoming a concern, mostly towards the eastern shore, western, eastern shoreline, could be the dealing with issues. eastern shoreline, the eastern coastline, what i'm trying to say. that would be an issue with the northerly wind piling the water from the bay. this is going to have certainly multiple variables to this. we will keep an eye on it. we are locked in to the idea of 35-45 miles per hour, starting on monday afternoon in to monday night and could linger in to wednesday and the rain potential certainly 3-5 inches possible, more rain towards the north philly, 5- 8 inches. if this goes towards the north, lesser impact storm but still, historic storm ashore from

ocean city towards kate may county, new jersey. >> perhaps it ends up in to new jersey which would change your weather. the best chance for rain is tomorrow night. looking at the seven-day forecast, you can see the outlook, how the weather changes as we go forward here. the set is up is showers and storms in to monday and tuesday. that's the primary day that have an impact from the storm. rain showers could begin on sunday. it's about the final track, more north in to new jersey, sparing maryland the worst or south. >> amazing stuff. >> switching gears, they lit up carts with pampers and detergent and made a break for it. >> where cops busted the diaper theft ring and how the thieves got away with it for so long. considering another problem, a prank backfires and ruins a football field for six months. why a dozen goats are to blame. mayor: casino owners in west virginia are spending

we are anticipating a lot of power outages as sandy makes her way in to maryland. based on our calls, chances are you are not going to get a generator. we found items that are the next best thing to have around the house. we want to show you a few things that were recommended to us. the head lamp it seems silly, like a silly idea, if you are in the dark, during the storm, you are trying to do things with your hands and find stuff, having to hole on to a flashlight maybe difficult. one other thing was an l.e.d. flashlight with a hook on it like this, this is going to be extremely bright. the best part is it leave your hands-free if you can hang

it on something like this where you need light. the main thing, you can't get a generator, one other thing you might want to consider is a power in verter. you can hook this thing up to your car, and in this situation, you can charge it, takes an hour, and then you maybe able to power appliances like your refrigerator and hold on to your food if you need it. that very crucial if you are looking to alternives to your generator. obviously these are luxury items that you have here, but there are a few basics you want to have, have things like bottled water, a battery powered radio, and flash lites at the very least, you will find everything you need to get through sandy on the website. we set up a special section telling you everything from the stork track to generator safety tips, go to abc2news.com/hurricane. of course, as we mentioned power outages are going to be a

big problem. pg&e is on top of it, rachel is here with bge. talk about how you prep for this. you have been monitoring the monitoring the storm. >> we started premobilizing crews early yesterday. we reached out to mutual assistance crews from across the united states. we will see them entering in to the service area as early as too many and sunday. in addition today, was our materials day, we really brought in extra materials, extra cable, poles, we started loading up our trucks and loading up our staging sites with the materials. >> what is the biggest challenge as you look forward towards the storm. >> just anticipating the storm's path. it is uncertain. we are preparing for several hundred thousand customers to be without service, but really is preparing and making sure we have all of our people in
