a live look in hemdon, we have flooding, this is the scene throughout may maryland. 14 people are dead, 6 million in the dark, all along the east coast. >> we are glad you are joining us. we have been on since 4:00 on the air for you this morning, we want to remind you, if you have to go somewhere, maybe someone in your family has to work. we are streaming life on the internet. >> one thing people will want to know, is up as the storm has made landfall and continues along the track. meteorologist, lynette charles, is standing by with a check of exactly where we are headed with this. >> we do have sandy, it is north of hagerstown right now. i will take you in to the storm, this is a 3d look. lots of rain under the clouds we will see for today. from the clouds , the rain will continue, as we go through the nighttime hours. it will let up a bit.

this morning we are dealing with pockets of heavy rain, you are seeing a big shield of green, but you are seeing some yellows and oranges in here as well. that's the heavier rain, back off towards the west, we have some snow, this morning and that will continue throughout the day as well. let's zoom in, on some areas where we are seeing the heaviest amount of rainfall across the area. you need to stay off the roadways for today. another band of rain pushing in here, it's across the bay, this will be moving off towards the west as we go through the rest of the morning. it's going to be impacting dundalk, sparrows point, lake shore, we have another batch of heavier rain around the dc area, the nation's capital, getting pounded now, if you are headed towards virginia, which you shouldn't be, you are seeing that around mount vernon as well. around hagerstown, heavier rain across the area, bag town, meyersville, along, i-70,

lift the tree off of the house, 62,700 homes without power in the county, bge restored power to over 11,000 of them. i continue to advise citizens to stay off the highways b we have a numb of road closings, which you mentioned. of course, as the trees are saturated with water, at the roots. there is the possibility of falling over. please be absolutely careful and not get on the roads unless you have to, our emergency sheller in annapolis, annapolis high school, 61, people in it, four dogs, five cats as well. arrest pet friendly facile. people need to help in getting to the facile. the department of aging and disabilities will provide transportation. that's a summary of where we are now. >> arundel county executive, john leopold where a tree fell

through a kitchen and killed a man. the second death in maryland as a result of hurricane super storm sandy. thank you for your time today. >> you bet. >> this morning we are waking up to see what sandy has left behind for so many of us. >> downed trees and power lines, some have it worse than others. sherrie johnson continues our live team coverage live along the jfx. you are underneath the jfx, you are up chose and personal with the flood waters. >> reporter: you are absolutely right about. that i have to watch my stepment its not too far behind me here. you can hear the water. it is moving have swiftly and overflowing the banks here. this is the jones falls. we are underneath the jfx and in the hampton area where the flooding is taking place. it's overflowing in to the business park area, flooding the parking lots here. you have the athletic club and other businesses in the area,

overflowing the banks going in to the parking lot area, this area is no stranger to flooding for the businesses. they have experienced problems from other storms because the area is a low lying area here. the department of transportation has closed several roads and intersections because of the flooding, this includes right here at the meadow mills business park. as mayor stephanie rawlings blake request, police officers and emergency responders are out on the streets tro spopped to fi problems -- to respond to problems. as you can see, the water overflowing here in to the area, business park there, flooding part of the parking lot. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. coverage continues this morning, we have you covered from across the state. >> we will head over to kent island to see how things are this morning after heavy rains and nasty winds ripped through the area.

>> it's been a good steady rain out here with gusty winds, and temperature is getting colder. we started in the 40s, now lower 40s. it's a chilly morning out there. as people wake up, and look out their window, we have had reports, dozens of trees down across the area. the trees causing power outages. some flooded roads, you have been showing them all morning and trees, limbs down and i see a lot of leaves on the road. that could mean slick roads out there, too. they are urging people to stay indoors, and if you don't have to be out, don't drive out. a lot of officials are arriving here this morning. that is the emergency operations center, where everything comes on in. they are telling me two confirmed deaths, one is the tree on the house and another one of a car accident in montgomery county. that's it from out here, back to you in the studio.

tuesday morning, big story again, super storm sandy, what was once a hurricane has been downgraded but causing a lot of problems in our area. >> 10,000 flights grounded as a result gives you an idea the far reaching effects of sandy. what she is doing here locally? let's get to lynette charles. we are dealing with lots of rain coming across the area. this will continue throughout the day. we will see pockets of heavy rain, throughout the day.

we can see it around washington. looking at the yellows, and also the oranges, but the greens, the lighter rain, that's going to be a steady rain and snow back off towards the west. rainfall totals, on top of yesterday, 5- 6 inches we are getting over an inch in german town. eastern shore, chester town, 6/10ths there, over an inch in annapolis. when this is all said and done, we could get around 4 more inches out of this. we are talking about 8 inches as we head in to tomorrow. now a check of the time saver traffic with loren cook. >> good morning. we are seeing the effects of sandy on the roads. many enter sections will be shutdown, arundel county, be aware, route 176 is going to be closed. route 175, shutdown at route 3, if you are traveling on 83, expect flooding under the jfx,

as we take a look at 83, hunt valley. the road are slick at shawan road. this is what the bellway looks like, harford road. the speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour, if you have to travel, take it slow. >> team coverage continues this morning with t am on bradley. >> are you with us this morning? >> reporter: yeah. good morning to you, sandy is the monster we all feared. millions of americans are waking up this morning impacted, almost 5 million people are in the dark without power, president obama declared a major disaster declaration for new york and parts of new jersey, sandy made landfall and the southern pat of new jersey and atlantic city, parts is under water, there is flood water in lower manhattan in the

subway system. we have a story of a emergency evacuation system at a hospital. hundreds of patients taken out of there, the stock exchange in knock will be shutdown for a second day. -- new york, will be shut down for a second day. 8 states are expecting snow. sandy having a big impact. >> so many of us head down there for the summer, we know about the pier that crumbled in to the water. did anyone say anything about how sad they were to see that go? >> reporter: the talk is that pier, the pier was swept away by the ocean and people are talking about the bay, the bay looks more threatening than the ocean. the bay brought a lot of water to streets here, it's a sad scene in a lovely vacation place. >> they were cold down there,

it's hurricane season. of course related to hurricane sandy, which is a super storm. there are stories coming out of this that are changing. one that we learned about overnight, a death. >> a tree came crashing down on a house killing a man inside. linda so is live with the latest. >> we heard from the county executives about 15 minutes ago, he joined us on the news cast, he was out at the scene, he tells us, he spoke with the family and it was an 80-foot tree that fell in to the house. here is what we know, here is new video we shot overnight. this happened before 11 last night in the 7700 block of suet drive. it's off of fort smallwood road, there are a lot of older mature trees in the neighborhood, police say a tree in the front yard snapped, fell on the roof, literally cut

through the house because the tree was so big you could see it snapped at the trunk and killed the man when it toppled on top of him. he was in the kitchen. the man was in his 70s. he was home alone. we have learned that he has an adult son who stays with him in the house. he was not home at the time. they need to bring in a heavy crane to remove the tree because it's large until they do so, they can't make a positive identity or release his name to us. his body will be taken to the medical examiner's office again. he was in a kitchen, his kitchen, when the tree fell, and killed him. live in millersville, linda so, abc2 news. >> ten minutes until 7:00. the eastern shore took the brunt of the storm. we have seen damage out of ocean city and towns along the bay. >> joining us on the phone is kirk, from kent island. i know you had a chance to go around and see the damage, what

have you seen? what are people saying? >> reporter: the wind didn't cause a lot of damage but it's the flooding causing the damage. last night we saw neighborhoods that were dealing with minor flooding in the front yard. people on edge as you can imagine. they knew that this was only going to get worse. a good ten or 15 people in the neighborhood we were in took their cars, moved them up to higher grounds in preparation for the flood waters rising, and frankly having to get out of the neighborhood and they thought it would be better the they had the car in a safe area. we haven't been back to that neighborhood this morning. we are on our way over there in a couple of minutes but starting to see flood waters where we haven't seen them before, parking lots flooded out. streets flooded out. almost impassible. people still driving through it. we are seeing problems beginning and getting worse and i watched the flood waters are definitely rising, we will have to watch and see if they

reseed. it's raining out here. that's causing a big problem. >> we will check in with you thought the course of the morning. >> a power outage caused by sandy a nasty situation. there is a sewage overflow near the little patuxent river, 2 million gallons per hour of sewage are going in to the river. this is from u.s. 1, and route 32. crews are working to restore the power but are reminding people to stay out and away from the river because of the sewage. time for a check of the weather. >> all right. let's talk about what is going on with super storm sandy. it's blown ashore, you can see where it is right now. just off towards the knot of hagers -- north of hagerstown, that's putting down rainfall across the area. that will continue as we go in

to the afternoon. breaking this down, we can see that the green, that's the lighter rain, that's lighter steds dirain coming down, everybody is getting that, i got some reports on facebook, from joppa, victor said it's rainy and windy. thank you for that report. that's the heavier rain, we will see pockets thought the day. we are dealing with snow, across the west. look at the rain we are receiving now on top of the rain we got yesterday. these will continue to pile up as we go throughout the afternoon and in to tomorrow. with that a flood wanting for everybody shaded here in the green color, through today and it might be extended in to tomorrow. coastal flood wantings as well for the areas in the blue. we are going the go through high tide for fells point at 7:44, middle river 8:26. 11:49 port deposit. that's why the wanting is up for today. wind directions important for today's and the speed, now,

sustained, coming in at 9 in baltimore, from the south, at southwest, in easton, a southerly component for today. we will have the gusts, gusting up to about 35 miles an hour in spots now, gusts up to 22, 18 baltimore, and as we head towards ocean city, we are at 28, but i'm not going to rule out, we have the potential for power loss, some gusts could be up to maybe tropical storm forced winds. it won't be as bad as yesterday in terms of the wind. windy nonetheless. the power outages, the high threat across the areas in the orange and leaves on the trees, the heavy wet snow, see that in to maryland. the light at the end of the tunnel. we are chugging there, getting there. we will get you through this together. in to the end of the week we will see improvements. now a check of the time saver traffic with loren cook.
