sandy has come and gone and left a trail of damage in its wake. >> we have more on this week's scam alert. >> reporter: out of state utility crews came by the thousands to bail us out in the wake of sandy but they're not the only ones who made a move to maryland. when disaster strikes, storm chasers are often the first to pounce. they claim they can fix your damage but they want your cash. that can cost you big. that's why if you have fallen trees on your property, a damaged roof, even mold, you shouldn't let someone who knocks on your door do the work to fix it unless you do a little

of missouri with heavy rain. this is sort of the seed that will be coming nor'easter. more on that in a second. in the meantime here in ocean city today, cloudy start a very calm looking atlantic ocean. then a clear finish to the day but we're watching for higher than normal tides with that nor'easter running up the coa. bell hair clear skies. gorgeous dray in harford county. finishing out the day with a very early sunset basically right at 5 p.m. tough to get used to. that sun set at 5:01. right now 43. winds north. they have been higher than that, 5 to 10, gusting to 20. that creates wind chill. 35 in easton. feeling more like december than november and this freeze advisory driving home the point.
6:15 pm
all counties with a deep freeze expected, meaning below freezing for an hour or two. we're talking four or five hours, below freezing. some spots in the upper 20s. could see 26 in bel air. 32. tomorrow struggling to get much beyond 40. so it will be a chilly, chilly day. we're clear across maryland, delaware, virginia but a clear sky to help clear things will hd cover. we'll have the clouds beginning tomorrow night ahead have our next some. this nor'easter beginning to form off the florida coast, off the carolina coast. we're clear through tomorrow afternoon. early wednesday it's going to be interesting to she how close the system will track up the coast. if it comes in 50 miles closer,
6:16 pm
bigger tidal surge, you know, two, three, feet above normal and there will lab lot of wind, some gusts to 0 if the low comes in close to the coast. that could mean snow wrapping around. i think wet snow is limited accumulation. coating on the grassy surfaces. so keep a close eyen that nor'easter. 28, clear and frigid with a freeze warning. tomorrow 48. much of the early part of the day mid-40s. we'll also see the breezes picking up. we'll put rain and wet snow showers in for wednesday, lengering into early thursday morning. even that thursday morning drive could be impacted, a little slushy. all it takes to snarl traffic into thursday -- into friday rather, the sunshine back. it looks like a return to normal

well, let me give it a shot. if you're ok with marylanders spending five hundred and... fifty million a year gaming in other states, fair enough. but if you think we should keep that money here... add twelve thousand jobs, and generate millions for schools... well you should probably vote for question seven. because if it doesn't pass, all of this goes away. that's why the post called seven, common sense. but decide for yourself. maryland, it's time. time for marriage equality. question 6 strengthens protections for our churches and guarantees the civil right to commit to the one you love. while there are those trying to divide us, presidents obama and clinton stand with us. pastors, business leaders, newspapers, democrats and republicans are all coming together for question 6. because it's about fairness--
6:19 pm
treating everyone equal under the law. and who could be against that?

6:22 pm
ago? secondly, what is -- has dutch ruppersberger done. i don't think he has done anything to improve the bleak practice. as a former business owner, i think i know what it takes to create jobs in the private sector. the federal government has got to support small businesses and not by passing more taxes and strangling regulations. congress doesn't hold townhall meetings or make an effort to get out in the community to listen to people. being a member of congress is not a spectator sport. the issues are extremely important and you deserve more than a spectator. you deserve a teammate, someone who's going to roll up their sleeves and get to work and
6:23 pm
listen to you. after being in washington for over a decade dutch has become washington. he votes the way he's told to by his party bosses like nancy pelosi and claims to be a moderate. he's no moderate. if you elect me,ly work against the gridlock. i'm known in the maryland senate for working with parties from both. if you elect me, i will not do a disappearing act the day after the election. i will be responsive. i will listen and i will get things done on your behalf. >> we're dealing with a $16 trillion rate, unemployment at 8% and housing market shaky at best. where do you start to get solutions? >> we didn't get here overnight and will not get out of this overnight. as i mentioned before you can't strangle business. you can't scare business owners half to death wondering what
6:24 pm
they're going to be facing next with rising taxes. we're going it hit them with more taxes? we need to reassure them that it's safe to start looking ahead at building upon their business at hiring people. right now in this economy people are afraid. businesses, owners are afraid to take that risk to hire people because it is a risk. you never know when you will get slapped with more corporate taxes or regulations that just kill you as a business. >> former secretary of state condoleezza rice recently called education the civil rights struggle of our time. do you agree with that? and how wow address it? >> i do. a child should not be a prd of just -- product of just their environment. we have situation that is kids, just because of where they live have little choice but to go to
6:25 pm
a failing school. that's a travesty. that's not right. children should not have to go to a failing school because of their address. i think we can work to change that. i think we need to have some choices. at the state level, we're attempting in some areas to allow parents the choice to send their student, their child to another school that's not failing. america is the land of opportunity, no matter what role our aren'ts have in life, whether they're successful or no every child should be guaranteed a good education. look at ben cardin. he was raised in public housing. because of quality education, he became revered brain surgeon. >> we have about 30 seconds left what would you do with afghanistan? what's the end game?
6:26 pm
>> boy, what a mess. well, the first thing we need to do, we can't have a calendar that says we will end today. you have to look to the leadership, to the people who are there, the bosses, the arm mirks the military people because you just can't leave because it's a popular thing to do back home for your vote. you've got to exit after you are sure that they are stable, that there's a democracy in place and you've got to protect our people. >> state senator nancy jacobs who is running for progress. to see this, log on to abc2news.com/politics and don't forget to vote tuesday november 6th. >> all right. looks like we're going to have good weather for elections. >> we will' get vote in just fine tomorrow. a chilly day.
6:27 pm
