downtown baltimore. people will gather here in a few hours for the third annual veterans day parade. you know they will come out waving their flags all in support of the veterans. today is not just the day off for many folks but a day to remember those who have served our country so bravely and who are currently serving this country. today we slot them and baltimore -- salute them and baltimore mayor stephanie rawlings blake will be on hand starting this morning where it will wind its way downtown area and there will be a formal ceremony at the war memorial plaza. a number of streets will be closed this morning because of this parade. they will start closing streets about 7 a.m. and, of course, lauren cook will have more on the road closures and alternate routes for you. once again, that parade starts at 9 a.m. right here at mount vernon square. reporting live in downtown baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. businesses across the country want to give back to those who are giving their

lives protecting us. texas roadhouse in balledmore and every other location nationwide will give veterans and being a be -- baltimore and every other location nationwide will give veterans new lunches. mission barbeque are holding an event in honor of veterans daych the glen burnie based restaurant will offer complimentary sandwiches to those who served. charm city cakes will have a ceremony to unveil a cake replicating the iconic scene of u.s. marines raising the flag during the battle of iwo jima. to new york city where people spent the weekend honoring veterans. this is manhattan for the annual veterans parade. this year's event not only paid tribute to the military but organizers promoted it as rally for sandy victims as well. volunteers at the parade collected winter coats for those in need and nearly two weeks after the storm. president obama also paid tribute to men and women who served our country. the president and first lady

spent the morning at arlington national cemetery. he laid a wreath on the tomb of the enknown soldier. president o-- unknown soldier. he praise consider -- president obama praised military personnel and their family for sacrifices and say armed forces deserve more than a single day of commemoration. most of us know somebody who served in the armed forces so abc2 news is saluting veterans and we want to know who you are honoring. >> head to aby -- abc2 now is.com/facebook and let us know how you plan to commemorate the day. other top stories on this monday. a late night shooting a at taco bell in columbia during the weekend and still no arrest. the manager who is not been named yet remains in critical condition. howard county police say two men in the parking lot came up to him and started shooting. he was able to make it into the restaurant where two employees called 911. the taco bell was opened sunday evening but customers were learning what happened. neighboring business owners are coming up with plan to protect

thanks for joiningous than monday -- joining us on this money morning. they were running for their lives after a explosion ripped through the neighborhood. two people are dead and the damage is incredible. and it will cost more than $3 1/2 million to get the neighborhood back on its feet. charley has more on how victims are holding up. >> you hear about situations like this. communities coming together in the wake of tragedy and this morning that's what's happening in indianapolis. a church in that area turned into a relief center and will

have breakfast for children and parents before school and work. hundreds of volunteers spent the weekend gathering items like food, clothes, diapers and children's toys for those families affected. the explosion that happened late saturday night left two people dead and a number of others injured. two houses were destroyed and dozens of others seriously damaged after being engulfed in flames. some families were briefly allowed back into their homes to grab anything they could carry. one mother says she is going to have a lot of explaining to do once her son gets a little older. >> it's our 2-year-old who's the scaredest. he heard us talking. >> the microwayne opened and it shook the refrigerator open and knocked the picture off, blast every -- glass everywhere. >> officials are trying to figure out what caused the thunderous explosion sunday night and investigators initially believe it was a possible natural gas leak. >> we will look forward to updates on that story. some of the other stories

making headlines around the nation this morning, those from the big easy are lending a helping hand to victims in the big apple a team from zataran's served up thousands of meals to first responders and others affected by sandy. volunteers say their city was hit after katrina and they are paying it forward. it's lin two weeks since sandy slammed into the east coast and there are thousands without power. new york and new jersey homeowners are frust tateed with the -- frustrated slow pace. as of sunday 50,000 homes and businesses didn't have electricity and thousands more couldn't connect to the grid because the wiring was flooded. official was lipa say the storm was worse than expect and didn't have more than enough utility workers lined up. time for a check of the forecast and let's go over to lynette. >> let's talk about what's going on in terms of temperatures.

people getting out and about this morning. whether you have to go to work or not, temperatures coming in at 48 in tow sewn -- towson and churchville at 46. temperatures above average going through the day. we will be seeing temperatures boost u7 -- up a bit. wind out of south and we are dealing with patchy fog in spots this morning as well. so be prepared for that. satellite and radar not picking up on a whole lot but that pink elephant in the room is right there back off towards the west. we can see some green and yellow and oranges. all that will be working its way towards us but also on the backside of the front we are picking up a little bit of the blue and pink. mixed precipitation working its way into illinois. so this goes to show you how cold this front is going to be coming through. and we can see as we look ahead, so for a today, we are going to be on the warm side of the front so we will have another mild day on tap. but then that front moves through and this is what we can expect for tuesday as the jet stream dips down to the south bringing that chillier air in. we are talking about temperatures in the as -- 50s
