work and you guys need to take charley's advice because we're looking at temperatures in the low 30s, below freezing in a lot of spots this morning as well. elkton coming in at 33 degrees. galena at 34. the winds will be out of the north today. they won't be as breezy or as windy as we have been feeling them. and also we're going to get plenty of sunshine as we go throughout the day. we do have that dry air working in, that front out of here. we do have the sweeps on scanning the skies, but not a whole lot to scan in the way of rain. now, we look at the planner for your day, a frosty start to the day, waking up to temperatures about 32 degrees. as we go through your lunchtime hour, 46 degrees, lots of sunshine, but we will remain on the chilly side. let's get a check now of the abc 2 news time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. if you are traveling in mount vernon, we are still dealing with water main break repairs. now, madison street has reopened. you're able to take that down and make a left onto guilford avenue to travel all the way downtown. but as the morning rush does progress, you will want to

expect congestion. and this was a look at the scene from yesterday. you'll notice a lot of construction in the area. that will be the same case. they did, however, make a lot of progress yesterday, the 30- inch main that did burst and no word yet on exactly when it will be finished. you will want to stick with calvert street or 83 instead to avoid the delays. if you are traveling this morning, 83 going to be your best option. and this is what it looks like just north of 695. normal conditions in the area, no problems traveling from southbound from 695 all the way to downtown. that stretch will take you just 11 minutes. and the beltway nice and clear all the way around you're looking at an 11-minute ride on the outer loop 95 to 83 and there are no problems to report on thed of the beltway. no normal conditions there as well. traveling the outer loop from 795 to 95, you're looking at an 11-minute stretch. charley, over to you. we have breaking news for you this morning out of reisterstown. a woman sleeping in her bed is now clinging to life in a

hospital. a fire broke out and destroyed her home just after 1:00 this morning. abc 2 news sherree johnson is live at bayview hospital with all the details. sheree, what do you know right mou? >>reporter: yes, we are here at bayview medical center where that elderly woman was brought here just a few hours ago after fire broke out at her home. take a look at this video that we shot overnight. that fire broke out about 1:00 this morning at 20 blake court in reisterstown. when crews arrived at the scene, it was fully engulfed in flames. they found an elderly woman on the second floor. she was brought here to bayview burn center with severe burns. we are told that she is in critical condition at this time and it took about 15 minutes for crews to actually put that fire out. they had about 60 firefighters at one time with 50 different types of vehicles on the scene, working on that fire. now, crews tell me that when they arrived they heard the smoke detectors going off from the basement area, so they do know that the home had working smoke detectors. now, right now there's no word on a cause of this fire, but fire investigators are on the

scene investigating, trying to figure out exactly what happened here. but, again, an elderly woman brought here to bayview burn center in critical condition after an overnight fire at her home. reporting live in south baltimore, sherree johnson, abc 2 news. >> sherree, stay on top of that for us this morning. in other news now, the fbi and the cia are expected to brief lawmakers on exactly what they know about the petraeus sex scandal. the scandal has widen the spotlight now and shines on a top u.s. military commander in afghanistan, general john allen. officials uncovered thousands of what they're calling potentially inappropriate e- mails between general allen and tampa socialite jill kelley. kelley is the woman who sparked the investigation into petraeus and paula broadwell. she called 911 yesterday to complain about reporters who had gathered outside her home. >> i'm an honoree council general, so i have involability. so they should not be able to cross my property. i don't know if you want to get diplomatic protection involved

as well. but now they cross my property [ [ indiscernable ] >> kelley has done volunteer work with the military, but she is not a paid employee. the deadline to pull u.s. troops out of afghanistan is set to end in 2014, but not every troop will be coming home. defense secretary leon panetta says that the administration is still working on some of the post-pullout details. he says a decision should be made in the coming weeks about how many troops will remain in afghanistan to help with security training and to conduct a counterterrorism mission against al-qaida. some dramatic pictures for you this morning out of jackson, mississippi where a small plane crashed into a home. that house erupted into flames as soon as the plane came down. all three people on board that aircraft died. just the person inside the home, you see this house completely engulfed, they made it out with minor injuries. witnesses say the plane looked like it was sputtering or out of fuel and it just taken off from a nearby airport. she was the doctor of the year, now she's behind bars. take a look at this video.

this is a crash caught on camera. dr. kristin howard was behind the wheel of an suv that comes out of a parking lot, runs over the grassy area and then crashes into a car. the impact pushes that car into a truck driving the opposite way in the next lane. watch this again. dr. howard, you see the suv, car, truck, chain reaction, dr. howard is currently charged with dwi. water main breaks are becoming all too common here in baltimore, but we've never seen anything like what they're dealing with in one california neighborhood. an 80-year-old pipe burst triggering a huge mudslide, debris, silt and mud gathering in the front of homes and burying cars as the water all ran downhill. 12 homes were evacuated because of this break. >> it breaks my heart. that was my first car. it's a family car right now, but i just want to cry. i can't believe it's halfway up there. we can't even get out of it. >> here's some perspective for you, things could always be worse. other neighbors down the street brought out their own shovels and hoses, trying to dig their way out.

but for others it was simply no use. the pipe was originally built in the 1930s and crews are now working to replace it. this may be our story of the day for you on "good morning maryland," a delivery driver says he thought it was a prank, but when he had his car full of chinese food stolen, what's even more strange now is the orders all made it to their customers. turns out this is all part of the suspect's plan. police say the key ties kept driving the delivery car, making the deliveries and cashing in on those tips. >> that morning i was watching a prank show, my brother, i saw my brother and him were in on it and messing with my head. i was just, like, you know, crazy. >> the delivery driver gave police the list of houses he was set to go to to make those deliveries. well, sure enough that's where they tracked heinz down. a total blackout right now thanks to celestial bodies lining up perfectly. coming up we'll take you to the land down under for a look at the total eclipse in the

he was eating lunch in the cafeteria on the first day of school when he was almost killed. now the community is rallying around david beroe to celebrate his return to school at perry hall high school and abc 2 news' linda stow is here with these details. linda, what is the community doing now to honor that young man? >>reporter: well, they held a blood drive at perry hall high, in the same cafeteria where the 17-year-old student was shot and lost a lot of blood. daniel is finally well enough to go back to school. he returned last week more than two months after being shot by another student on the first day of school. to celebrate his return, more than 70 people came out to donate blood. students volunteered in the university of maryland medical center hosted the blood drive. >> daniel needed more than 10 pints of blood. i mean, he needed a lot of other care, obviously, based on the shooting, but, you know, the blood was really one of the critical components that he needed to survive. >>reporter: and the university of maryland medical center will be hosting another blood drive tomorrow. it'll be held on the lower level of the packa pratt

long lines getting through security. today bwi is announcing plans to begin tsa precheck operations. certain frequent flyers traveling with u.s. airways, delta and united will be able to get through those screenings more quickly. bwi is the 32nd airport to offer the program. it has more than 4 million people annually. parking garages in annapolis will soon have rest rest rooms available to use 24/7. more details are being announced today. the mayor and a number of councilmembers and business leaders are expected to take part. we'll have that information for you at abc2news.com. it's that time of year again when the chain saw is revved up to go to work for the sake of the season. and it's going to be taking a pretty big saw to cut through the trunk of the 82-foot tall tree that will become the centerpiece at rockefeller center. this year's tree is a norway spruce that survived sandy's winds in mount olive, new jersey. it will be lit up in a ceremony november 28th. speaking of the holidays, bloomingdale's has unveiled its holiday display in new york.

can't rise, the air can't rise and if they can't rise, then it can't form the clouds and if you don't have clouds, then you don't have rain, so that's the whole scenario there. that's what we will contend with as we head through the rest of today. now future trend not picking up on a whole lot. follow the timeline or you'll wonder what day we're in, but we will have days upon days where we're dealing with sunshine in the forecast. mostly sunny stod and that will continue as we head through the next several days. so today that temperature coming in at 49 degrees, below average. we should be at 58 degrees, struggling to get to 50. some spots might see 50, but even still very cold nonetheless. tonight even colder. we will be below freezing under those clear skies, that temperature coming in at 31 degrees. and by tomorrow 52, continued sunshine, still a bit chilly. we haven't hit that 57 and we will stay that way even in your seven-day forecast. look at what we have here, yes, we have lots of sunshine wednesday, thursday, friday, more clouds on saturday, but still sunshine, and our next chance for some rain will move in here by the end of the
