beams. you can see more of the road and less of the fog. traveling on 95 a crash is cleared from the northbound lanes at route 32. we do have an accident on columbia pike right along the southbound lanes at bridge changey road. and we look -- cheney road. as we look at 83 that's due to the fog, advicibility is poor and all the more -- visibility is poor all the more reason to slow down. more foggy conditions at har foreroad. you want to -- harford road. you want to wap out for an accident on -- watch out for an accident on the outer loop at york road. 6:31a boughtmore county police officer is recovering at home this morning after being shot in his car and off duty at the time. they are looking for the gunman and sherrie johnson explains it looks like he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. correct. >> reporter: that's right. he was trying to get through a large crowd of people when that shooting happened. the baltimore county police officer was treated and

released from shock trauma. he was not on duty when he was hurt and that shooting happened near dale and kenwood avenues in overlea. he was driving just after 3 in the morning on sunday when he came across a group blocking the road and asked them to move out of the way so he could get through and all of a sudden a man came out of the group and fired several shots into the officer's car. the officer was shot twice and officers say it was random and the officer was not targeted. minutes before that shooting there was a call to police about a fight in the area from that same address. police are investigating this case. and they have not released the name of the officer involved or information about a suspect. if you have information about the shooting call county plates 410-307-2020. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. he gave his life to save someone's elses a member of the u.s. special ops team followed during a rescue mission in afghanistan.

good monday morning thanks for joining us i am megan pringle. this is your abc2 news to go. we will start off with lynette charles who has been very busy this morning because there's nasty fog out there.

>> yes. we have a dense fog advisory that's in effect until 9 this morning. and we have a little change in the forecast. so before we had it for the entire viewing area. caroline county is not under it as well as talbot so that's good news and queen anns is not under it. but because it's not dense doesn't mean there's no fog out there. so you are going to be dealing with fog this morning. so that means that nothing changed. you need to take it easy heading out and about this morning. maryland's most powerful radar is dry right now. we still probably have some drizzle out there. and you hear me say probably because the radar doesn't pick up on drizzle because the droplets are too small. so don't be surprised if you step out and about and there is some misting and drizzle across the area. but what i can tell you is that these temperatures are not cold this morning. they are well above average coming in at 44 degrees right now in churchville. and a late 48. close to 50. these temperatures will soar even if we don't get sunshine

for today. but if we get sunshine today, it's a possibility that some places may hit 70 a but all in all we will have showers moving into the picture. and also not going to rule out a rumble of thunder as we go into the afternoon. that high coming in at 65 degrees for today. it's going to be a mild day. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the rain left the roads slick and fog is certainly a huge problem across the region. there's limited reduced visibility really, really playing a huge factor in your commute this morning. we have several accidents trouble in howard county where there's a crash on columbia pike along the southbound lanes atbriggs changey road. and westbound 1 hundred haunt route 10. baltimore county has a crash on 695 in towson on the outer loop at york road. also watch out for a malfunctioning traffic light on york road at northern parkway and it's important to treat that as a four-way stop. and as we check in and look live at the northwest corner of 695, foggy conditions will

continue here at liberty road. altogether you are looking at a 13 minute ride on outer loop from 795 to 95. and as we head up to hunt valley, this is what 83 looks like. you can't see it much at all here at shawan road due to the heavy fog in the area. so, definitely turn on the low beams and take it slow this morning as you head out. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic now over to you. 6:46. we have seen that flash and hoped we wouldn't get a ticket in the mail and now state lawmakers want answers to questions about those speed cameras. the state highway administration audit found that some people are being fined even though they shunned have been. delegate cardin is calling on state and baltimore city lawmakers to find a way to make sure that all of those cameras are working properly. the press conference is scheduled forenoon today in front of the district courthouse downtown. we will keep you posted on what happens. the speaker and president sat down to talk about how to avoid paying more in taxes and how to avoid cutting important programs.

it appears that no solution was reached. that meeting was a surprise to many and that's because it was not on the president's official schedule. sherrie johnson is here to tell us what happens next and sherrie the president nor speaker john boehner are saying much about the meeting. >> reporter: the president and house -- spooker said the lines of communication remains open. the the president heads to michigan to drum up support for avoiding fiscal cliff. republicans and democrats remain far from a deal but president obama and the house speaker met face-to-face for the first time in nearly a month. a source familiar with the meeting says republicans ready hikes for the rich. some gop law makers say they are open to raising more tax revenue especially with democrats putting on the table holding the top tax rate below 39.6%. they seem to be moving closer on entitlements. >> when you have two guys tangoing you have a chance to

get it done. >> i do believe there should be means testing and those with higher income in retirement should pay more. that could be part of the solution. >> it's going to be a lot of suffering among a lot of people who deserve otherwise. >> reporter: now if washingtoncan't strike a deal automatic spending cuts will go into effect and every american will see a tax hike. there's 22 days left before that cliff some lawmakers believe a deal is needed this week with the president and speaker hoping to win approval by the end of the year. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. we have health news for you right now. parents you may want to limit the amount of sodium in your child's diet. a new australian study finds that children who eat more salty foods tend to drink more sugar sweetened drinks which increases the risk of obesity. >> so when you tend to eat salty foods you crave more fluid and a lot of times they pick sweetened beverages and that's insult on top of injury because now they get the

calorie filled beverages increasing their weight. >> researchers studied the link between salt consumption and fluid intake among more than 4,000 children for the study. ten tons of sugar will be dumped outside middle school tomorrow. it represents the amount of sugar an average sized school would come could be soup if every student drank one 12-ours soft drink every day for a year. it's going to be dumped at the school and also at tomorrow's event unveiling of the better beverage finder an online tool to help parents find better drink choices for their kids other than sugary drinks. josh brent has been released from jail after posting 500,000 dollar bond. he was arrested for the car crash that killed his teammate jerry brown junior. police say brent's mercedes was traveling at high rate of speed saturday when it struck a curb and flipped and caught on fire. brent was arrested on suspicion of intoxication and manslaughter.

morning. a giant winter storm dumped a foot and a half of snow in some places and here's abc's ginger zee to take you there. >> reporter: more than 150 flights canceled. 300 crashes on minnesota roads and roads across westernminnesota are shutting down dewing to blowing snow. what will likely be the big of the snowstorm in two years around the twin cities is dropping more than a foot and a half of snow in parts of the northern plains and western great lakes. look at the images from the slow moving fargo north dakota. the snow coming down in inch an hour at times. frozen and a sunday snowstorm in duluth minnesota, too. and in iowa, kcrg captured these time-lapse video blustery and super cold and the state in a fresh coat of winter white. >> that was ginger zee reporting. and now, our area we want to hear from meteorologist lynette charles because it's foggy and hard to see your hand in front of your face. so a concern for people heading

out the door this morning. >> exactly. they might be dealing with snow but we have the fog. let's talk about what's going on in terms of when it's going to get out of here. it will take a while. we have a dense fog advisory until 9. but once that is canceled, once that is over, we will have the fog. it's going to be a dreary day. we can see lots of clouds around right now. back off towards the west, we have showers that are going to move through the area as well. so as you step out the door this morning, don't forget the rain gear because you will need it. you can see for yourself what's going on in bel air. we have wet roadways this morning and look at the camera. yes, the camera is wet not that clear due to the rain and the fog that we are going to continue to get as we go through the morning hours and also even the afternoon. mount airy we are dealing with fog across the area. and this will continue through the morning and then get out of here and return as we go back into the afternoon. so, it won't be as dense this afternoon but you will see the patchy fog in some areas. this morning, i told you that

you needed the rain gear right? well, you don't need the big coat like you've had needed in the past. because the temperatures are well above average. look at 51 in mount airy. we are seeing 46 in hanover and 49 in gaithersburg traveling through that area. 43 kingsville and 50 in stevensville and 55 in denton and cambridge coming in at 53 degrees this morning. now, at the surface, the reason why we are going to get so warm is well a warm front will move through the area. temperatures in the mid-60s and close to 70 if we get sunshine. but even without the sunshine those winds out of the south going to make the temperatures bump up for today. there's the cold front that's going to move through. warm air cold air and yes, we could see thunderstorms hear rumble of thunder as we go into the afternoon. that's not out of the question. future trend not picking up on a whole lot. just a clouds and a few showers possible but behind that, high pressure will build in and we will get more sunshine in the

forecast. and also, temperatures are going to fall by tomorrow, but, they will not fall that much. we will be seasonable. 65 for today. and that's what i am forecasting. 45 degrees by tonight with spotty showers still possible and here's high temperature for tomorrow. 52 degrees under partly sunny skies. and yes it will be cooler but temperatures still slightly above average because we should be at 47 degrees for this time of the year. and as we head into wednesday, temperatures at 48 degrees and the next chance for rain on sunday. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook good morning. >> reporter: good morning. fog is going to be the main concern there's reduced advice ability across the region. so turn on the low beams and -- visibility across the region. so turn on the low beams and take it easy westbound route 100 at route 10, something to watch out for. and in baltimore we have a crash on edmonton and poplar grove street and another downtown right on baltimore street that's at gay street. if you are traveling on 695, here's a live look in towson at york road. a crash cleared from the outer
