high school. old frederick road now closed at bracken drive. stick with interstate 70 as the alternate route and that will in fact be clear from columbia pike over to 695. here's just north of 195. everything moving along no problems from elkridge do town town baltimore and 695 the west side starting to pick up a bit. but no significant delays whatsoever. it's going to take you eight minutes on that outer loop from 795 all the way down to 95. megan and charlie, over to you. a day care worker is accused of beating a 2-year-old boy. 19-year-old jonathan cummings has been charged with child abuse and assault. police say cummings worked as a caregiver at the unlicensed day care inside a home in pg county. we're told a witness recorded a video of cummings beating that boy and immediately called police. >> the video shows that the suspect was standing up and next to him is this 2-year-old child and then for no apparent reason the suspect lashes out with his leg and strikes the 2- year-old child. 2-year-old child falls to the

ground. >> cummings is currently out on bond and police say he admitted to kicking the boy. now there's concern of other victims. baby who was shot in a mother's womb is now home from the hospital. baby skylar's mom was shotted in head and stomach back on december 9th outside of a convenience store in miami. a bullet hit skylar's arm and doctors were forced to deliver her more than a month early. the mother is still recovering and has yet to meet her daughter. >> a lot of pictures and stuff but she hasn't gotten to you know see her. she hasn't seen her at all and it's kind a bit of a sad thing you know what i mean? >> baby skylar will have a wear a cast on her arm but otherwise it's home with her family. a robbery at a convenience store the caught on camera and we want to warn you the pictures that you see they are kind of dit tushing. however the did owe -- disturbing. however the video does bring an act of generosity to light. a man dressed in black walked

in the door alone at 4:20 in the morning. >> that guy took the -- iced tea. walked to the clerk and then he claimed i think he didn't have any money on him. so my employee paid for his drink from his own pong. >> the two men shook hands before the customer went outside. but instead of leaving the man came back inside with three other men. they had baseball bats and they smashed everything in sight. they hit the clerk repeatedly with those baseball bats. then they pulled the cash drawer out and grabbed the money and took off. well a little bit of a lighter note. who could forget the video of this guy? a guy dressed up as a clown brawling with a police officer. well, he showed up in a milwaukee, wisconsin courtroom wearing the same outfit and he did so yesterday. this was part of a hearing he had scheduled for yesterday. it's now been moved to march. the scuffle happened back in november when the officer tried to arrest kenneth crockus after responding to reports of a clown standing on the street with a toy gun. he comes to court dressed up as a clown. he was blocking traffic back in

he is retired from racing, but apparently has found a new hobby. >> forget mr. ed. this morning a horse that's become a very popular artist. >> on a beautiful snow-covered farm north of frederick, lives is retired racehorse named -- >> and they're off. >> metro meteor. bad knees forced his retirement from racing in 2009 and more recently, even from casual trail rides. >> come on bud. >> the owner searched for something that metro could do to fill his days. he found his answer with a little nudge from metro. >> he was sitting here and just bob up and down, up and down. >> the artist in him took notice. >> if i could teach him to hold a paint brush we can make some paintings together.

thursday morning, this is your abc2 news to go. i'm megan pringle. >> and i'm charlie crowson. let's begin with lauren cook and the abc2 timesaver traffic report. >> we are dealing with problems across the region. we have a new accident right now megan and charlie in anne arundel county. it's right along the northbound lanes of 97 right past route 40. and in howard county, we are dealing with a car that crashed into a pole and now there's a transformer fire. it closed old frederick road. stick with interstate 70 which is nice and clear. you won't have any problems getting over to 695. big problems on 83 with an overturned tractor-trailer she's shut down the northbound lanes at belfast road. i just spoke with maryland state police and they said the

northbound lanes of belfast are expected to reopen around 7:00 this morning. here's 695 and traffic in parkville at harford road. no problems on the inner loop down towards 95 and that outer loop clear up towards towson. as far as the west side is concerned, traffic certainly starting to pick up here at liberty road. it will be a big sluggish on the outer loop down to route 40. that's a look at your traffic. now for a look at the forecast, here's meteorologist lynette charles. good morning lynette. >> good morning lauren. good morning everyone. stepping out the door the morning, temperatures are well above average. but we do have a windchill so we're feeling kind of chilly. so make sure you dress accordingly. as we see in clarksville the temperature coming in at 41 degrees. we're at 37 reisterstown. ijamsville at 40. and centreville 42 and 43 in easton. along the eastern shore. maryland's most powerful radar is dry right now. and it will stay that way as we go throughout the day. we do have high pressure that will build in and we'll get some sunshine in here as well. mixing with those clouds. but all in all, it's going to

be a pretty good day. temperatures will stay above average going somewhere 52 degrees by 3:00 and with those clouds temperatures will slowly drop off this evening. megan and charlie, over to you. in less than two yours students at one year high school dealt with more loss than any teenager should be forced to. ten students or recent grads from the mead high school have died. this afternoon there will be a memorial service at the auditorium to remember those who lost their lives. at the end of the ceremony, everyone will head out to the football field to release balloons honoring the students. in december alone two students were killed after being hit by a car in separate incidents. a story that we first brought you on abc2 that quickly got national attention. school busings running -- buses running red lights and speeding, today clark sun vail -- is unveiling her bill. it requires all citations given to school vehicles be submitted to the city each quarter. how early does your child

have to get up to bet to school on time? some parents in anne arundel county want to see it change. they're presenting a petition to the school board and the superintendent today asking for classes to begin later. right now they say high school begins at 7:17 and some students have to be on board the bus as early as 5:50 in the morning. they want classes to begin at 8:00 a.m. or later. head to the facebook page here at station station and let us know with you think -- abc2 and let you know with you think. with fighting the flu, schools are doing what they can to keep thes insy virus from spreading -- nasty virus from spreading. 18 kids already died from the flu this career. >> abc2 news health reporter linda so is here with what we need to know and linda what are schools doing? >> reporter: they're doing what they can to keep things as clean as possible. lots of hand washing, hand sanitizers. and reminders of how to properly cover the cough. doctors say the best way is to cough into your elbow.

you can find all of the information at abc2news.com/flu. and a new tool to find breast cancer cells is being developed. a company in nevada has created a bra that detects temperature changes in a woman's breast which could signal cancer. you wear it for 12 hours once a year and the company compiles all the data and then sends it to a doctor. according to trials this bra is very accurate. >> so against the screening mammogram in young and dense breasted women, false rates of 5%. >> the company hopes to have their bra available for public use by the middle of next year. and you already feel like you're being robbed at the pump. and you don't want to be squeezed anymore? well guess ma. things could be getting a little president tighter. if some lawmakers get their way. abc2 news' sherrie johnson is live this morning to explain why and the session just started. we're already talking taxes.

>> reporter: that's exactly right. we are live here in towson on joppa road right across the street from a gas station here and yes lawmakers in annapolis are already talking about making you pay more at the pumps. yesterday, governor martin o'malley suggested the idea of adding a penny to the state's gas tax to help pay for needed transportation projects in maryland. according to published reports upping the sales tax by a penny raises about $700 million a year for needed transportation projects. in the past the governor and legislative leaders have attempted to extend the state's sales tax to gasoline. during the 2012 regular session, lawmakers could not agree on the governor's plan to raise the state's 23.5 cents a gallon gas tax. right now legislators who support an increase admit it's not a popular idea. now republican in annapolis say the majority of democrats should not expect help from them on any increase in taxes. >> what we need to do is to start spending the transportation dollars on the

things that they were allotted for. if we do that we don't need to raise any taxes. >> we may have to be very creative when we look at ways in which we address the transportation issues but obviously something has to be done at some point. >> reporter: well, legislators say it's too early to determine what a gas tax proposal might look like. reporting live in towson, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. president barack obama will have an all-star musical lineup when he is sworn in for his second term later this month. we're talking about beyonce, kelly clarkson, james taylor. they're all set to perform at the presidential inauguration. beyonce will sing the national anthem and kelly clarkson will perform "my country 'tis of three." and according to the white house president obama has a hand in picking the performers. all right, our singer fantasia will be heading to new orleans for the super bowl. the grammy wanier is set to --
