but it wasn't too far away. we'll find out on this thursday morning, february 7th. thank you for joining us and "good morning maryland." i'm charlie crowson. >> and i'm megan pringle. i think people are like i don't care if it wasn't in maryland. >> not mine and get on with it. >> maybe it's your uncle. thank you for joining us. it is thursday morning. the weekend is coming. we have a lot to talk about as far as the weather goes. because a storm is brewing and lynette i know a lot of people hear about this and they want to know is it going to hit us? >> yes the storm is going to hit us but we won't get the brunt of the storm. we're not going to get the blizzard conditions and not even see much snow with this. we're going to get the rain part of the system. but for the morning we are dealing with some patchy fog across the area. so reduced visibility in baltimore. also hagerstown and even york traveling up i-83 this morning. but temperature-wise we're cold. we're supposed to be cold. coming in at 27 degrees ellicott city. 26 in millersville. and also sykesville. the good news right now is that the winds are calm but they will pick up from the east throughout the day and the east is a good word.

that is showing you what's going to be happening. maryland's most powerful radar is dry right now and we should be that way throughout the day. to the evening that's when we'll start to get the effects of that system. the onset of the system. well maybe a little bit of a mix with some sleet also some snow and then switching all over the rain as we head throughout the day. i'll explain more of that coming up. this is what you can expect at 8:00. 29 degrees and 36 degrees by lunchtime. the high temperature at 40 and once again we will have plenty of clouds around as we go through the remainder of today. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynned. well if you are traveling in -- lynette. well if you are traveling in anne arundel county watch out for a crash in receive earn. now 97. that will be nice and clear. we aren't experiencing any delays heading down to route 50 or up towards 695. here's a live look at the west side of the beltway at baltimore national pike. traffic starting to pick up but you're still looking at just an eight minute ride on the outer loop from 795 down to 70.

and here's what the beltway looks like in parkville at harford road. inner loop nice and clear down to 95. traffic also on the outer loop here picking up but just 11 minutes to travel from 95 up to 83. as we take a look at the other abc2 timesaver traffic drive times, 95234 white marsh no concerns there. you're looking at a 14 minute ride southbound from the beltway all the way into the city. and the tunnels are going to be in great shape this morning as well. that's a look at your morning commute. megan and charlie, over to you. 6:32 right now. and new this morning, police have charged a man in the death of a woman in owings mills. take a look at the picture. this is jeffrey schefflett. they just sent us this mug shot with this information. he is arrested and accused of stabbing a woman to death named katie haydel. we brought you the story yesterday on "good morning maryland." her body was found in a home in the apartments shortly after 10:00 on tuesday night. two children were found inside of that home. they were not harmed. police say that jeffrey and

katie had a relationship. however police are not releasing any information about the nature of that relationship. a double shooting in harford county left a teenager dead and another recovering. now the community is coming together. abc2 news' sherrie johnson has more on the story and lot of people surprised by what happened. >> reporter: yes, a lot of people are -- it's going to be a very tough day today charlie for folks as they come together. and tonight, friends and family will gather for a vigil to remember the life of 17-year- old michael kearins. the teen was killed in a double shooting in edgewood. those who knew him will return to the scene of the crime tonight for a vigil. now kearins and 18-year-old christopher cousins were both shot last week. they went to the park for a meeting and there was a confrontation and shots were fired. kearins was taken to the upper chesapeake medical center in bel air. now cousins was flown to shock trauma where he was in good condition at last report. 21-year-old garfield smith iii was arrest asked charges with a number of -- arrested and

charged with a number of crimes including first and second degree murder. the vigil will be held tonight at 7:30 at counion park in edgewood. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. a bizarre accident in san diego to tell you about and the video is pretty incredible. check this out. we want to show you this car that's suspended in outdoor staircase and police say a 70- year-old man lost control of his car. crashing through a gate over a curb and right into a met gal forward rail. it -- metal guardrail. it took a while but after they did, they got him out and he wasn't hurt. the owner of a frozen yogurt franchise in utah is offering his store as a soap box. he's offering $1 off for anyone with a concealed weapons permit. he says gun owners don't get a share fake in the -- fair shake in the u.s. >> every time somebody -- some wacko goes on a shooting spree, the top leaders of our country decide it's time to take guns

away from everybody who didn't do it. and i personally think you need to stand up and say something about that. >> young's plan was initially to offer discount for a day but says the response so far has been great and he's going to keep it up. under the right circumstances a simple fire can turn into a blow torch. atf agents are right now studying the phenomenon and it burned a middle river girl last winter. abc2 news investigators were allowed the watch atf engineers recreate a fire. >> here we recreated the science basically behind this. >> exactly. so we documented it using high speed cameras, thermal imaging cameras and we look at it from a scientific basis to understand exactly what's happening. with no information out there we had to do the tests ourselves. >> you can sew what engineers told abc2 news investigator and hear from the teenager about the last thing she saw before

this weekend, actor steven seagal is going to be teaching volunteers how to protect children in schools, a sheriff in arizona create at posse program. he has a martial arts ex- president and currently a deputy in texas. the 83-year-old was hospitalized after fainting

the calm before the storm. >> and as we go through the day, we'll begin to see the clouds continue to move in across that area. we can see the storms back there and you can actually see them right here. these are the two storms one to the north and one to the south. these will come together and this will be our weather maker as we head into tomorrow. but in the meantime, what we're going to be dealing with today? not a whole lot. we are beginning to have the temperatures coming in on to cold side. 24 degrees right now in glenelg and 29 in annapolis. the winds are light to calm. they will be about 5 to 10 miles an hour through the east for today picking up in the afternoon. 26 degrees right now in elkton and temperatures everywhere else in the upper 20s around ricer town and in boston this morning as well. then we head to our planner and that is what it looks like. the clouds increasing throughout the day and we will be pretty cloudy by third quarter. be prepared for -- 3:00. be prepared for that. high temperature at 43-degrees and then in the evening 7:00 we could see a little bit of mixed precipitation move into the area. and then by tomorrow switching all over the rain. i'll detail that and more coming up but right now let's

get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good evening lynette. we have several accidents to tell you about and trouble in anne arundel county where there's a crash in severn. right at harmons road and more problems for those of you in baltimore county. we are dealing with a crash right now in essex on back river neck road that's going to be right at middleborough road. on the beltway traffic is really starting to pick up. here's a live look in parkville at harford road. now the inner loop will be clear. as you make the push from 83 down to 95. but that outer loop starting to congest average speed clocking in at just 43 miles an hour. hunt valley. 83 nice and clear. no problems traveling from the maryland and pennsylvania state line and tall way down to the beltway. and it will be remaining clear from the jfx on to the city. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. megan and charlie, over to you. the morning we have a developing story out of anne arundel county. this comes after an arsenal of weapons was seized from a man who police say snuck into a

high school earlier this week. we should mention those weapons as we understand are legal. but abc2 news' sherrie johnson has more on this story. what's the latest with this case? >> reporter: just a very suspicious case and police just want to keep students safe and so this morning, we know that 25-year-old justin beaumont, he's at shepherd pratt and basically he's being held for an marge mental evaluation. -- emergency mental evaluation. police aren't sure why he went to north county high school on monday. officers went to his home in glen burr knee and found and we alert. -- went into high alert. police found an ak-47 and an uzi and several pistol. they also found another pistol with a silencer and magazines full of ammunition. he legally bought and owns all of the weapons they found and beaumont attended north county high school in 2002 but only for two months. police say he came back to the school on monday and was trying to open several doors. he finally followed school employee inside through a door

near the loading dock. now police say he had no weapons on him and he didn't threaten anyone. >> post-connecticut, we have got to recognize as an agency, as a nation, as a state, that our school children -- we have to take these kind of precautionary thorough investigative steps to make sure that we do everything we can to keep them safe. >> reporter: justin beaumont is charged with trespassing which is a misdedemeanor. if he is released. he'll have to go through another legal process of applying to get his weapons returned. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. it looks like we are going to have to wait a few more months for the boy scouts of america to decide will to lift a ban on -- whether to lift a ban on gay scouts and leaders. they immediate for time and -- need more time and input. it will be made at the annual neating many day. -- meeting in day. gay rights advocates have been

urging the boy scouts to lift the ban. you know you usually find a- listers on the red carpet. but on wednesday, tony bennett and other celebrities came to d.c. pushing for more gun control. the group of actors, comedians and activists say the proposals were made by president obama to reduce gun -- gun violence and they're behind them. that includes the semiautomatic ban on rifles, modeled after military weapons. >> i still haven't gotten over connecticut and like the assault weapons to go to war. not in our own country. >> the president and the first lady are kind of like the mom and the dad of the country. and when your dad says something, you listen. >> vice president joe biden's also trying to rally democrats in congress to act on president barack obama's proposal. he spoke to them on wednesday and the president is expected to be at the retreat tomorrow. mail delivery is coming to an end on saturdays.

the post office says that they plan to cut back to five day a week deliveries for first class mail. the change would start at the beginning of august. we're still going to be able to get mail ordered pixes,est press -- prescriptions, express mail and packages on saturdays. this will save the post office billions of dollars. coming up restaurant week in annapolis from february 25th to march 3rd you can treat yourself to some great food. at a reasonable price. the two course meal is going to run you about $16. and at least 39 restaurants are taking part. in annapolis' restaurant week. five things to know on this thursday morning. the pomp and circumstance has subsided and now we're going to hear from the ravens staff about the super bowl win. the owner and coach harbaugh will attend. home depot is now hiring. the retailer needs more than 80,000 new workers for its spring season. that's 10,000 more than it hired last year at this time. home depot says those jobs include both part and full-time positions. someone did match all the

winning numbers in last night's powerball drawing. the bad news? the wink ticket was not bought in maryland. it actually came from the richmond, virginia area. and the exact location will be revealed later on today. that jackpot got up to $217 million before the drawing. so all of the end of the world movies actually come true. where's bruce willis when you need him? nasa is saying not so fast. they're going to be talking about a large asteroid that's going to have a close to earth pass by around 17,000 miles to be act come friday. students are helping spread the word about the new trends in car theft at towson university. they were have had to make a -- they were asked to make a psa. today they are being awarded a $7,000 in scholarship money for their work on the public service announcement. and speaking of cars one great way to get the family out of the house this weekend no matter how bad the weather might be is that car show happening at the baltimore convention center. >> abc2 news' linda so is down

difficult to parts of wisconsin. the wisconsin d. o. t. was out in full force plowing the roads and treating the area. some people were even saying they're used to this kind of stuff but even this was a bit extreme. now, that doesn't make the driving any easier just because you're used to it because the pearls are still out there -- perils are still out there megan. they sure are. here's meteorologist lynette charles. lynette. i know you said there's a storm coming -- we're not going to get it too bad but when is this going to hit? >> it starts tomorrow morning megan and actually starts tonight and it will be affecting us as we go into tomorrow morning. so we're talking about wintry mix. we're talking about sleet, snow, rain mixing in. and then it will switch all over the rain as we go -- to rain as we go later into the morning hours into the afternoon and on the tail end of it, well, we're going to wind up with some snow. so tail end meaning saturday morning early. this is what it looks like right now. we have the two systems one to the north and the other one to the south. they are going to begin to phase together. but in the meantime we have

clouds around this morning. we do still have some patchy fog in some spots as well. but you can see for yourself what's going on in bel air outside. not a whole lot but the clouds are on the move and i am going to call it a mostly cloudy-type day. and in terms of temperatures we're cold this morning. coming in the 20s basically everywhere. although we should be at 24, 25 now for this time of the year. bundled up out and about. and we're looking at upper 20s in ellicott city and also bowie. union bridge 25 and norrisville at 27. these are the storm systems that i'm talking about and these will do their thing as we head through tonight into tomorrow. just going to be bringing us some rain as we go through the day tomorrow. and then this is what you can expect if you plan on traveling to new england, well you're going to be heading into blizzard conditions. so you're going to want to wait maybe go on sunday. that's when things will definitely toy down and be clear. but again, we're going to be dealing with the rain showers. snow on the interior talking about pennsylvania also new york. the blizzard condition areas up to about 2 feet of snow.

for today, we're dry. increasing clouds and easterly breeze. a high of 40 degrees. tonight is when it starts. 34 degrees late showers, rain with sleet and snow mixing in and then by tomorrow that mix will be early. we're going to have a dicey commute to work. 44 degrees which is all over terrain and the seven day forecast looks like this. improving conditions and also going to be dealing with some very windy conditions blustery by saturday. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynette. well, we have some trouble in baltimore county, a crash right along the eastbound lanes of white marsh boulevard at 95. and traffic on 95 is slowing down as you make the push from 434 down to the beltway. more problems in essex where we have a crash on back river neck road right at middle borrow road. no delays though on 695 traveling across the key bridge. in parkville traffic is slowing down on the outer loop from harford road up to providence road. the average speed of just 33 miles per hour on the outer
