hovering at freezing above or just below that. it's going to get very blustery as we go through the evening and then i will talk about this foe impact. that's coming up. -- snow impact. let's go to the abc2 timesaver traffic. >> reporter: we are dealing with snow freezing rain mix. so interstate 70 will be very slick. slow down and leave plenty of room between you and the car in front of you. if you are traveling in parkville, we have a crash right on taylor avenue west of perring parkway and this is the beltway in the area at harford road. traffic is moving along on the inner loop towards 95 and the outer loop is picking up but you are looking at an 11 minute ride from 95 to 83. here in hunt valley, 83 no delays traveling from shawan road to the beltway. once you get on the jfx, it will take 11 minutes southbound from the beltway down to east fayette street and everything is up to speed through the fort

mchenry tunnel. 8 minutes from the beltway to the toll plaza. that's your abc2 timesaver traffic. now over to you. we know how important it is to have working smoke detectors in our homes. baltimore city fire is getting help when it comes to keeping you and your family safe from fires. linda so is here with details. >> reporter: thanks to a grant from bge, the baltimore city fire department will be able to purchase about 800 new smoke detectors for families in the city. this will allow them to at this . their program that provides free smoke detectors to people living in the city. it's something they have been doing since the 1990s. the grant will be presented later this morning at 10 at the hardy fire station in the citych the mayor and fire chief will be there to accept it. now if you need a smoke alarm in your home and live in the city, call 311-and fire fight will come out within two hours to install it. linda so, abc2 news. chances are you never heard or seen the phenomenon we are about to show you.

brian kuebler tells us one baltimore county family's story and picks apart the science to explain what experts say is a dangerous mix of fire and physics. >> reporter: abc2 news investigators told you about a fire if he nonnol called flame jeting that happens when gas is poured over an open flame. the gas can doesn't simply explode the opening is is a mouth of a fire breathing dragon. you can see it in this video as the flames climb up the fumes and knot gas can only to turn around and spew a jet of flames that can travel up to 13 feet. a baltimore county teen was on the receiving end of something exactly like this last winter when she attended a party with a backyard fire pit. it's well documented a gas can can explode in situations like this, but just recently did the atf study this phenomenon called flame jetting it can be deadly and is incredibly dangerous. we detailed how it can happen

time save savor traffic. >> reporter: you want to be careful on it state -- interstate 70 slippery in the fed ribbing area. 38 is nice and clear. a -- 83 is nice and clear. 12 minutes from the beltway to east -- to east fayette street. everything is up to speed at thefort mchenry tunnel. the outer loop is starting to pick up but we are looking an average speed of 5 miles per hour as you make the push from 95 to 83. and the congestion is going to continue to as we push to the northwest corn corner a4- corner. a 4 minute delay from 795 to 70. the average speed is at 30 miles per hour. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. now over to you. >> team coverage continues ahead of the winter storm

headed our way. sherrie johnson is live at bwi with more on delays and what people are experiencing out there and moreover, what can we expect?>> reporter: right now it's still raining. it's been raining for much of the morning since we have been out here since 4 this morning i am talked with folks with bwi airport and they are selling me there's cancellations and delays and there are flights that are on time. so your best bet is to contact the airline and check with your airline whether that's online and check to see if your flight is still on time. so we are seeing some cancellations and delays especially from the northeastern part of the state, but basically the state highway administration is telling me also that they have trucks down in howard county also in baltimore county and in the owings mills area and hereford zone. they are putting down sand and salt to make sure the roads are

safe for travelers. and they encourage you to watch your following distance and take it easy and give yourself plenty of time. also, on amtrak, amtrak is suspending service starting this afternoon around noon. airports across the country are proem for the problems and nearly 3,000 flights across the country have been canceled. but here at home, road crews are on the streets making sure they are sanding and salting sighing to keep folks safe you can follow us on twitter on abc2 news for the updates. >> a disturbing story on this friday. the search continues for the body of a 2-year-old girl from annapolis. police say the girl's mother admitted to smothering the child and dumping her remains. linda so is here with the latest and linda, it's hard to talk about this, this morning but where do investigators stand? >> they think the body is is in a railcar headed out state.

police say the mother admitted to putting the girl's body in a dumpster and police tracked the contacts of the dumppster at a trash transfer station in jessup. they will resume the search for thing the body and her mother told police she laid on top of the toddler until show was dead. a concerned neighbor called police when she didn't see kassidey for days. booth admitted to killing her later after initially telling people the daughter was with thgrandmother. other news this morning, a judge is expected to decide today if robert gladden junior will be tried in juvenile court. he is accused of shooting a it willo student on the first day of school. gladden faces nearly 30 charges and his attorney says he was

bullied. a teen is stabbed to death after leaving the ravens superbowl and police have released surveillance cameras in hopes of catching the man who killed him. the pictures show a mayor of men on the street and the encounter. deiont' smith was killed. they believe smith and his killer knew one another. they are trying to figure out what let to the stabbing. a second amendment mites rally is happening in annapolis. guns rights groups will meet on the tears beginning at 10. rallies have taken place across the u.s. to current calls for tempered gun control. >> hattie harrison will lay in stays state and died last week at the 84. she will be laid to rest on monday. a hearing is scheduled for today and the man accused of killing another person outside a chinese carry-out.

begins begins to wind down. this will mix towards the west and once the two-phase together that's when it's a powerhouse especially for new england. we are talking about winds gusting up to about 75 miles an hour, so, that's hurricane for the wind here at home, we will be gusting 40 miles an hour. i take you outside at 4 this morning we have wet weather in bel air and patchy fog to talk about this morning. temperature wise, we are up a and down. 37 in baltimore. and we are at 33 in stevensville. take it easy whether you are getting rain or getting icy conditions. it's going to be slick. as we look ahead, yes, yesterday we thought it would be more rain and light snow and a dusting to an inch or two but now things are more powerful so

we will have accumulation of snow going through the evening and into tomorrow. future trend brings that snow in here lingering into tomorrow morning but this is what to expect. 3 to 4 the further north and east you go and the rain-snow line will tell it ought. 40 degrees for today, 20 by tonight with blustery conditions. and for the seven-day forecast, slightly milder going into tuesday. now the abc -- rain across the region it's going lead to ahickic commute. we have a crash in anne arundel county right along eastbound lanes of route 100 at telegraph road. you will want to expect heavy delays on route 295 if you useing that to head down to dc we have a crash southbound at riverdale road. and it's going to take an extra 9 minutes to travel southbound from route 32 to the dc marled line. as we look at the beltway, the
