south baltimore at 2 a.m. the man is recovering at johns hopkins. he is listed in critical but stable condition. we'll stay at the point. an hour later police made a water rescue in phelps point. it happened just before 3 in the morning. the person was taken to mercy. their condition has not been released. now to an update on a developing story we first brought to you last night at 11:00. >> a shooting is underevaluation. a 27-year-old man was shot while walking in the 3300 block of st. lukes lane. he was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition. he is expected to survive. pope benedict xvi shocked everyone with the sudden announcement of his retirement and today is the last ash wednesday mass he will celebrate. it's the last major celebration

seeing that changeover line especially to the west. westminster and carroll county stemming out to frederick but realize that the radar does estimates, facttorring in what it's scanning. that's how we calculate or how the system cal cow lates it. we're seeing wintry showers, somewhat snow coming down and some sleet toward the state capital. you could see wintry type showers mixing in with the rain and basically from baltimore county you'll see more wet snow and some ice as opposed to anything else. all right. temperature wise, we continue to fall. 34 in hagerstown, two degrees above freezing. 40 in baltimore. low 40s along the eastern shore. for most of the state just about everything falling. we'll have zero success.

ground temps are above freezing. the are in the wind wrapping into the storm will continue to help drop temperatures, that, plus the falling precipitation does create a rain snow cooling effect again as that precipitation continues to fall. you'll see the snow rain line dropping more and more to ground level. as that happens we do look for more in the way of light accumulations and especially on grassy areas which tend to fall quicker. here it is wide swath with the cor over west virginia. much of the precipitation shield beginning to come through maryland. this will be out parly quickly by midnight. however one good burst past 6:00, 7:00. then we taper off by midnight. now temperatures near freezing at dawn tomorrow. so some of these slushy spots, slushy coated areas could be
