investigators are working on. changes are coming to the baltimore city training program. >> it comes after a police trainee was shot. >> reporter: major joseph smith will now be the department's director of education and training. he previously served as the internal afairls commander. last week a trainee was shot at the former rosewood center. that trainee is still at shock trauma. limited training is set to resume this week but firearm drills were moved to the end of the curriculum. meanwhile, the listing continue their -- police will continue their investigation. >> you can get all the latest updates by following brian on twimenter. you can find him at bien from abc2 -- brian from abc2.

on valentine's day. pistorius' family and friends insist the shooting was an accident that he mistook his girlfriend as an intruder. but new details cast doubt on that allegation. one respected local newpaper, city press, reports several police sources have said that a bloody cricket bat will be a key piece of evidence, possibly used in a violent argument, that steenkamp was wearing a night gown, that pistorius fired the first shot and that steenkamp fled to the bathroom. it comes after south africa debate the appropriate relationship. >> it's sop important, even made

february is american heart health. abc2 is taking your calls. we're joined by dr. jeffrey rosenthal. today's focus is children's heart. you brought a prop. >> yes. >> let's talk about congenital heart disease. >> reporter: congenital heart disease is a disease with which you're born. if you have a functional problem, then you have congenital heart disease. >> typically where would you see that? >> most happen inside the heart it se. the most common forms happen in the walls in the chamber of the heart, defects in these walls. >> how common is this?

>> around one in every 100 live born babies has congenital heart disease. it's very common. it's the most common form of birth defect and it's the most lethal form of birth defect. >> this is something that typically requires multiple surgeries. >> de ands on what kind. some kids will actually grow out. the heart will continue to develop during the first two years of life. for other children they require heart surgery or other procedures. about 25% of kids with congenital heart disease will require surgery to restore their heart function to as close to normal as it can be. >> this is something that you see when they're babies, correct? >> yes. around three quarters of the congenital heart disease in maryland is identified prenatally. we find this either during the obstetrical phase or immediately

showers toward the middle part of the day, temperatures getting into the upper 40s. again, those showers will be fairly likely out there and a little different as you go further west. in fact, we take you out to carroll county, here we look for the numbers to be cooler. perhaps an icy mix and changing over to rain. so areas from carroll county westward could see slick conditions early in the morning. the i-95 corridor will not see much in the way of a wintry mix. right now we're all clear statewide. as we look at the timing, how about 9:00 tomorrow morning. we'll top it right here. you can see that demarcation line. this is north of virginia. as it comes into hagerstown, frederick, even carroll county, a brief mix toward 9:00 in the morning. then, as we move toward midday, tomorrow, it all changes to rain showers, just wet weather,

briefly milder behind this system. temperatures going into the upper 40s. colder air will funnel in as we move toward winter. winter advisories for allegany and garrett county. here's the deal. mild air will punch in but cold air will continue to flow in as we go beyond tomorrow. again tomorrow initially maybe some cold rain and then a mild surge up into the mid-atlantic. short lived and that cold blast settles in as we go into tomorrow night and into the day on wednesday. getting windy again behind that front as it marches. windy weather will be the story pass we go wednesday into thursday. the whole thing coming our way. mild conditions briefly tomorrow as that rain arrives.

then the cold blast really begins to settle in toward wednesday. so that area of low pressure will keep passing to the north, keep the northwesterly winds flowing in, not too different than the cold windy weather we saw on sunday. tonight 28, cold, breezy. clouds on the increase. your two-degree guarantee 49. then partial clearing by tomorrow night. take a look at the next few days. temperatures will struggle to get even back to the 40s on wednesday and a cold blustery scenario into thursday. this is your abc2 most accurate seven-day forecast forecast. then another round of showers likely friday into saturday. the weather pattern looks active over the weekend. we could see on and off showers. tomorrow it's going to be the high country to the west, will probably seat icy conditions. >> the high condition.

screamed. the other passengers stood up and wanted to intervene. at that point is when he hit my child. >> reporter: the incident last week reportedly left jonah with cuts and bruises to his face and left 60-year-old joe hundley charged with assaulting a mine north. cases of air rage are up 30%. last month a passenger was so unruly fellow passengers bound him with duct tape. who can forget this outburst from a fedup flight attendant last year. but air rage incidents involving children are rare and this still stunned mother whose son is recovering hopes this case will be the last. >> i would like justice to be served. >> reporter: hundley has pleaded not guilty. already, there is backlash. the aerospace parts company in idaho where he served as

tell me about congenital -- is that a birth defect of the heart? >> it is. it's something that happens early during the development of the fetus. usually within the first eight weeks or so the heart is completely formed. so congenital heart disease is a problem that happens early in gestation. >> how would you know your child as it. >> many are diagnosed prenatally, some after bimpleght some kids have a heart murmur. there's a sound we hear. often that's the first clue. other children will, instead of being pink they're very blue. >> dr. rosenthal will be here until 6:30. the number to call is 481-
