shoulder. not causing too much of a backup and northbound lanes will be clear as you make the push into downtown wallet pore -- baltimore. there's a crash on mikesville at shell vow and 795 normal 10 minute ride southbound from westminster pike to the beltway. here's a live look at the northwest corner of 695 at old court road. not too much traffic. it's calm right now on the beltway. just a 7 minute ride on the outer loop from 795 down to 70 and here in hunt valley, the harrisburg expressway is free of delays traveling from shawan down to 695. that's your abc2 time saber traffic. new this morning major developments overnight when it comes to whether maryland should have tougher gun laws. a senate committee voted on the measure very late last night. and abc2 news linda so what is do this mean? >> the senate judicial commito voted 7-# in favor of the bill. they debated it for four hours.

stricter gun control is one of the governor's top priorities. it would began assault weaponssomething that became a hotly debated issues. some of the kiangs that were made will try to prohibit anyone from owning a hand gun if they were involuntarily committed for health reasons and it could cut the fee for a license and renewal and the number required number of training hours from 8 hours to 4. that vote was largely down party lines. all but one democrat voted in favor of the bill. republicans voted against it. >> i think the bill is thoughtful and crow atively and sensitively drafted. i don't believe we are stam peeling on anybody's second amentment rights. regretfully very little change about the bill. the concerns we had about the bill have not been addressed by the committee. there are very close votes.

i think it would have made a bad bill a little better. >> the bill now heads to the full senate for debate next week. linda so, abc2 news. we are 45 minutes away from finding out the fate or the bail situation involving oscar pistorius. the bail hearing has been going on for the past four days but as you've been paying attention, it feels like the trial because of the south african courts areforthcoming as the state makes the case to reject bail and the defense tries to blow hose on what's going on they have found wouldn't lead investigators in the -- one of the lead investigators is facing attempted murder charges. 7 to be exact. we learned yesterday he is facing the charges after a shooting back in 2011. that development rocked the

inches of snow depending on where people lived. that's so cool. thunder snow you can hear it in kansas. they were treated to lightning thunder and snow so at the same time it's called thunder snow. pretty rare occurrence. it is part of the same weather system that is moving over missouri and parts of the midwest. air quaffs kansas could see up -- areas of kansas could see up to 18 inches of snow. >> that's a cool weather phenomenon. >> it is. it's cool. and basically it's like a thunderstorm but what you have going on is like during the summertime colder air aloft and warm air at the ground. and that's what happened 30 at the ground and you are thinking that's cold but we had a colder shot of air that rolled through and that's why we got the thunder snow. let's check out what's going on because we have temperatures in westminster coming in at 24 degrees.

and it's cold and it's going stay that way going through the rest of the day. let's show you what's going on right now. the big picture is showing plenty of snow now around the great lakes. around the upper midwest. then we see the severe component to this storm once again down to the south. and around the panhandle you can see strong thunderstorms. once again they have the potential for severe weather. then in the middle of the storm, we are starting to get, a little bit of dry slotting or dry air moving in. and, of course, this is the part that's moving into us as we go through the rest of today. as we go through the rest of the day it's going get its act together. so keeping in the chance for sleet to move into the picture and mixing with snow and changing over to rain. this is setup. we have high pressure on top of us. and with that, it's pulling in that colder air. but also we have that warmer air that's going to ride above that on top of that and that's going to give us a chance for the sleet and that will switch over to rain as we go through the rest of the evening. overnight into tomorrow, things
