his name, clifton reed. clifton reed's home caught on fire. he was overcome by smoke, became trapped inside. then the neighbor, kevin, kicked down the front door, pulled reid outside. when firefighters got there, they found both men outside burned, both struggling to breathe eye guess it was his natural instinct. he knew someone needed help and he just went and got him. >> while kevin was treated and released from the hospital, reed is in critical but stable condition even tonight. ravens receiver jacoby jones stands twice. >> he's setting his seating on another trophy, the mirrored ball trophy and he breaks down his chances on "dancing with the stars." >> we're working to keep your heart healthy. a doctor is in the house taking

all right. we've been tacking your calls now. we've got about 15 minutes left. abc2 partnered with the university of maryland medical center. we're raising awareness about your heart health. doctor, tell us the difference between heart failure and advanced heart failure. >> advanced heart failure really is when you -- when someone progresses to the point that really their organs, especially their kidney and liver start to see the effects of poor cardiac function, so they may have liver abnormalities. kidney function is ab nor ma. advanced heart failure is when patients are having multiple hospitalizations for heart failure or decompensated heart failure. many patients can get abnormal rhythms called arrhythmias. we call that advanced heart failure. >> how do you know who's a

candidate for a heart transplant. >> the patient goes through a rigorous evaluation process. we look at how sick their heart is. we make sure they don't have a lot of other medical illnesses that would be contributing to their heart disease. we look very carefully at their social capabilities, their emotional capabilities and we have a big theme that does that. once the patient goes through, really, that whole evaluation process, we meet as a multidisciplinary group to make sure this would be the best thing for them. >> how important is it from a patient's standpoint to shop around. >> i think it's very important. most transplants and these left ventricular assist devices occur at the transplant strdzs. most are big cities, but not all. it's important that the cardiologist understands and knows not only when someone is in advanced heart failure but

storm total or slightly higher. there will be flood concerns. by the way, wednesday, we could see partly cloudy. overnight we're okay. 32 when you wake up. clouds, thickening up. showers getting heavier by tomorrow night. cold night around 30. with the arrival of the storm, that's when we'll lose the the weather threat, just the mountains to the west. low 40s tomorrow. as we move into the day on wednesday we get a nice mild surge. could push us into the mid-50s in the wake of the heavy rain late tuesday. all right. here we go. the setup is relatively clear for the moment but all eyes on our double barreled system. it's right on the border and a decent wave south of atlanta. the whole ball of wax beginning to move our way. it's late tomorrow that we have the concern for flooding potential. the whole thing coming our way.

the storm ramps up comes double barrel low pressure area. it will be relatively fast moving but it will put down significant rain. tonight clouds increase but overall quiet. the rain moves. gets heavy around here and the flood concerns as we go into tomorrow evening. temperatures back in the mid-50s behind the storm. i think thursday looks like a decent day with a slight chance of a shower early on. friday, saturday, sunday into monday, all of it looks pretty windy and fairly chilly. anyone who thought 57 wednesday, that starts spring, no even march 1st looks colder than the last two days of february. we'll see what happens. >> thanks a lot. you know firefighters are always saving lives. >> now they can save the lives of man's best friend. there's nothing better than a

cat being brought out and a dog. >> cat and dog. >> got the smoke filling up in their lungs. i think there's a fire house in howard county got a lunch. some elementary school girl did it. she was may warded some big medal last year for buying all these masks. lamont williams shows you the new tools. >> the scene is a quiet one today, a far cry from february 11th when a house fire on that road forced firefighters into an unusual rescue. the only person inside was able to escape but wasn't able to get the family dog, a black dog named champ to leave the home. the fire company responded. >> went in, started searching on the second floor and located in the back bedroom was a dog underneath the bed.

grabbed the dog, took him up front and gave him oxygen. >> reporter: the trucks are equipped with a have the amount of gear but the oxygen masks are only for humans and wouldn't fit champ's nose. a paramedic took a chance and improvise pad pet oxygen mask. >> cecil county has dog respirators. they look like a cup. >> the guys got cups earlier and happened to have a cup. >> reporter: champ survived and the family came to say thanks. a pet oxygen mask was donated. >> hopefully now with the new mask we are giving them they'll be able to use the right kind of thing and don't have to worry
