moves, it has violent storms. maryland has the third highest tornado density in the united states. each your we average 9.9, trailing florida and kansas bay just a few. could a tornado the size of moore or shawnee happen here? in the spring and summer months has thunderstorms move east they hit the mountainous terrains and begin to break up. then they reorganize. they preenergize and they become see -- reenergize and they become severe. the reason maryland will see fewer is real estate. however, in oklahoma, hundreds of miles separate high terrains to the lowlands, allowing more time for storms to develop

bathtubs and closets and a shelter. this shelter was the only one on the entire street. this is the first day people were allowed back into their homes. it took us three hours to get into town. this one shelter was directly behind me. this first row of house. can you imagine if the one shelter wasn't there how they would have made it out. 13 people crammed into a concrete shelter. once the storm started, the latch gave way. the door flew open. three grown men held on. all of a sudden the storm let up. they had kept it closed. just one more story of survival.

let's start off with a look at maryland's most powerful radar. it's impacting parts of our state. let's put maryland's most powerful radar into motion. you can see where the lightning is numerous. closer to home it's the i-81 corridor, winchester through martinsburg and hagerstown. this is where the storms are rumbling. if the travels take you west out this way toward hagerstown, look for storms to be something you're going to have to face. right now the movement is generally north. so that's going to keep most of the activity out to the north and west, but as the evening goes on and especially into the day tomorrow this boundary will sneak further into the state. we have an outflow. we have one here northwest of

hagerstown. you can see why some of the storms are being fueled by very intense areas of heat and humidity out to the west and hiewment is high across the en-- humidity is high across the entire state. primarily the concern tonight will be areas from the mountains of the state, hagerstown to the mountains of west virginia and the whole boundary shifting. as we get the midday sun going, probably some showers but then thunderstorms begin to rumble by midday toward lunchtime. this will be on and off and beyond late per on the eastern shore, probably more showers and thunder showers. then we clear things out for friday. we stay somewhat cloudy with a pop-up shower, especially on delmarva but it looks much less stormy. warm air continuing to flow up
