afternoon, that temperature by lunchtime 76 degrees with some showers. let's get a check of the traffic now with lauren. well, lynette you mentioned it, but fortunately we are looking at high speeds across the region. if you are traveling in howard county, interstate 70 no concerns whatsoever here at columbia pike. you won't have any problems heading westbound to frederick or east over to 695. for those of you using 935 this morning here's a live look just north of 195. there are no problems right now heading down to d.c. and the northbound lanes as we take a look at the drive times you'll notice we are in the green across the board. it will take just seven minutes to get from route 100 up to the beltway. 695 in great shape. you're looking at just a 12 minute ride on the outer loop from 795 down to 95. and the east side also going top up to speed. just 11 minutes on the outer loop from 95 up to 83. that's your abc2 timesaver traffic. news time right now 4:32. more amazing videos from that mass i tornado forming.

take a look at just how much power the twister was packing. this video was taken near new castle, oklahoma and you can see the tornado growing. the national weather service says the tornado started west of there before moving to moore, oklahoma where it did the most damage. at times the tornado had winds of more than 200 miles an hour. it's to blame for the deaths of at least 24 people including children. >> and the first of the young victims will be laid to rest. this as we're now learning more information about the heart- breaking details of how they died. abc2 news linda so is here to tell us ab the final moments -- about the final moments. >> reporter: the medical examiner says six of the kids that died at plaza towers suffocated after being buried on the building that fell on them. the first funeral for those victims will happen this morning. 9-year-old antonio condoleera will be laid to rest today. volunteers are coming together to clean the debris from the

cemetery. among the 24 people who died two of them were infants just 4 and 7 months olds. in all ten children were killed. one father was on his way to pick her up from school and he was caught in traffic and couldn't get to her in time. >> when i got to the school, it was completely gone. it was just -- rubble. >> reporter: president obama is scheduled to visit moore, oklahoma this sunday. the twister caused more than $2 billion in damage. the mayor of the town says he will now push for shelters in all new homes. back to you. well, from maryland to moore, we are seeing an outpouring of support for the tornado victims. so many of you came out to help and we want toothing for that and now cases and cases of water, food, blankets, flashlights and other necessities are on the way to oklahoma. if you couldn't make it out yesterday don't worry there are plenty of ways you can still help. always send a $10 donation to

the american red cross all you have to do is text red cross to 90999. and we have an update to a story that we brought you after the tornado hit. you may remember this picture of a dog that survived the disaster. take a lack at your en-- look at your screen. here's the update. we have learned the dog is named susie and she has been reunited with her owner. according to the oklahoma county sheriff's office, she lives about a half mile from where she was found and was actually standing guard and protecting a body a person who appears to have died from the storm. her reunion was emotional and the sheriff's office says anyone who was touched by the story is urged to make a donation to the area humane society. megan as you just said the video coming out of this storm as it rolled across central oklahoma very amazing to see. and at mashable.com they have now posted a series of these storm videos taken from amateur photographers and you can go check those out once again mashable.com. this is one that's been

receiving a lot of popularity taken from the back of a kfc. you see this -- it almost looks like it is computer generated. doesn't look real at all. you see the storm well formed on the ground and moving to the photographer. outside the kentucky fried chicken in central oklahoma. this one from moore, you see this destruction has it's coming into the town once again. a massive storm. ef5 was the final number on this. you can see it at mashable.com. where they're now housing several of the videos taken from amateur photographers. megan back to you. all right charlie thanks. this morning, new information on the scandal rocking the baltimore city detention center. the agreement between the state prison officials and federal investigators that led to a two year investigation of the jail does not say why the state needed the feds to come in and help. it's called a memorandum of understanding and it was put

into effect in 2011. barely two years ago after another set of gang related arrests in baltimore city involving another detention center. this details how they would work with investigators from the fbi and other agencies. it led to the arrests of 24 people including 13 correctional officers last month. >> how much damage was done during two and a half years of waiting and watching and allowing the family to get stronger? >> governor o'malley expects the arrests last month to be just the beginning, not the end of this investigation. news time 4:37. the switching to sports now, the o's are in north of the border in canada tonight taking on toronto and highly touted pitcher kevin goman will debut for the birds tonight. last night the bats heated up. orioles win over the yankees to take the home series final score 6-3. nick markakis, chris davis and matt wieters each

went deep. davis' bomb was a big shot in the 1st inning. jason hammel pitched six plus string innings and that's great for the rotation. they appear to have rebounded from the six game losing streak. time now for a check of the weather. severe weather today. the big question is what's it going to be and when is it going to hit? >> to answer both the questions for you two rounds megan. as we go through the midday and also as we go later into the evening time frame. the afternoon, your rush hour is not going to be a pretty one. and what we can expect from this is damaging winds, the biggest threat and also large hail. so we look at the big picture here and we have a cold front that's going to begin to move through in the overnight but right now what we're dealing with. we do see showers and thunderstorms across the upper midwest this morning and the northeast. just a few light showers moving in around anne arundel county. all in all though things are going to get worse in the afternoon and we could be seeing heavy downpours. whether we're going to see

in this morning's education report, maryland lawmakers promise to investigate allegations that money allocated to improve your child's education was used to pay for cruises, expensive gifts, and fancy dippers. the u.s. department of education audited the state's education department and it found that $700,000 of federal money was used to buy dinner cruises on the inner harbor and watches and gifts for principals' meeting in pg county. maryland republicans are calling the unapproved spending inexcusable. lavish and frivolous. it's important for all children to get a good education and for high school students in our area, they're getting some of the best in the country. today, a baltimore county official will recognize 13 county schools according to national rankings. more than half of baltimore county high schools are among

the best in the u.s.. the rankings are based on criteria like students' readiness for college, graduation rates and standardized test scores. while some obviously baltimore county schools are topnotch with education, overs don't have the best learning environment. this morning parents' tempers are heating up over the lack of air-conditioning. they're worried about their children spending hours in the hot building. several schools in the county don't have ac and the county superintendent dallas dance says that he is working on the problem but it's going to take time. >> when we address air we're addressing upgrading and reason nation and a complete -- renovation and a complete picture. we need to do it right the first time when we go into the school. >> there's an online push to get the ac on to the elementary school by the fall. there's a link to our website if you're curious. just go to abc2news.com. news time now 4:43. and this is something that may have woken you up late last night. thunderstorms rolling through and some of them were pretty loud. >> all right, so let's see what

we're in store for today. lynette? what do we have on tap? >> all right, so we have several things on tap for today. the temperatures because this morning we are coming in on the mild side. once again temperatures are in the mid 60s to right around 70 degrees. stevensville is at 70 and more of the same in essex this morning. good morning mount airy at 66 degrees and northeast 72 and federalsburg 72 degrees as well. now as we go into the afternoon, there will be some changes coming in here. and temperatures won't be as warm as they have been although it will still be warm i'm going to call it more seasonable because we'll have plenty of cloud cover around this morning. but still working with southerly flow around this high pressure that's going to be bringing in that warm moist humid air. and with that we will have the potential for some severe weather. this storm prediction center does have us in a slight risk for severe weather. the biggest threats will be damaging wind and also large hail. waiting if the cold front to move through and we'll have disturbances riding along this cold front that's going to

force the air up and with that that's where we're going to be seeing the thunderstorms this afternoon. now once again, i said it's going to come in two rounds. abc2's most accurate future trend can show you that. as we go into about 11:00, lunchtime today, we can see our first round of showers coming through. but the bigger thunderstorms are rolling in here as we go into the evening time frame. the afternoon, the commute home is going to be a little bit on the hectic side. be prepared and have the rain gear. for today temperatures coming in around 78 degrees by 3:00. and once again, it is going to be a little bit on the stormy side. i'll talk more about in and show you the seven day forecast in just a minute. let's get a check of the traffic now with lauren. well, lynette you're right. your evening commute could be a little hectic but right now heading downtown the jfx is nice and clear. nothing to get in the beltway from the -- way from the beltway to the east fayette street. despite all the construction on 895 traffic is getting through harbor tunnel just fine as well. looking at 50 miles per hour along the northbound lanes. if you are traveling on 695,

today we could learn more about what caused a deadly fertilizer explosion in west, texas. the department of insurance in texas expected to release results of a joint investigation. they're going to release information regarding the april 17th fire scene on that fertilizer plant. 15 people were killed and hundreds of others were injured during the explosion. a controversial policy could change today. boy scout leaders are expected

to vote on whether to lift the ban on allowing openly gay scouts into troops. the proposal would not allow openly gay adult leaders to participate in scouting. the president of the boy scouts is urging leaders to approve the resolution, some groups oppose the measure. and today president barack obama will talk about national security during the counterterrorism speech. the president will outline the policy and legal framework under which his administration handles terrorist threats. the president is expected to comment on guantanamo bay and drone strikes. yesterday for the first time ever, the obama administration acknowledged that four americans had been killed by drone strikes since 2009. five things open this thursday morning. city school buses and the drivers want to join political and other community leaders to talk about workplace safety and wage concerns. those drivers with durham school services are demanding better and safer working conditions and the drivers plan to speak out at a meeting in rosedale later today. today we are going to know what to expect for the 2013

hurricane season. we're going to get an outlook at a news conference that's happening in college park. fema will be on hand to talk about the importance of being prepared for the storms, hurricane season officially starts on june 1st. if you're feeling stressed this morning there's a reason for it. a new survey baltimore is one of the most stressful cities in the u.s.. and that city came in at number 12 on the top 15 list. it looked at things like unemployment. cost of living and population density and traffic and overall air quality. l. a. took the number one spot. and the entire state of hawaii, well it came in least stressful so -- >> pack your bags. hawaii not stressful. listen maybe all the stress leads you to curse. according to a new study maryland is home to some of the worst potty mouths, people living in the state are most likely to state doing consumer to business transactions than almost any other state in the

country. the top five worst? ohio, maryland, illinois, and new jersey. baltimore no longer one of the fittest cities in america. in fact it's the fifth unhealthiest city according to the new mood blog. a blogger locked into a -- looked into a number of factors including art space and access to healthier foods. according to that report, charm city has one of the highest obesity and diabetes rates and horrible air quality and high smoking population. wow. >> yeah good morning. >> the unhealthiest state is indianapolis. so i guess we got that going for us. >> we're unhealthy and we're cursing a lot and we're stressed out. i don't believe it. do you lynette? >> i don't know. but i'm deprezzed now and -- depressed now and -- i'm going to throw in the fact that wow we're going to have a dreary day on tap and we could get severe weather in here in the afternoon as well. let's start you out with maryland's most powerful radar this morning with a few scattered showers moving in from the south.

if this bar wasn't here, the highway would be. and now you hit a dead end back in the '70s. instead of cars coming in people are. >> there's a lot of o connections definitely a lot of connections. >> reporter: one night many blue moons ago, bob and michelle made a connection at this dinner table. a conversation over mussels would end in marriage. then in december, their youngest of three 7-year-old joey gay was killed. at sandy hook elementary. >> you can't be human and not feel for them what happened to the family. >> reporter: it wasn't just the connection to his restaurant, no it was the connection to his little boy. jesse. >> it's my best friend. >> reporter: his dad's friends. you see jesse and joey are the same age. joey was autistic and couldn't speak. yes, sir see is not but has -- jesse is not but has a rare form of epilepsy and can't speak. >> you know. >> reporter: so jesse climbs on dad's lap and together they sign an invitation for all of us to attend joey's purple
