the latest details. >> reporter: uk police just confirmed the victim killed in the attack was a sevenning soldier. they are not releasing his identity but an autopsy is scheduled for later today. meanwhile u.s. and british officials are now racing to learn more about the attackers and whether they may have ties to organized terrorist groups. here at home, the new york city police department is tightening security at the british consulate. military recruiting stations and other locations in the city. the brazen attack is raising fears of a new kind of terrorism. two men brutally attacked a the victim with a cleaver. it happened yesterday in broad daylight in southeast london. witnesses is a the suspects first hit the man with a car and hacked him to death and then dumped his body in the road. as the victim lay bleeding, one of the attackers went over to a bus and asking people to take photos of him as if he wanted to be on tv. the second suspect with blood still on the hands walked top a man filming the scene and said this -- >> an eye for an eye and a

child. it's a recovery effort now. the investigation continues this morning into the shooting death of a chechen immigrant in central florida. he turned violent when being questioned by an fbi agent and two massachusetts state troopers about has ties to deceased -- his ties to tamerlan tsarnaev. police say the man implicated himself in the 2011 triple slaying in a boston suburb that may have been connected to tsarnaev. law enforcement sources say that there's no evidence so far tying this man to the bombings. the three women who were rescued this month after being held captive in a cleveland house for close to a decade are quote safe and happy. attorneys for amanda berry, michelle knight and gina dejesus relayed a statement saying that they are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. the women want everyone to know quote they're doing well. the cleveland courage fund is now helping the women. they have collected $650,000. ariel castro was achested and charge -- arrested and charged after berry escaped from the

joining us, we're working for you, i'm megan pringle. >> and i'm charlie crowson. right over to meteorologist lynette charles now because weather could be a big factor today. >> you're right guys. so right now we look at maryland's most powerful radar. and we're seeing what's going on. and we do have the showers and the storms getting a little bit closer to us this morning. so we do have two rounds that will affect us. we can see some showers back just off towards the east of d.c.. this will trek into our area as we go through the rest of the morning hours and also starting to see a few showers across the eastern shore this morning. definitely have the rain gear because we have the possibility for some severe weather as we go through the rest of today. now this is what's going on in parkton right now. again, want to show you the clouds out there this morning. and from the clouds later on we will start the see those showers coming down and also thunderstorms. the biggest threat will be large hail and also damaging winds. so the temperature in parkton right now coming in at 65 degrees. frederick at 64 and also a little bit of patchy fog out there this morning as you head out and about make sure you do

take it easy. but also we head throughout the day if you do the kids -- have outdoor activities afterschool activities, those might get canceled just keep your eye to the sky and keep it tuned. let's get a check of the traffic now with lauren. lynette we have a hectic commute if you are heading to the harrisburg expressway, leave yourself plenty of time an ealeft behind heavy heavy delays. it was right along the southbound lanes at timonium road. speeds at just 14 miles per hour and it will be slow making the push down to the beltway. on the jfx some relief heading into the city. if you are traveling in howard county we have a crash a new one reported right along the southbound lanes of columbia pike near the south entrance road right near the post pavilion. if you are going to the beltway looking at just 33 miles per hour on the west side that's going to be on the outer loop at liberty road. congestion really startings pick up in the area and 95 though nice can clear heading into the city. you're taking a live look here at 395. you're looking at a normal drive time of just nine minutes

and the examiner says six of the kids who died at plaza towers elementary suffocated after being buried under the building that collapsed on them. a seventh child was killed ensubstantiately by an object that fell on his neck. amy rainy is a counselor who rode out the storm with students at briarwood elementary where all the kids made it out safely. >> i had my 10-year-old with me in the storage closet where we were. and my 7-year-old was with another teacher's son in the boys' bathroom. and there was a father in there. and he had clung to the toilet and told the boys to cling on to him and he -- he is the one that -- that kept our children alive. >> reporter: president obama is scheduled to visit oklahoma this sunday. the twister caused more than $2 billion in damage. the mayor of that town says he will now push for shelters in all new homes. back to you.

so we showed you this picture of thing the that survived the tornado in -- dog that survived the tornado in oklahoma but this morning she has been reunited with her own. the dog is named susie. she was actually standing guard over a deceased man inside the house. the sheriff's department posted the picture and says that the dog was likely standing guard over her dead owner. turns out though the owner did survive the tornado and lived about a half mile from where susie was found. they are back together this morning. other news this morning a soldier at west point is in trouble acruised of secretly videotaping women in a restroom. the army is now said sergeant first class michael mcclinton is facing multiple charges for having and taking photographs of women in the west point academy west rooms. so -- reassume. some of thal -- restrooms. some of the allegations date back to 2009. it's the latest in a series of sexual misconduct allegations in the military. estimating as many as 26,000 service members may have been sexually assaulted last year. president barack obama's planning a major speech today

on the administration's controversial drone strike policy. the president will explain the legal justification behind the decisions to unleash the drones against suspected terrorists. the speech at the national events university will come a day after the government has admitted to killing four american citizens overseas as a result of drone strikes. the justice department says only one of the u.s. citizens was specifically targeted that being an al-qaeda cleric. five things to know on this thursday morning. poor quality construction materials and building code violations contributed to the collapse of the building housing garment factory last month in bangladesh. the series of irregularities occurred in the construction. it killed more than 1100 people. we could learn more today about what caused an explosion that killed 15 in west, texas. the results of the joint investigation will be announced at a news conference later today. the teen birthrate in 2011 set another record. a record low. this is according to the latest federal data. all states but west virginia

everyone is on board. you know those who want to hold on to their homes surrounded by vacant buildings, they say they just want a fair price for their homes if they are forced to sell. now many neighbors disappeared over the last 50 years leaving vacant boarded up homes and the blight that comes with them. the city plans to knock down 1500 more vacants over the next three years and many of those blocks will become urban groan space. the city says that the taxpayers will ultimately get the biggest rewards from the program eliminating crime and fire traps and eyesores in the process. while some holdouts may be forced to move out of their homes others view it as a welcome escape. ironically the same program will try to save some. this city offered one up for sale for $5,000 plus inventives in hopes of renovating vacants to make them stronger neighborhoods. >> a lot of us in this block are homeowners and we've been around here for a long time and

we would like to keep our block up. >> i hate to see the neighborhood go but it's gone already. >> reporter: now the city has about 16,000 vacant buildings and about 10,000 of them need to be demolished. at one point there were one million people in the city and right now there are about 630,000 people. basically they want to right size the housing stock. federal hill, sherrie johnson. abc2 news. when it comes to customer satisfaction, in the skies virgin america tops the list. also seeing severe weather there. this morning, lynette we've got our checklist right there. we've got the raincoat and the hat and we've got the umbrella. got the galoshes. >> that is what we need. >> that's about it. you got everything. you don't need the coat this morning but you do need everything that charlie said because we have the wet weather already moving in across the area. so maryland's most powerful radar pickingup on some scattered showers now. it's going to become more widespread as we go more into the afternoon. but look at some spots now that are dealing with some light showers to moderate showers around corsica landing and conquest beachment along the eastern shore this morning definitely getting in on some moderate action. as we go through the day this will pick up. havre de grace right now just dealing with some clouds out there this morning. but things will change in the forecast for you. the temperatures this morning quite warm once again. the 70s in essex and also annapolis and camp spring is coming in at 70. upper 60s in clarksville this morning and also in federalsburg. so as you head out the door

this morning, be prepared for the potential for some severe weather. or at least some strong storms will rom in here. -- roll in here. because at the surface we still have the warm moist air and we will have that cold front that moves through as we go into the afternoon. so we will see two rounds of this. abc2's most accurate future trend goes into motion showing the first round coming in this morning. around 10:00, 11:00. our next round accompanied by that cold front will come in this evening. and that's the one that's going to be more -- potent i should say. ten more changes towards the weekend. but for today in terms of temperature, the high coming in right around 78 degrees and the seven day forecast brings the cooler weather in here just in time for the weekend memorial day weekend. looks pretty good. let's get a check of the traffic now with lauren. well lynette your commute is not looking good. there are heavier delays right now on 83. all due to the earlier crash along the southbound lanes at timonium road. a live look at the congestion and this will remain making the drive down to 695.
