evidence of their horror. this is the town of terror. >> it's almost over. >> reporter: and of a teacher trying to calm their students as they huddled in a pitch black bathroom. >> keep your head down. >> reporter: when this was over, they sought violence. they found the bathroom wall still standing. >> and i was right here. >> reporter: a shelter that kept her and her students alive. another story of survival comes from the osborne family who rushed to this shelter just before the deadly tornado struck. >> i had 13 people. >> reporter: deb birks her husband -- debbie, her husband and neighbor, all survived. the spirit of optimism is evident everywhere. >> the town will come back bigger and better.

it happened on democracy boulevard near interstate 20 -- 270. a 50,000 pound beam fell from the third floor to the second floor where the workers were. authorities said about 20 workers were in the hear when the garage collapse -- area when the garage collapsed. they were working on a movie theater, so the structure was closed off to the public. the victim was pinned, but talking to firefighters. a medical team has been dispatched to that scene. at this point the scene is very active. we'll have an update as soon as it becomes available. roosevelt leftwich, abc2 news. updating you on another breaking news story. police identified the man found in the water last night at holiday hill marina as 70-year-old william eckert. his body was found by his boat by a family member.

in tonight's health alert, you eat a big rich meal, right and then pop an antacid, but you could be lowering your risk of cancer. a study of more than 600 cancer patients found that people with acid reflux had a 78% higher risk of developing throat or voice box cancer but taking those nonprescription antacids

lowers that risk by 417%. steams like more and more -- seems like more and more kids are being diagnosed with adhd. linda so tells us how sunlight, sleep and screen time may play a factor. >> reporter: he's an honor student, but his mom struggles to understands the symptoms of adhd that can sometimes torment him. >> he gets agitated, quick tell perks angry with himself. it's more internal than external. >> reporter: but it's the internal influences that have doctors intrigued. doctors want to know about the three s's. the first s being sunlight. a recent study shows states with less sunlight had higher rates of adhd, as much as 10% to 12%.

>> those states have 5% to 6%. >> reporter: but sunlight play not be the only issue. the doctor said there could be a link to sleep. the symptoms of adhd are linked to sleep deprived and what's robbing them of sleep may be the third s -- screens. the blue light could disresults melatonin. >> by preventing the onset of melatonin, it delays the onset of sleep. >> reporter: doctors say external factors are worth exploring to better understand the problem. >> experts say the rates of adhd may be lower in sunny states because sunlight overrides the blue light effect of computer and tv screens. a lot of pools open up but

with an active tornado warning. we can put a storm track on this particular cell. you can see the movement is to the north and the east. that cell impacting into front royal. this is i-66 coming out of the d.c. area. you see right now we've got hail potentially up to an inch coming out of the storm. at this point in time the rotation looks to be settling down a little bit. these can flair up, so keeping a sharp eye on the radar. the main system is coming through. once upon a time this is the same boundary providing huge storms places like, of course, oklahoma city, little rock, arkansas. now the line steadily pushing offshore. behind this much cooler drier air is on tap. in the meantime we're ahead of the boundary. 80 degrees. dew points have been falling but it's very humid and a little bit of weather in motion, things
