all the way up to 83. a developing story, possibly involving your car. the federal government is calling on chrysler to recall nearly 3 million vehicles. >> and this is a pretty common car out there on the roads but the automakers is taking a bold stance and saying no way. and abc 2 news shari johnson is here with the details and this is pretty bold move by chrysler. >> the government says older models of jeep have a safety defect with fuel tanks vulnerable to rupturing in the rear end collision. and crash tests show simulated fuel spilling from a grand cherokee. these are tests that chrysler says were too severe. on tuesday, the national highway traffic safety administration called on chrysler to recall 2.7 million older model jeep grand cherokees and jeep liberties and say the defects present an unreasonable risk because people have burned to death in rear impact crashes. the government says the problem is that the fuel tank is right behind the rear axle.

and slightly below the bumper. but chrysler is refusing the recall saying the government's three-year-long investigation is based on an incomplete analysis and the automaker says the vehicles are safe and not defective. >> and we think that chrysler has more time to think about this and see the public reaction and do the right thing and recall the jeeps. >> chrysler says it does not intend to recall the cars. the government can enforce a recall but needs a court order first. we will hear from a crash victim coming up in the 6:00 hour. back to you. sofnlg the highest ranking members of the u.s. milds military got grilled by law enforcements and there were as many as 26,000 sexual assaults within the military, last year. and that's up from 19,000 the year before. now leaders acknowledge victims are often hesitant to report sex crimes because often they don't trust their commanding officers to apply the

cockroaches. this one is charley. and that's megan. jasmine, tell us a little bit about them. >> so these madagascar hissing cockroaches, they are actually very unique. megan here, she really likes to have babies. she has a lot of them. and then charlie, as you might be able to tell right now, he gets a little grumpy until he has his morning coffee. >> love it, love it. so when we hear the word cockroach, you instincttively think, eww, i don't like cockroaches and how do we kill them but they're great for the environment. what is their role? >> yes, very good. so they are extremely important to the environment. they're actually decomposers so all of that rotting stuff from the forest floor or area areas throughout the world, they actually eat that rotting thing. the rotting things. rotting leaves and fruit and things like that. and they eat those and turn them into nutrients which get absorbed into the soil and help the entire ecosystem, help all of the plants grow and help the diverse animals. >> that is really cool.
