it has been burning for a week and the danger isn't over. >> reporter: nearly a week after this massive black for rest fire started in colorado, authorities think they finally have the upper hand . >> the good news is new lost structures. >> reporter: investigators trying to figure out what started the most destructive wildfire in the state's history. it has already claimed two lives and wiped out nearly 500 homes near colorado springs. mother nature somewhat cooperating. sunday's raiferl helped to contain the flames. yet, the dispaz zone is still too smoldering to allow some evacuees to return to what's left. >> the people who lost their homes, they're going to hit

bottom again when they see theirs for the first time, which probably will be this week. >> reporter: a few found a my ne for three days. >> reporter: it's a nervousness now shared by some california residents where new wildfires sparked overnight. this one near modesto burning out of control forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents forced to go back home. in colorado some have been allowed to return. the houses standing left them nearly speechless. >> we are so lucky. we know we are. >> reporter: with some in colorado still out of their homes, looting has become an issue. the local sheriff had this message for the looters saying we will show the same compassion to you as you are showing our

so steadily land slowly tracking off -- and slowly tracking off to the east. you see the additional unsettled weather will continue to flare up. it will impact us for the next two days or so. we'll continue to look for active weather. right now 0 degrees at -- 80 degrees. a day in the 80s and in the low 80s now in bel air and centerville, but we do have some breeze out there. live look at conditions in baltimore, partly cloudy skies, 84. humid, yes, high temperatures in the upper 80s. that's on the warm side for this part of mid-june. the humidity is not giving us any kind of break. the heat index 94 at the inner harbor. take a look across the area. just a couple of showers to the south and east for the rest of the evening. there's that one storm in cecil

county. otherwise, we think there could be area, offshore that could impact the lower shore even into annapolis some morning rain. the better chance for storms and some brief downpours mr. come in the afternoon -- will come in the afternoon. this could end up spring up right over the central part of the state. it looks like the weather will stay fairly clear as we go into the delay on thursday. dry layer will funnel in. look at the temperature trend here. not much change. mid-80s tomorrow. mid-80s into the day on wednesday. i want to show you this across the mid-atlantic state. this front will be a slow mover. it will take awhile to get. the humid air dominates and probably most of the day on wednesday. by wednesday you'll see the dry air funneling in. that will be what flairs -- flares the storms up.

electric personality, his family says, a caring and respectful young man as he begins his rehab from a critical head injury. >> it's coming back. he's starting to understand a little more, starting to ask some more questions, starting to recognize some people more but then in the next breath he could say something totally off the wall. >> reporter: painful for his older brother to see, but understandable, matthew suffered a serious head injury that required emergency surgery. today is day two of his rehabilitation, finally out of shock trauma but headed down the long road of learning how to walk and talk all over again. >> a lot of people have said it's a marathon. it's not a sprint. every day we have to take it one day at a time and see what
