shark. the discovery network denies any involvement. they say this was not a p.r. stunt. >> i can't imagine it would be that, it's all about conservation. i can't imagine that. >> someone is going to find out how the shark ended up there, you can rest assured with that. news time now 5:38. more weather? >> let's send it over to lynette. lynette, some storms last night. i think a lot of people are waking up this morning saying is it over? >> it's over for this morning, but as we 2 into the afternoon, we do have the chance for more showers and thunderstorms. want to get you out the door this morning, want to show you what's going on in bel aire because, yes, we do have some clouds out there, and this is going to continue through the morning. but also we'll get a few peeks of some sunshine in here as we go throughout the day as well. we've been talking about the patchy fog and not a whole lot in bel aire this morning, but there are some spots. i'll show you that in just a second. the temperature in bel aire coming in at 68 degrees, that dewpoint at 67. so we are more humid than we have been. we do have some dewpoints in the 70s for today. lots of moisture is what we're working with. and with that we can see that we do have reduced visibilities, especially the

further off to the north and west you go. so if your travels take you along i-83 in new york, pennsylvania this morning, be prepared for reduced visibility. the last time i showed you this map, fredrick was at seven miles. now we are less than a half mile, a mile and a half it. and this is going to continue to go downhill as we go through the morning hours. now today's temperature coming in right around 85 degrees. we do have the showers, the storms once again possible, especially as we go into the afternoon. those will linger right through tonight. temperature coming in at 72. this is what it looks like for tomorrow. that temperature will being warmer coming in at 88 degrees, but still in that unsettled weather pattern. so make sure you do have the rain gear for today and tomorrow. let's get a check of the traffic now with lauren. >>reporter: well, lynette, you mentioned that fog out on 83, and this is is exactly what it looks like here at york road. conditions will worsen as you do make the push up to the maryland/pennsylvania line. but no delays in the area. 95 here in baltimore right at eastern avenue, that's also going to be in great shape if you are heading into the city, nothing to get in your way from the thruway all the way down to

a company based in saburna park is cutting its work force. 500 employees locally and around the country are being let go, including the president's daughter. george hepburn started dyna splint 30 years ago. they use devices used for physical therapy. hepburn says an ongoing federal lawsuit against his company on medicare billing made it tough to get another lender, causing him to rack up millions in debt. he is is confident he can turn things around by the end of the year. >> we have to -- we hope this is short-lived, that in three

months we'll have the bank paid off and then we'll start to call you back. >> a cut in staff means a cut in patient care. before the layoffs dynasplint was fitting 6,000 new patients a month and now hepburn says he can only treat half of those patients. let's take a live look at washington d.c. this morning. we learned this morning that president obama will speak later this month at a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the march on washington. the white house says that the president will participate in the let freedom ring ceremony at the lincoln memorial on august 28th. the event is being organized by the king center in atlanta. out at the live desk this morning, two big trials happening today capturing national headlines. one an army major accused of gunning down soldiers in fort hood, texas. nidal hasan is facing a number of charges for the shooting that killed 13 and injured 32. his backup lawyers have now been asked to withdraw from the case. they say his son is working with the prosecution to achieve the death penalty. hasan is representing himself.

he's asked few questions of the witnesses who saw the 2009 attacks. some of them who were shot by hasan. in the meantime up to boston we go where the jury is still deliberating in the racketeering trial of james "whitey" bulger. the jury must sort through stacks of evidence, including crime scene photos, forensic images, guns, even bulger's informant file. the alleged mob boss is accused of 19 murders along with a number of counts of extors torgs and money laundering. the maryland general assembly created a task force on juvenile court jurisdiction. they're meeting today and the whole reason is is to begin looking at the laws on dealing with young criminals, including how to reduce the number of kids in adult detention centers and prisons. a final report is is due in december. listen to that, fast- moving storms swept through parts of central and eastern

minnesota. the storm was so severe that it dropped golf ball-sized hail. the national weather service received reports of three-inch hail in some areas. it left some cars with dents, as you can imagine, even broken windows. now, a lot of funnel clouds that were spotted, they also say that winds brought down trees and knocked out power to almost 50,000 customers. luckily, though, no injuries. >> this is, of course, minnesota where they'll call the body works guys to get the dents out of cars. we had some storms move through, but no hail. >> actually, we did have hail, wind damage d cloud-to-ground lightning. the severe thunderstorms happened in baltimore county and carroll county. so downed trees in chairl county as well. -- in cheryl county as well. today still unsettled, we have the possibility to do it all over again. let me show you what's going on outside. yes, we do have a little bit of patchy fog across the area. we are waiting for that sun to rise and we will begin to get some sunshine in here as we go toward the 6:14 time frame this morning. that's when the sun comes up.

we'll get a few peeks as we go throughout the day. unfortunately this is the type of sun you don't want to see because that's going to aid in some of those thunderstorms popping up as we go through the afternoon. thunderstorms, yes, rumbling behind me. but that's are a thing of the past. these are the ones we were just talking about at the desk that came through overnight. what we're left with this morning patchy fog across the area. as we go throughout the day, we will have to contend with what's going on at the suace and that humidity is is still going to be on the war path. we do still have that area of high pressure that's anchored off into the atlantic as of now, still getting that return flow, and we're still waiting for this slow moving cold front to work its way in here. and it won't get in here until probably on saturday. behind that we start to see some dryer air and feel the dryer air. but in terms of temperatures this morning, we are above average coming in at 74 degrees right now in pasadena. glenwood is at 69, 71 in baltimore right now and chesapeake beach coming in at 74 as well as denton and northeast, good morning to you, you're at 69 degrees. we look at abc 2's most

accurate futuretrend, yes, this does pick up on some scattered showers and possibility some storms as we go more into the afternoon. but then we'll do it all over again as we head towards tomorrow afternoon. so, again, another wet day on tap for us. take the rain gear tomorrow, keep it around for tomorrow and make sure you do download our storm shield weather app. this is going to keep you abreast of any type of warnings in your neighborhood. 83 degrees will be that temperature by lunchtime today and only warming up to about 85 degrees and dryer by next monday. let's get a check of the traffic now with lauren. >>reporter: well, if you are traveling in baltimore county, we do have an alert to tell you about, a disabled car at perking parkway. as lynette mentioned, we are dealing with quite a bit of fog. the worst spot is 83 as you make the push from hunt valley and worse as you make the drive up to the maryland/pennsylvania state line. no delays to get in your way. the jfx in great shape. 55 miles per hour along the southbound lanes of the beltway. it's going to take you the typical 11 minutes to get from here downtown to east fayette

street. the tunnels are both in great shape. here's what 795 looks like at owens mills boulevard. 695 also going to be nice and clear. if you are traveling in carroll county, lynette did mention the strong storms that came through late last night. you will want to watch out for a downed tree in sikesville on route 97 at hood mill road. if you do see storm damage, e- mail it into us, pix@wmar.com. that is your time saver traffic. tomorrow baltimore will have a chance to say good-bye to colts legend art donovan. his feun funeral will be held at 11 o'clock at the cathedral of mary -- matriarch queens. his family is asking that in lieu of flowers donations instead go to believe in tomorrow and doctors without borders. tomorrow r and b star usher will be in an atlanta courtroom. his ex-wife is now seeking emergency custody of their son. this all comes after the 5-year- old nearly drown monday. he got stuck in a pool drain trying to get a toy.

meetings, protests and public outcry, all objecting to a tax break for a billion dollar project. none of it helps. this morning we have reaction to the city council's approval of a controversial plan. all those stories straight ahead on this thursday morning. thanks for being with us, and good morning, maryland, i'm charley crowson. >> i'm megan pringle. a lot of news to tell you about, plus cal ripken, jr. is here. let's get right to the weather. as you wake up this morning, you might look out and see wet streets. >> that's right, megan. you will see wet roadways this morning, but what you'll also see, you'll see some patchy fog as well. we'll show you that in a second. as we look at maryland's most powerful radar, we are nice and dry. we did have the rain and thunderstorms roll through overnight and that's the wet roadways as of now. but dry weather. it's not going to last as we go throughout the day, so make sure you do grab the rain gear as you step out and about. now we look at manchester where we are dealing with patchy fog across the area. this is will slowly but surely

begin to burn off as we go through the morning hours. also as we go into the afternoon, a few peeks of sunshine a possibility, but that's going to aid and abet in terms of what we'll be seeing as far as thunderstorms. manchester's temperature 69 degrees, winds out of the southwest about five miles per hour. we do have patchy fog in hanover this morning with a temperature and dewpoint coming in right around 72 degrees. as we work through the day, high temperature at 85. let's get a check of that traffic now with lauren. >>reporter: well, lynette, your commute could be a little hectic. a crash is shutting down a portion of the jfx, northbound lanes now closed right after falls road. you will want to use falls road or charles street as your alternate routes. if you are traveling on the west side of the beltway, nothing to get in your way on the outer loop from 795 down to 95. it'll take you just 11 minutes. and the east side of the beltway will also be clear, many cameras available for us and no delays right at hartford road. 11 minutes to get from 95 up to 83. 95 is clear in white marsh, 56 miles per hour southbound, but we do have trouble on 95 in howard county.
