the mail from your box. don harrison talked to some people about what they're doing. >> reporter: you drop your check in the mail in the morning and sphoor get about it and expect to get it but thieves are grabbing it before it leaves your mailbox. >> they know who they're targeting and the times. >> reporter: police say that target is your money. >> they're trying to get checks that could be intended for a bill collector or checks intended for you. they're taking them and fraud lntly transcribing it to make this look like their name or some other recipient. >> reporter: county police say it's in the one specific area where the thefts are occurring. it's happening all over the county. >> we've gotten reports, north, south, east and west, of people's mails and checks being stolen out of their mailbox.

her. hey grabbed her breast. she yelled and he ran off. well, a man is recovering at shock trauma after being rundown in a parking lot. he was load nod a helicopter. it started with an argument. police said two men were fighting when the suspect pushed the 64-year-old victim to the grandand drove over him with a car. the suspect is in police custody tonight. >> an alert for people living in edgewood. the sheriff's department is looking for those responsible for setting bags on fire. he found a peel of trash on his front porch. it happened again yesterday, about a quarter of a mile away. a disturbing story out of florida tonight. a man posted a picture of his dead wife on facebook with a

murder confession. he posted the picture thursday morning along with the photo of his wife jennifer alphonso. he confessed and said i'm going to prison. take care facebook people, you'll see me in the news. friends said the two had a troubled married. the victim's 10-year-old daughter from a previous marriage was in the home at the time of the shooting. the disappearance of a 16-year-old california girl and the suspected kidnapper. a car belonging to james dimaggio was found. the missing girl, 16-year-old hannah anderson didn't appear as though she was being held against her will. police have been looking for dimaggio after the girl's mother and home was found burned.

a massive wildfire in california. the fast moving wildfire continues to move through the mountains. more than 500 homes remain in the fire's path. the winds are pushing it both east and west. >> we've been talking about the fire season this year being a little bit more dry than usual and that's played true with the fires we've seen. >> six people have been hurt, including five firefighters right now. that silver fire is said to be 25% contained. two people are dead after a small plane crashed into a home in east haven, connecticut. the children, ages one and 13 were inside. the mother got out safely. the plane sparked a fire and a partial collapse of two homes. the pilot is still missing. we've been dealing with

you see what's going on. he apparently decided it was time to break it down. >> i'm not driving anyway. >> we know when people are intoxicated they're unpredictable. >> unbelievable. bentley face last host of charges. police said his blood alcohol level three times the legal limit. a carjacking suspect leads less on a chase. officers arrested the man after he ran a kia van off the road flipping it. at first he refused to get out of the van but surrendered 20 minutes later. no carjacking here. the driver of the truck hit a curb and flipped that vehicle. police needed to call in the pros to set up a corral.

storms turned deadly in parts of the midwest. strong sudden rain catching a number of people off guard and prompting dangerous rescues. there's more rain reportedly on the way. >> soaking storms are a staple of summer, but in the southern plains it got an extreme. >> because the jet stream is much farther south for this time of the year we're seeing this pattern society up across oklahoma, kansas and southern missouri. >> reporter: from oklahoma to maine, a soggy path of destruction. roads turned to lakes. fields of crops submerged, entire neighborhoods destroyed. >> a lot of people lost everything. >> reporter: the floodwaters made their mark, on the inside a scramble to clean up. >> we opened the door to let this run out. >> reporter: it hit this home so

strong this overturned a refrigerator. >> if we don't find a place to live, we could lose our foster child. >> reporter: the floods left three people dead. some aren't heeding the warning. this man telling those would-be rescuers to go away. he was fished out and put under arrest. the forecasters said the flood threat remains real. much of the southern plains has been under extreme drought. there's one way to get rid of extreme drought and that's heavy rain. they have watches and advisories headed into the weekend. if you live in a low lying area, you need to stay on alert. look at this storm. 40-mile-an-hour winds. it's right over the bay bridge,

so we may see the bay bridge subjected to closures as the storm is moving through, producing gusty winds. chester town getting smacked around. this will continue to move toward the east. it's moving at 30 miles an hour. the storms could drop a copious amount of rains. the storms moving through towson, those have shifted to the east. clear skies out to the west. it's a line of showers developing over deep creek. this has to push across the state through the course of the heaving in. future radar showing that line through 6:00, 7:00, moving into washington county. it will be pretty interesting. look at the shot downtown where we had a tremendous amount of rain move through. now the sunshine is coming out. it's 80 degrees with the bay

water at 81. your planner, scat expat and thunderstorms. it will take a break around 8:00 but come back into play at 11:00, temperatures falling back into the temperatures -- temperatures will be into the 70s later tonight. it's 89. nompleally this should be around-- normally, it should be around 86. 81 downtown right now. the dew points are still way up there, tremendous amount of moisture on top of us. that will aid more showers and storms during the course of tonight. there's the satellite picture, lots of clouds on top. there's the cold front. it's ent acting with all the humidity. that's why we're seeing the gusty showers and thunderstorms. back out to the west, before some nicer weather will push in on saturday. so temperatures into the 70s up and down the east coast. these are dew point numbers by
