just kidding. meteorologist mike masco explains. >> this morning across the world -- they say the sun is about to, well, flex its muscles. a solar flare erupted on the surface of the sun that will send energy across the solar system. it's traveling around 2 million miles an hour. it will call a geomagnetic storm over the next couple of days that will impact earth by disrupting some communication devices. in 2012 we had a geomagnetic storm, even some airline communication around the north pole for several days. nasa is expecting a minor disruption and they're more concerned with the satellite well above it. the coronal mass eject, depending on the strength of it,

as abc2 news at 6:00 starts right now. we begin with the latest on a dramatic rescue as a van crashes into a ravine and catches fire and there were three kids inside. >> if not for the help of a liberty high school teenager, this story may not have a happy ending, but that's what jeff hager has more. >> reporter: an unaassuming 15-year-old michael shearer was bogged down in work, building a flower garden in marriotsville when he was distracted by the sound of crunching metal. >> a loud sound and soon after that you heard a crash. i knew instantly someone hit something. i ran 75 yards down the road. when i got there, i realized how bad it was. i'll be honest, i didn't think anyone survived. >> reporter: michael spotted a
