was relaying hill's demands. listen. >> you don't have nothing to live for. >> tell me why he wanted a tv camera to come out there to the school. >> because he was going to end his life and take all the cops and everybody with him. >>reporter: that's what he said? >> yeah. >> tuff stayed in the room with michael hill, listening not only about his struggles in life, but sharing a few of her own. as time passed then tuff convinced hill to surrender. she stayed with him and talked to him as he was on the floor waiting for police to come in. she kept him there and talked him through the entire process. in all more than 800 students and teachers were able to flee the school to safe zones where they were then taken by bus and eventually reunited with their parents. now police are trying to piece together what led to the attack and how hill got into that school. 5:34 right now. this just in, san diego mayor bob philner has reached a tentative deal in a sexual harassment lawsuit. reports claim it is going to be presented to city council in a closed session tomorrow. no details have been released. again, this is breaking news

right now. at least 17 women -- if you're not family with the story -- have accused of 70-year-old mayor of making unwanted sexual advances. friends and family of a young couple that was gunned down in front of their 17-month- old daughter remembered them as a wonderful couple and great people. there was a vigil held in painttown and we are learning more details this morning about the suspect in this case. abc 2 news' roosevelt leftwich is live this morning at city police headquarters with details. rosie, what can you tell us? >>reporter: well, megan, city police have filed charges against 35-year-old melville mason. he's the man accused of killing a young couple in their home in front of their own daughter and reportedly over a dispute over $10. now, for the friends and family of 21-year-old william monroe and 22-year-old megan kerrigan, this makes their loss even worse. more than 150 people dwaried outside of victim's home -- gathered outside of the victim's home on south cary street last night.

office officials say mason threatened them as early as friday. he broke into the home on tuesday shooting monroe and a family friend before killing monroe and kerrigan who were in a back bedroom with their 17- month-old child. the family says mason would have shot the baby but the gun wouldn't fire. they say that kerrigan and monroe were good people and their deaths are well beyond tragic. >> it felt like a nightmare. i can't say nothing but nice things about them. they were always friendly, they always took care of everybody. will always gave a helping hand for somebody that needed it. megan was very, very kind to everybody. again, she was ready to help somebody out with anything they needed. and i'm going to miss them very much. >>reporter: now, city police say they are looking at the family's claim they did file a report against mason. in the meantime folks at the vigil say they are all going to pitch in to try to help raise the 17-month-old because now she's going to have to grow up without her parents. reporting live downtown,

roosevelt leftwich, abc 2 news. he's a hero at just 15- year-old, michael sheriff made an amazing rescue. listen to this, he was outside working in his mother's garden in her marriottsville home when he heard a crash. now listen. >> i ran about 75 yards down the road. when i finally got there i realized how bad it was. and i'll be pretty honest, i didn't think anyone survived, it was that bad. she's screaming at the top of her lungs, i need your help, my kids are in the car. i have three -- i think they were 5, 4 years old in little car seats in the back. >> unreal. a liberty high school student helped rescue the family before the fire took over the car. everyone is said to be doing okay right now. they may look like some pretty cool sunglasses, but beware, the eyewear police officers in maryland are now using is doing a lot more than just to protect their eyes. we'll explain what's going on there. also, they almost lost their lives in a car accident and today they're doing what

the city school district is saying good-bye to another key figure. the chief academic officer reports she's leaving to head up the policy group education trust in d.c. she came to baltimore back in 2010 from boston and she's being replaced by her deputy marina varo. her resignation comes just months after former school ceo dr. andre solando announced his departure to teach at harvard. five schools in baltimore county are soon going to get air conditioning. the maryland board of public works approved almost $12 million for this project. the county executive has submitted the remaining amount to be approved by county council and the schools include

feather bed, hawthorne, scotts branch and wellwood international elementary schools as well as parkville middle school. accusations of sexual assault as a problem plaguing the military. the naval academy is now working for a better way to tackle this issue. it's planning to make sexual assault prevention training as part of the normal work day. normally the training is done outside the classroom and now they want to it put it in the daily curriculum. a teen who almost lost his life is now paying it forward and he needs your help. josh wilson and brendan wienhold are holding a blood drive this morning. they were both seriously hurt this past january when a pick- up truck slammed into their car. wilson alone needed 15 units of brood to survive. their blood drive goes from 2:00 until 8:00 tonight at the fallston fire hall along cars mill road. wilson and wienhold hope to meet every emt that helped save their lives.

there are now a lot of options where to live in downtown blor and tours are being given out in office buildings converted into apartment buildings. if you're curious, one is on cathedral street and another on st. paul street. the area is one of the fastest- growing neighborhoods in the city. something new they're doing, tours of newly converted apartments. they look like a pretty ordinary pair of glasses but the eyewear some police officers in our state are wearing are also acting as a third eye. the glasses carry tiny cameras. the camera caught the suspect speeding off into oncoming traffic before crashing into a curb. that driver was chased down and actually had to taiz her. >> it shows these guys are doing exactly ha they were train and how they were train today do it. >> the laurel police department has been using the eyeglass cameras for about four months

and the chief says complaints about his officers are going down. two fishermen in st. mary's county got quite a shock when they pulled their nets up on the potomac river. instead of catching bait, their nets nabbed a huge, in fact two huge bull sharks. they were more than eight feet long, 220 pounds. those sharks were caught just offshore from the point lookout state park. that's a popular spot to swim. bull sharks can thrive in salt and fresh wert and are also known to travel up rivers. hey, lynette. >> yes. >> sharknado. >> i've got nothing after that. satellite and radar picking up on some clouds this morning, but no rain, no thunderstorms. that's definitely some good news. we did have a round that moved through overnight, and back off toward the west we're seeing some showers and thunderstorms popping up across the area around iowa this morning and also nebraska. now, as we go into the afternoon, we will get some more changes in here, the possibility for the scattered showers and storms in effect. so this is what we have outside right now in bel aire, starting to get some daylight a little bit, but we can see plenty of

cloud cover out there. we're getting some breaks in the clouds and that's definitely some good news and some bad news. it's good news because you want the sunshine, we don't need any rain, but it's bad news because that sun is going to add to the instability with the atmosphere with lots of moisture out there. we can see the temperatures right now in glen burnie 73 grass degrees. this is what's going on at the surface for today. we do have that area of high prthe atlantic and when it's out into the atlantic off toward the east like that, you get that return flow. all that does is pump in the heat, the humidity from the gulf of mexico, so we are definitely going to be feeling very humid for today. and and then as we look off back towards west, we will have a cold front that starts to move through the area, especially as we head towards friday. abc 2's most accurate futuretrend goes into motion, picking up on the showers and then possibly the thunderstorms this morning, we'll dry out and get another round possibly as we go into the afternoon. not everybody will get wet for today, and then the dryer

roll through overnight, but now we're dry across maryland, but as you head out the door make sure you do grab the rain gear because you could get under one of those storms and if you do get trapped under one of those storms, you will be dealing with lots of rain and also some gusty winds. so that's what's on tap for today. as we look at the temperature this morning, we're coming in at 70 degrees. you heard megan talk about the humidity, you heard me just say that, you can see it in the dewpoint right there, close to 70. easton's temperature is at 70, so we also do have a little bit of patchy fog to contend with this morning as well in spots. now, arnold will be one of those spots because we have the dewpoint and the temperature the exact same this morning. the dewpoint is in the 70s, you know that we are definitely going to be feeling on the oppressive side during the afternoon. so that pool looking magnificent. make sure you get out there, enjoy that, but keep your eye to the sky with a high temperature coming in at 88 degrees but feeling more like we're in the 90s. let's get a check of the traffic with mike. >>reporter: good morning, lynette, good morning, everybody. we'll take a look on the north side of the beltway. this is right through towson, right up towards 95, lots of green on your screen, so we're looking good this morning.
