just hours ago police released the name. we want to show you a picture of what police believe the car that hit her looks like. it's a mercedes from the mid80s. it'll have damage on the front. if you have any information about the driver police are asking you to call this number. 1-8667 lock up. >> an accident cost a man part of his leg. the 40-year-old was hit by a piece of heavy equipment this morning. it happened on the 2600 block of conway. it partly cut off his right leg. he was taken to the hospital continuing coverage tonight after a third shooting in just the last week. last night a 16-year-old boy was standing on robin dale road

when he was shot in the air. he was found later at a nearby hospital. they are still looking for the shooter but don't believe there is a danger to the community. police are also investigating two shooters from earlier this week in that area. saturday two men standing in front of the shell gas station were shot and monday night a man was shot during a fight on winters lane. police don't believe any of them are connected but anyone with information should call. >> the uva lacrosse player convicted in the death of yardly love has filed an appeal his attorneys say he was denied a fair trial because the judge rushed the case to jurors even when one of his lawyers was sick. he is serving 23 years in prison for murder. yardly love was just 22 when she was killed. >> if you aren't a fan of the hot, humid weather just give it a couple more hours, wyatt in the abc2 most accurate storm center with your changing first

know if the prison will cover the cost but if they refuse he plans to force them. >> now to a sad update in the case of a missing 12-year-old missouri girl we told you first last night at five. adriana horton's family said her family has been found. police haven't confirmed it's her yet. horton was last seen monday at a park near her home where witnesses say she got into a car. police tracked down the car and driver and charged him with kidnapping. tonight we have learned the man bobby born junior used to work for her dad. >> and the woman who lost her arm to a shark has died. she was j -- she fought to stay alive for a week at a local hospital. just four days later a 16-year- old was also attacked in the waters off hawaii. >> we have a greater number of tiger sharks that have been born in conjunction with a larger number of people being

. continuing coverage tonight as kidnapping victim hannah anderson talks about what she went through. >> she has a lot to say. she answer aid few questions online but agreed to a sit down interview after police said that she and the man exchanged more than a dozen calls and texts the day of her kidnapping. emily has more. >> reporter: hannah spoke publicly to nbc for the first time about her kidnapping and

rescue. >> in the beginning i was a victim but now knowing everybody out there is helping me i consider myself a survivor. >> reporter: it was august 4th when she was allegedly kidnapped by family friend james dimaggio. police would later find the bodies of her mother and brother at his burned home. in the interview she respond to questions about why she exchanged text messages with him on the day of the kidnapping. >> they were texts because he was picking me up from cheer camp and he didn't know the address or what -- where i was. i had to tell him the address and tell him that i was going to be in the gym and not in front of the school . >> reporter: she also explained why she had sent him letters. >> the letters, were from like a year ago when me and my mom weren't get getting along. we would talk about how to deal with it and i would tell him how i felt and he would help me through it. they weren't anything bad.

. getting upcoming up to the minute on top stories. this is an 8-year-old recovering at a local hospital after police say he was hit by a car crossing the road just blocks from his home.

his grandmother said he was on his way home from football practice when he was hit. the driver left the scene. police are still looking for that driver. >> a track and cross country coach is dead after being hit by a van last night. patricia cunningham was riding her bike when she was hit. the driver did stay on the scene. the cause the crash appears to be driver error, that's according to police. hasn't been determined if charges will be filed. >> and police are still looking for the driver who hit her but they have now identified the woman whose body was found tuesday as a 20-year- old reported missing the night before. she was hit by a driver in a mercedes from the mid80s who didn't stop. anyone with information about the driver of that car call police right now >> weather wise just a couple of showers, mainly talking kent county south into queen anne,

diploma. >> we have problems with student debt. >> reporter: he kicked off the new school year with a two day, two state bus tour. >> bottom line is higher education cannot be elective. every family should be able to afford it. >> reporter: at the university of buffalo the president laid out a plan for a new system that would tie taxpayer funds to college performance and value. starting into 15 schools will bee valued by average tuition, scholarships and loan debts and earnings of graduates. the president said that colleges thatkeep their tuition down while providing top notch education will see their federal funding go up. >> it's time to stop helping school that are not producing good results and reward schools that deliver for american students and the future. >> reporter: last month congress reachedn 't agreement
